What do you not like about your thirdgen?
dont get me wrong, i love my car, the only thing id trade it for is a 68 SS or an 02 SS, if you dont count the vettes and all the exotics that i want
its good to have this list though cause it makes you think about ways to improve your car and what you need to fix on it. my feeling on the 305 is that it has a lot of potential for power, yet still being a daily driver w/decent gas milage. if i were to get a 350 and beef it up id be getting like 7 mpg. and im keeping my tbi cause its easier to put NO2 on it
oh btw there are cupholders for 3rd gens, they came on 90-92 birds and they mount right under the armrests and have a place for about a 44oz cup and place for maps etc call your local dealer to see if you can order a pair.

yea.. the torx bolts are pain... not to mention the torx bits i have are all mixed up at the bottom of my tool box... the cup holders dont bother me cause of one reason.. no one eats, drinks, smokes, talks loud in my car. the only food alowed in the car is white castle. its cause i can pound about 4 of them back in about 2 mins... for thoes who dont have White Castles.. that sux for you... anyway... harsh ride is cause of the suspension... most sports cars are very stiff.. thats just from design. i see 3rd gens that are beat up and rusting... it makes me want to buy them.. but then ill see a nice one and it will make me feel good, and how i cant wait to get home and start up my baby.... man i hate havin the car down... oh well this summer... gas prices better be down, and the cops better not be out cause i wana do some cruzin.

gas prices blow goats!!! i live smack dab in the middle of the san joaquin valley and NOWHERE is there gas under 2.05 per gallon and the 2.05 is for the 87 octane. 91 goes for about 2.20 per gallon. i used to go to school at UCSD and its no wonder the gas is so high down in la jolla, its a town full of filthy rich filthy old people that have houses as big as my block. so i say let them pay 3.00 a gallon and get us back to .91 per gallon like it was last summer. hip hip hurray!!!

Actually the 2.30 was here in carlsbad. Didnt look while we were down in lajolla. Did look at all the pinoch walking aroudn though, hmmmmm tasty!
let me just say one thing.....2.8. if it wasnt for the 4 speed,i would have driven it off a cliff, even though it was GIVEN to me. there are hundreds of things... like the ritual 4 beats on the door panel to get the power windows to work...

$3.09 is INSANE. Jesus. I pay around $1.80-$1.85 for premium. Curse the day I got a V8 and decided to run extra timing.

yea i know about the oil companies.. i just wana do that... Nick, CANT A MAN DREAM! anyway.. another i thing i dont like about my car is that i cant get a ramp under it... some peple have this problem too, some dont.. but i do... i bought the lowest ramps, the rhino ramps, and i still need about an inch clearence for the front air dam....
yea, that stupid y-pipe... and that brings me to another thing... whats with the no dual exhaust? people have done it to there cars here... look at Willie's set up.. its nice and clean... they couldnt of done that? everyone thinks that my car is a 6 when i tell them the exhaust set up.. there like.. put on dual exhaust from flowmaster? i say to them its the same thing, only with a better muffler...

Ground clearance. i can imagien how bod it woudl be , hell i beat the hell out of thos edual 2.5" cats in the picture, let alone 2 sets of pieps and mufflers all the way back.
Al, u need to do your homework dude. We only get roughly 10% of our oil from the middle east. The whoel raise price deal is form the companys who are playign on the fear/ uneducation of the public.
ANother word after we bomb Iraq gas should go down. "Fear" is just something they say to get more money in their already bulging pockets. The goverment should take over the oil fields because then they would have to deal with votes and votes would keep gas prices pretty low. This is my fix for it.
this all goes back to my bomb idea... its startin to sound really good huh? anyway... another thing i hate is roller cams... there so much more expensive then a regular cam... and not to mention, the other parts that have to be built for roller cams... thank *** i can reuse the lifters...

really the only problems I have with my car is that it's 20 yrs old, I just wish it was new, I have no complaints about power, I can toast most non f-body cars with 350's. but I do have a few complaints.
no place to mount the front license plate on firebirds that doesn't look crappy.
horrible van nuys paint jobs.
wussy stock rear tire size, and rims aren't wide enough.
lack of extra bracing for the hood latch on 82-84 birds that causes the metal to rip and the hood to not align properly.
stupid previous owners that didn't know what wax is or that you need to put it on your car.
and my air dam hits everything! but I would never get rid of it, cuz it makes driving at 100, like driving 50.
I love my car!!!

