What do you not like about your thirdgen?
how about almost getting into an accident when someone cuts in front of you because you cant honk the horn. the horn contacts suck *** on the 90+ steering wheels. you have to press way too hard and by the time you do its too late.

I'm not a big fan of the dash, they crack. the passenger side has that huge overhanging dash, and no factory clock sucks too! And that damned seat belt loop attatched to the seat! I've broken three of those stupid things and they still let the belt ride too high! Also the hood and hatch shocks blow too, I'll take the springs that were on my El Camino any day!

When I first got it I had to go underneath with a pair of channel locks and do my best to straighten out that pinch weld. It is half of what it was when I first bought it! Cheap $#!t assembly methods!!! Senior Member

Lets see, seems like everyone hates about the same things.
No cup holders
No glove department.....cant fit EVERYTHING in the center console
Heavy doors that sag
Cramped up engine bay, cant even change my spark plugs with headers
Center console vinal coming off sides
Front valance hits every friggin dip in road unless I go .005 miles an hour....
Everything rattles in the car with subs, when u fix one, a new one develops
That is mainly it.....
And we need some LS2's in em...

Let's see... #1 thing I hate the most...
That I traded my 87 Firebird 2.8L auto w/ 69K original miles and 99% mint body (slight surface rust at driver rear wheel well), for an 87 Pathfinder POS that only lasted two months before the trans blew! Sellers Remorse
BTW, this was back in um... early 03? I think, and I've missed her dearly since then. Life hasn't allowed me to get another one yet, but some day I will
EDIT: I was a dumb 19yo kid when I did that, lol

The fact that the puny rear and weak trans dominate these cars. That the engine bays are so small that that with headers I can't change my spark plugs easily and the constant vapor lock associated with the setup. The fact the t-top seals are an arm and a leg to replace just to have water not leaking on you. That everytime I mention my car someone chimes in with the comment "Isn't that a kids car? It's not very professional..." The rattles associated with my car... oh wait that is the motor transmitting those.

The never ending rattles that you can never find
The "White Trash" association
Power hatch Pulldown...retarded idea. 8 out of 10 of them end up slammers in 2 years again anyways.
The lack of any other car buff taking you serious when you take your third gen to a car show
Lack of room in the engine bay on a fully equipped car
the EPA regulations that made GM put poor flowing factory exhaust, EGR systems, cathelitic converters and computerized emission controls.
The center console...I want just a clean looking shifter poking out of the floor.
The Innacuracy of the factory Tach, Temp gauge and Fuel Gauge.
The 7.5 and 7.65" 10 bolt rear...seriously, how hard was it to refit an 8.5" carrier to have coils, trailing arms and a track bar??!?!
T-tops
Air conditioning
Rear Defrost never worked from the factory, why put in as an option?
Where's the Glovebox?
Poor power window design...I prefer crank windows anyways.

Pop up headlights
The LG4...the 117 LSA AKA The "barely bumps them open" peanut cam...no wonder this thing has 150 flywheel Hp....

how u gotta take everything apart to replace one little thing like take the ignition for example u gotta take the whole steering column apart in a ford u take a pin and pull it out with the key in that simple i hate to say it u guys but a ford is a hell of a lot easier to work on than these cars sometimes after doing up my brothers 5.0 i learned the hard way. But i love the way the camaro looks

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
-The lack of a dual exhaust.
-How hard EVERYONE but me slams the doors
-The hood won't pop, no matter what I do - I have to punch it for the latch to release
-The hood and hatch lifters are always going bad
-Trans mounts are WAY too easy to break... Had to wrap a chain around it.
-T-Top drippage...
-If you put speakers/amps in the "trunk" you have nowhere to put the tops but in the backseat
-'85 paint peels off like a sunburn
-The fog lights aren't working right now, and I don't know why
-I just got hit - in my own damn driveway - and need a new fender, bumper, and headlight bezel.
-The ground effects that cover the rocker panel are too hard to find... damn highway blowout

