I pay $90 a month for my insurance, it was $425/mo until i turned 19... lame rules these insurance companies go by... and i dont know what the big deal is about 4thgens... the only reason i would trade my 3rd for a 4th is if the 4th was a 2002 SS or 2001 ZL-1, but unless my wildest dreams come true.. that wont happen...

They're much more comfortable, you can actually get a manual transmission with a 350, a 6 speed over a 5 speed, they're faster stock, better gas mileage, airbags and anti lock brakes so insurance is cheaper, better stock sound system, all V8 models got 4 wheel discs. I'd take my 95 Trans Am over my 88 Formula any day. I'd still love to have a third gen camaro though.

Its a shame that this is one of the longest threads I've seen on TGO. At least 99% of the complaints I've heard about third gens can be fixed quite easily.

My complaints:

Finding new replacement parts for commonly damaged items, such as electronics and plastic screws.

Plastic screws, in the first place -- whoever thought that was a good idea should be SHOT.

Idiots who don't know jack about maintenance and who use drywall screws and other household items in their half-assed 'fixes'.

Other than those minor complaints, I love my thirdgen.

I don't see where you guys are coming from. I drove a small light probe GT with a V6 and a 5sp and I was sick of it. I love my Iroc-z. The 305 has more than enough gusto (its the 210 horse version) and the 5 speed is great. It loves to cruise on the highway. It does have a lot of rattles, but I drove volkswagens for awhile and can stand that. These cars are EASY to work on and make fast and CHEAP to fix. Both of my camaros are about 20 years old.

I don't like that I had a full gallon of water on the floor on the drivers side today. I literally had to shouffle the water outa there to be able to drive it. I'm getting a snorkel, just in case.

It's sad, cause the car is so great minus it's shortcomings that we all experience.

How my kick panel's srew holes are stripped out so they fall on your feet at random times. Rust, leaky T-tops, squeaks, center council sides, trying to get a shifter boot and shifter ****. Hatch wont line up and the brand new hatch motor doesnt pop itslef. Dinky rear ends and T-5's. The headliner came down so I ripped it out a year ago and havnt replaced it. I think it looks kind of good with the T-Tops. The lost ash tray spring, center council light barally works. Blower motor sucked so I have an A/C delete and didnt hook my heater hose back up. The fact that I bought a thirdgen that wasnt taken care off. Window's rattle when down. The visor bushings that get bad. Steering column gets loose. The hood binds when trying to open it. The fact that all the panels and everything not engine related in my entire engine compartment is undercoted. The floormat that slides forward and gets stuck on the clutch pedal.
Has anyone else noticed that every, every thirdgen has wiring problems in one way or onother. My foglights have burnt up twice. A 89 TA dimmer switch shorted and burned all the wires in the dash. 87 GTA wires shorted in the Digital Dash fixed then the mileage stopped short there after, also the cooling fans didnt work. 89 GTA cooling fans never worked. 86 TA cooling fans dont work along with a lot other wiring problems. Thats all the cars in the area that I can think of and they all have wiring problems.
But after all these problems I would never ever sell my car, I love her to death.

i own an 88 camaro its great just bought it for $500 and it was garage kept i think only seen like 4 winters. but i dont like how on all camaros the dash cracks and chips off on the drivers side corner. and i dont really like the seats with the high dash i like more of the mustang dash but really need to get some bucket seats for my camaro cause taking turns at 55 dont really keep you in the seat. umm.. dont have heater core, no a/c different engine, trans, rear gears and suspension. i heard about those t5's and th700r4s and that they really suck so im glad i have a turbo350 very strong. i owned an 88 firebird before i bought this camaro and that thing was a p.o.s. prolly because it sat outside with a broken window and smashed door for about 2 years lol but when i got a new door the windows sealed and so did the t-top no leaks. my friends 91 rs leaks bad though on the drivers side and the motor is going out too so when ever he rolls the window down he has to put a bag there if it rains it takes like 2 days to get the window up lol

What do I not like about my thirdgen... Well let's see.

1. It's not an import...well no, I really kinda like that
2. It's not what you might think of as a preppy mobile... well I like that too.
3. That trailor park trash thing... I don't care about that, I own a house and the only trash around my camaro is the trash someone else put in it and I ripped out.

So I guess I really can't add much to this post, other than even with all the problems we seem to have with our cars, how many would trade for a Mitzubishi, or say a BMW or any of those other imports... well maybe a few but not many I'm sure. And certainly not me.

Heck I'm still havin way to much fun workin on mine.

The thread doesn't die because we all like to complain about what we don't like. I don't like alot about my thirdgen now, solution; replace the bad with the good till there is nothing to complain about. I am kind of getting tired of seeing this thread coming back from the dead over and over, lol.

I don't approve of that Nixon. It's not like when I started this thread I expected it to get this big, I just wanted to hear some people agree with me on some common problems.

I have been guilty of posting on this thread once or twice too... but overall, I don't know why we all complain so much about our cars... first of all... some of our cars are approaching 20 years old. Things wear out, crack, break, etc... Get over it. If you want a car that looks like new and is in perfect condition, sell your car and buy a new one. If you buy a 3rd gen and complain about a stiff ride or little storage space, get over it... its a sports car... if you want a lot of storage space and lots of room for 4 passengers, buy a 4 door Buick.