Are you referring to the lower piece of the car, that ground fx piece? My camaro, I didn't hit the ground fx lip too much..but the actual air dam, the big plastic fin under the car, hit EVERYTHING. I hated it. It scraped everything and made the car unstable on the highway. BUT I left it on because it lowered my cruising engine temp by about 20-40 degrees....

My Firebird came with that hideous orange black and gold decal which didn't even match the colors of my car. When I removed it 2 years ago, I then realized why GM put it on in the first place - because they painted the lower body color crooked. The lower body color on the bumpers doesn't match up well with the rest of the car. I hate the 2 color scheme, especially when one of those colors are gold.

I wasn't calling you stupid dude! I'm just not familiar with the firebird air dam designs. Yours goes all the way across then? Mine's just a stubby thing sticking down..no aerodynamics. The point of it is to catch air and push it up to the radiator right?? Which means upward air motion, right? Which SHOULD equal up-force on the front end! I'm no handling scientist and I'm aware about the use of front spoilers, etc. to create downforce, so I can't say for sure that this thing acrually DOES create instability....but what I CAN say for sure is, my air dam has NO aerodynamic qualities whatsoever. At 80-85 mph the car feels like a pickup with the tailgate left up. I know this for a fact as well. Removed the air dam for a week...car cruised along just fine on the highway..quite effortlessly...but got too hot at city speeds so I reattached it and put up with it since I didn't highway it much.
Take a pill, man.

Hmm what i dont like:
more 1LEs, some of u guys love ur ac and t tops, but me i want bare bones!
gm coulda given us a higher redline like 6k
to many engine options 2.8L 5.0 5.0 5.7
shoulda been like this
3.8L
5.7L TPI
Ummm can we say 5spd option for 5.7s?
2.77/2.73s JUNK
9 bolts in all of these cars
dual exhaust would be nice
better gauges, look cheesy
never a t top option, gm shoulda followed ford and dumped those damn things
length of the car coulda been a tick shorter
less options, has anyone else realized how many *** damn combinations of our cars are out there and as soon as u think u know what option got what option u see a car has as some weird *** combination of em all?
i really like these cars though, think about how old they are and the abuse theyve gone through, i think most of em have held up pretty well
before anyone complains about a weak unibody we have it made compared to mustangs!!
i know the 88 and prior rear discs sucked, but my 89 even when it had drums stopped pretty good, now with the pbrs in the back it stops even better
not to many squeaks or rattles in mine, hatch does a little cause the rubber stopper is missing
oh yes the infamous hood and hatch shocks, there coulda been a better alternative atleast for the hood eh?

I don't see how you can call a 2.77 "junk." It is just a kind of gear, best for the highway, very streetable. Not everyone needs 3.42/3.45s or even 3.73s, however upgrading my 2.77s to 3.45s would be very nice. Oh, BTW, the borg-warner 9 bolt is a very strong rear end. -89IRO

Yeah, you could have just about any combination of almost what ever you wanted. Its like one thirdgen has power windows and no power door locks and another thirdgen has power door locks, but manual windows.
Power door locks should have just been standard with power windows.

the disks on my 84 work awesome.
I wouldn't change anything on my car from stock besides the engine, i mean it has *****, but not enough for me, I mean I can toast alot of 350's because most of the older chevy's where alot heavier, but I want more power, I don't just wanna be able to beat up on stock 350's. I love the ground effects on my 84 way more then on the newer birds. and the front bumper especially. I do have some issues with the tranny right now, I don't know if it is going to hold after I do my 305 buildup, but I guess I'll see what it's like when I rebuild my tranny, if it sucks, I guess I'll just get a t56. I also really like the construction of the front gfx on the 84's underneath the nose it's alot more solid, and the air dam they have is way better than the later models, it's alot less cheap looking. and hasn't broken yet, well except the mountings for the airdam, since it catches on everything. the interior is great, I don't have to worry about the console falling apart since it's an 84, well except the glovebox lid. and I really like the guages. I hated them and the dash and console at first but they really start to grow on you after awhile especially since they are a bit more solidly constructed then the later ones.