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Not a whole lot.
1. Shitty brakes - woulda never gotten in an accident if I had half way decent brakes. Now [hopefully] fixed with the C5s.
2. Weak unibody - will be fixed soon with SFCs.
3. How most of the people with leather interiors didn't take care of them.
That's all I got for now.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Well I love my car to death but...lets see...
1. I have a slow *** V6 that gets a good fight from a civic.
2. Doors are heavy as **** and sag.
3. Everyone thinks my car is fast but its far from it.
4. No cup holders.
5. Interior rattles.
6. No true dual exhaust.
7. Hatch pull-downs give us trouble.
8. Sh!tty brakes.
9. Sh!tty handling.
10. Yes, weak unibody.
11. "Map pocket" instead of a glove box.
12. The "trailer trash" assumption.
13. Runs hot when cruising (have no grille)...(or airdam)
14. Windows are slow as f*ck
15. PITA to work on
16. Misaligned hatch.
17. Engines underpowered
18. No "cut-aways" for exhaust tips to come out the back bumper.
19. No trunk space.
Thats all I can think of for now...

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
The lack of drip rails. When you get in, water runs off the top onto your leg if you don't close the door quick enough. Cant have the window open even a crack during rain either.
Small factory brakes.
GM's interior design. Cardboard door panels ftw! No glove box. Poor seats. Rattly hatch.
Lousy power windows. My dads 90 1-ton has sweet power windows.
The shitty unibody.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I absolutely hate the extra wipe when turning the windshield wipers off. if you dont do it as they come down they chatter up the windshield and down again..
cant have the window cracked during rain unless u wanna look like u peed your pants.
I cant really complain about my cupholders because i actually have some but... they are great for your 1 liter gatorade bottles , 72 oz. slurpees and double gulps from 7-11, but anything smaller than that flops everywhere.
when you shut your door with a full can of pop in the cup holder, half of it ends up on your floor mat (or feet)
Seems to be a magnet for other people running into it in parking lots.
Horrible stock paint.
PLASTIC T-TOPS!
look like crap with age
no traction in rain.. kinda fun doing dukes of hazzard style powerslides through intersections when you really didnt mean to lol.
None of that stuff is really that big of deal though, and i love my bird. i have no intentions of ever getting rid of it.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I must say i dont really have much that i dont like about my car... its an older car so it will have a few creeks and noises and they all need work... but i have always loved them and i dont see what makes them seem like "white trash" material. thats just me. everyone i kno loves my iroc and the cars like them. i never heard the white trash thing... just the mull-et mobiles. lol overall I LOVE my third gen!
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I can't believe all of the complaints you guys have about these cars. Why do you guys want cup holders so bad? I'll be damned before someone brings a drink into my car!
I love my headliner (although I'm sure it's way cooler than any of yours), I love my paint(same reason as headliner), I even love the hatch pull down! I think it's awesome you just have to let the hatch fall down, and funny as hell when someone thinks it isn't closed and then see it pull itself down. I love all of the after market for these cars, you can get all new suspension in a lightweight tubular design. You can basically bolt up a ls1 with all of the parts available, there's some power for ya.
Alright, I thought of some things I don't like
I don't like how I haven't found any big (like 14 or 15 inch) brakes that anyone makes. I don't like how the cd player opening is only 1.5 din. I want a double din so it would fit a nice touchscreen head unit. I don't like how high the headlights pop up (hopefully they wont go up so high soon). One last thing, I don't like how the floor pan goes up on the passenger side, it made putting a pair of bmw seats in it a bitch!
I don't think I can complain about the extra wipe because...because I don't think I've ever used my windshield wipers