All vehicles have their flaws. I thought we were supposed to all be 3rd gen fans here? We complain a lot about our cars... and yet most (or hopefully all) of us love our cars... so why not stop complaining so much about them.

Sorry about my little rant... just had to get it off my chest!

Lol you don't even have a thirdgen anymore so you definately have nothing to complain about other than not having one.

-the fact that I have to do like 2 MPH at school over the speedbumps
-no proper glovebox
-no cupholders
-small trunk

But I'm willing to go slow over the speedbumps, The console fits any of my stuff that I bring, I have a cupholder clipped to the vent, and it's not like I would put anything in my trunk even if I could...

Hate it when my wife gets in the car, slams the door and makes a crack about the window rattling. Is there a fix for that? Can't imagine it did this when new.

That should be a kit topdown solutions should carry, they have all kinds of small kits to fix specific problem areas without cluttering up the online shop with all kind of stupid items, like JC Whitney.

I don't think they have such a kit though, but I remember I read on this board about it some time ago, maybe it was a howto, don't remember, but it covered "rattle" fixes all over the car.

If I remember correctly, there was small pieces of polystyrene who are glued on that falls off, or breaks. And there are rubber bushings too. It has been like this on any old car I've had though, don't seem to be a specific thirdgen problem.

The Manual convertible top

Squeaks and rattles on the t-tops, plus the leaks

The cheap *** interior

Easier to steal

Bump

Hmm, what I hate:
- NO GLOVEBOX! I have to use the rear hatch lockbox which is a pain.
- stock 15" wheels...lame.
- CAN'T HEAR THE TURN SIGNALS!! Why has nobody else mentioned this? I always leave those things on without realizing
- the 305...come on, 170 horses for a 5 liter, they could have done better than that. GM had motors out at the time that were far more efficient. at least it has 255 TQ.
- the nose...sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. It looks weird when I park, because it's like, car, car, car, NOSE...
- the dash. I don't mind the seats, or even the center console, but the dash is just strange.

But would I trade it for anything? HELL NO!! Well, maybe a few things, like another higher-horsepower thirdgen, but I love thirdgens. A little outdated, and a little unrefined, but it's simple (no automatic traction control or beeping computer doo-dads or strange things to deal with), cheap to maintain, and so much fun to drive, plus I get many compliments on it. I dress and groom myself well, so no red neck comments.

I don't have leaky t-tops, faded paint, rattles (yep no rattles! I had one a week ago, which was the spare tire wing nut coming loose...), or a torn up interior, gotta love 59K miles all garaged.

Wow, huge sigh of relief here. Here I am thinking I'm the only one with these problems. This post has made me crack up. It's so funny to me that we all share these same annoying little problems. No matter the amount of performance it seems these cars just have their little quirks. I second everything I've seen on here. Creaks, squeaks, brakes or lack thereof...Oh and the piece of crap headliner, huge blind spot, ridiculous weight, clanky windows when they're down, slow @** power windows, power locks that I wonder if they ever worked, broken pieces of plastic that seem to just keep appearing, crappy interior...pain in the @** hatch that squeaks all the time...doors that don't line up...suspension that leaves sooooooooo much to be desired....the list really does go on. I am relieved I'm not the only one with these pains. But I almost think that these are the things that make me love my car so much. It's cost more than it should and I put up with WAY to much than I should have to, but yet I just love the car and I've learned a TON from it. We all do. Whether it's how inconvenient the fuel pump is to change, or why everything just has to not fit or is five different sizes... We love 'em so we put up with the junk. I think the enjoyment we get from driving is enough to warrant the annoyances. Oh yes....and cupholders, glovebox?, console, lighting?!, freaking nose!, hump in the floor on passenger side, obliterated markings on almost everything, cracks galore on the dash, bouncy speedo at low speeds.......everything everyone mention...except T-Tops..not having them sucks...dealing with the leaks sucks even more. But for it being 16 years old, I am damn proud of my tank. It has held in there. Just gotta keep givin' it the love I guess.

Oh and one more last thing for real.....305 TBI? Why...please...I'm almost ashamed to have it. But it's a Camaro....so that's only an ALMOST.....

Car: too many ...
I think we should all keep in mind that our cars are between 13 and 23 years old, and majority of them have over 100k miles. I'd love it if nothing in our cars ever broke, got loose, or faded. But its just not gonna happen, thats an unrealistic expectation. These things happen over time, especially if the cars are not properly maintained or they are driven hard. I have experienced alot of the same issues in this thread, but they can all be fixed, and they can all be solved. Just gotta put in some work and imagination ....

I can honestly say there is nothing I dislike about our cars. Easy to work on, cheap, huge aftermarket, good times.

negative things about 3rd gens

1. the lack of selection of nice rims that fit our cars!!!!!!!
2. no glove box
3. the ridicule for owning a 305, but its better than a v-6 or 4 cylinder
4. the factory paint sucks
5. the color of the gauges at night
6. no SS for thirdgens
7. not enough 5-speed cars
8. the air conditioning is less than perfect.
9. that damn hump on the passenger floor
10. its a huge project to change that fuel pump
11. ive owned 2 thirdgen camaros and the factory tach never has worked
12. weather stripping, need i say more?
But i do love my baby, and shes old, but she still turns heads!