If GM actually did all of the things people are complaining about on here the cars would cost twice as much. These cars are not made by Rolls Royce, everything is not top of the range. You get what you pay for people and if you don't like it buy something else.
GM cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time, so they have a wide and varied selection of options to try and satisfy most of the poeple some of the time.

i say this is good. it what makes people wana better there car. Sometimes certain things are more annoying to one person then another. Personaly, i LOVE ttops... i dont like verts that much, and ttops is a great way to have a little of both hard and no top cars... i never had a problem with the interior of our cars.. i love the guages and the styling.. I would like to have 4th gen seats so that i could be more comfortable, but i like the interior... i like interior noises... iit jus showes you that your car isnt a RR or a Bentley... its a sports car built for the masses... and *** i want more! i wish i had more money to buy more cause i just loves these cars! I hope that they do make a 5th gen. It will be the best out of all the gens and even that car will have little things that people dont like. i say keep this open and lets enjoy what we have to say about the cars.

I hate the drivers seat how it rips in the side in every thirdgen like mine from getting in and out. How the damn nose scrapes all the time even after i get it painted i cant drive a mile with out it getting scraped or cracked. How the heater core turns into a 12 hour project . And how the car still bottoms out even after new shocks and springs.

Friend of mine has an 84 T/A with the WS6 package, but it's an auto....has the L69 though. Nice motor. Dunno how quick it is, but with the mods he has, it'll toast most of the cars in the city. I'm still waiting to run him. We bet $20.
I hate:
Unibody Construction
Rattles and sqeaks.
Lack of sfc's stock.
Crappy stock brakes.
Restrictive intake system.
Non-aluminum heads.
The cars are way too heavy.
Stock 700-R4 isn't strong enough.
Horrible van nuys paint finish.
Lack of ground clearance at the Y-pipe.
et cetera......
Though, I still truly believe this is one of the best cars ever built, love the handling and absolutely love the bangs per buck factor. So responsive to mods also.

what do I not like......
my car:
the "fixing" the previous owners did
the fading Bright Red paint
automatic
the crap 624 heads on the engine I managed to get my hands on after the LG4 blew
no SFCs
no strut tower brace
no wonderbar
not an '89 TTA (or GTA)
15 year old wiring
mildew smell in the carpet from leaking weather seals/not closing the windows all the way
sagging crap GM headliner
center console vinyl sides bursting due to the foam used for filling
red seats in a medium dark gray interior
not fast enough (yet)
"yep, maw, it's a fixer-upper"
:sillylol:
thirdgens in general:
unibody
huge blind spot a'la the B-pillar
heavy doors
heavy overall
too-weak hinges for the heavy doors
GM's "the Corvette MUST be the best car we produce"
emissions
cheesy TV ads
note: all gens of f-bodys have been "white trash" cars......10 years ago or so it was 2nd gens
Mustangs are actually in close to the same boat, if you think about it

I'm not sure yet, but I think this sucks ***....
I miss my Cherry 1986 White IROC. It got stolen seven years ago. Worst day of my life.
One thing I dislike about 3rd Gens is the weak frame. It sucks *** when you have to spend money, honey- like on subframe connectors, traction bars, etc.
But I also love most other things about Camaros (and of course Firebirds, T/A's, etc).

heres what i dont like about my car
1. the crappy dent repair the previous owner did on the passanger door..not to noticable but it bothers me
2. the air dam scrapes when ever i go over speed bumps
3. LEAKING DRIVERS SIDE T TOPS (looks like i wet my pants whenever exiting the car after it rains).