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Hmmmm, there's very little for me to complain about on my GTA. But, I will say, I hate where they put the 3rd brake light, the cup holder is to week. I bought 6 of them, and the Air Bag( but its goin away, soon) other than that, I luv it. Its absolutely the best car I ahve ever had hands down. I do need more leg room, but I am alot older now than when I bought it, but a set of 4th gen man seat brackets will fix that. Other than that, no complaints. Esp on the motor, someone at GM did a good job on this one.
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Oh don't get me wrong, I love my car...and what I love about it makes up for what I don't like, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Yes these cars are old and all these problems just happen with age, and most of them can be fixed, I was just listing what I don't like about it cause thats what this thread is about... Love my thirdgen!!!
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I don't like how my hood nor hatch won't align, the retard that drilled random holes in my center console, my insane wiring harness (with all these special extra wires!), my stock exhaust, oh, and the fact that when I try to swap stuff, it doesn't work.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
On the heavy door thing again:
It will MANGLE you if you close the passenger side door on your finger, the top edge of the door panel bends in right at the window and will try to eat your hand if you're not careful (or slightly buzzed).
Ouch.
And I remembered a few other things:
-2 Speeds for the wipers: ULTRA FAST and LIGHT SPEED, I never use the wipers because it rarely rains hard enough to turn them on. That and I wax the windshield so the water just rolls right off.
-Carbureated motor 'diesels' sometimes, mine was still running 20-25 seconds after I shut it off yesterday
-My driver side door lock is broken so I have to open the passenger side first every time.
-Flip-up headlight motor on the driver side tightens down too much so I have to get it started every time I turn on the lights (But atleast it works for the most part)
-Slower than an old-asian-lady-on-the-highway-with-her-blinker-on-for-15-miles windows

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
i truly, truly love my 3rd gen, i'm on my 4th and loved them all... but they've all had one common problem... overheating problem, i can honestly say i know this cooling system TOO well. I don't know if its just my luck, but i just hate how GM made these fans come on almost at overheating points. Other than that, i just love the way they look.
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
is this "your" car or just third gens in general?
well my car
paint
dent in hood
rims (15")
thirdgens in general
no cup holder (but that makes me think twice when it comes to haveing a cup in there, so it's a good thing)
no real glove box
no rear hatch cover
that damm air dam scrapes on everything, and it just pains me even though its a $20 part.
and thats about it

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
the fact that i wasnt alive to but it new
the fact that parts are so damn hard to find for it
the fact that im to much of a perfectionist and i think mine looks like crap when its beautiful thats my problem though
the fact that gm discontinues every thing in the world for these cars
the fact that every single headliner manufactured cannot fit properly
the fact that most camaros came with blistering fast motors
and they detuned the best looking camaro EVER down to 200 hp plus.
the fact that women buying more camaro,s played into that
the fact that there engine bay wiring is sloppy and cluttered
the fact of those stupid smog tubes
the fact of DID U EVER TRY AND CHANGE THOSE WINDOW SWITCHS

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Some things I dont like about my car is :
- that that there are no swingouts in the roll bar.
- That it only gets 23 MPG on the highway
- I can't get above 1.05 g without going to race tires
- The hood needs to be pinned whenever I'm exceeding 135 MPH
- The brakes generate too much brake dust at the track
- I can't fit an extra set of race tires inside now that I have that roll bar
- It only seats four passengers and I have five in my family
- My wife dont like sitting it it anymore

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
You missed my sarcasm! I'm s.t.r.e.t.c.h.i.n.g to find things I dont like!Other things I don't like about my car:
- I can't get it to hook up in first gear

- Second gear is also a joke unless it's pointed straight
- I've lost 50% of my tire tread in just 4000 miles

- The paint is so shiny that it makes it hard to photograph

- The passenger side sail panel has a scratch on it and it bugs me.
In truth, I would never have kept this car for eighteen years if I hadn't not loved everything about it. ...even the rattles.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I am feelin' the lack of cup holders. Other than that everything else is just a reason to modify. Like one of the biggest gripes 305. I dropped a GM Goodwrench 350 in matching up with the 5 speed!!!! Mui Bueno. Just remember every gripe is a mod waiting to happen!!!!!
