tint...

i have a couple questions about tint...
1. if i get 5% tint on my back window will it be easier or harder to see mudges on the glass in the sun......because i can usually see them quite well in the sun on my non tinted glass
2. i dont know if anyone else has this but in the sun at certain angles u can see like a haze or blotches all over the back window....if i get 5% will i not be able to see these anymore?

thanks....for the back window im going 5% but for the side windows in jersey there is suppose to be none......i dont know if i can live with that.....can u guys post pics of ur tint that is not too dark?

I don't notice smudges and stuff on the back window, but I always keep my windows clean.

I don't have blotches either, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about waterspots?

In Illinois, the back can be as dark as desired, but the sides aren't supposed to have any tint at all. I went to the shop and when I was leaving, they told me "You know you're gonna get stopped a lot?"

That was in July, so far no one has said a thing. I have 20% on the sides, BTW. Heres the only pic I have, its pretty crappy.

Here are some options:
1. replace the glass with either used or new.

2. Take some steel wool and foam glass cleaner and clean your glass real good on the outside. On the inside use only the cleaner and a towel so as not to damage the defroster.

3. Tinting the glass will not remove or hide inperfections in your glass.

4. It will be hard to notice 20% tint. since you are not suspose to have any tint in N.J. you might as well get like 10 or 15% tint since the ticke t will be the same if you have 20%. Most cops don't ticket for tint alone, you have to be doing something else and the "tint" ticket is a add on ticket. You can beat it with a reciept in court.

hey bub.

Back when i was working every day of the week, I had a place called Autowerks Inc. come and pick up my car for tinting while I was at work. About three hours later, my car pulls up and I go out to see the new tint.... except.. there was no tint.

I asked the guy what the heck was going on and he told me that they just couldn't do it. I asked why, and he said that they tried, and got some on there, but it didn't work because the shape was too difficult. I had to try my hardest not to burst out laughing at him for his incompetence and at me for not seeing how incapable these people really are.

Anyways, I parked my car and looked at the back window, and there was this.. haze.. over the whole thing. Whatever it is they used to try and tint it (prolly gluesticks, knowing these geniuses) had left a residue. So that night when i got home, i went over the back window for about 10 minutes with some glass cleaner and a cotton cloth, and it all came off. It didn't show up on the cloth, but it wasn't on the window anymore.

So maybe on your car, the previous owner took off some tinting and left a residue? i dunno, just a thought.

Car: too many ...
I know it sounds funny, but I've encountered the same situation as theSteve. Tinting a 3rd gen is not an easy task. The way the rear hatch is shaped makes it very difficult to apply the tint (when compared to average car windows). There are only two shops I know of in Hawaii that can tint my cars. And only one of those two will do illegal tint ... so I pretty much have one choice. He's tinted my 3rd gens (past and present) a total of 4 times (5 if you count my truck). Other shops will tell me straight up they cant do it.

As far as the blotches on your window I was going to say the same thing theSteve said. Sometimes when people remove tint they leave this filmy substance on the inside that distorts the view threough the rear hatch glass. You need to use elbow grease and a glass cleaner to get it off.

My 90 rs was at one point tinted. I did the hatch and side windows at 5% black. The windshield was 50% titanium. The reason I use 50% titanium on the windshield is because it creates the illusion of sun glare. People cant see you but it dosnt look like tint. Police think its sun glare. It is illegal to tint the front windshield in Hawaii but most of my cars and trucks have had illegal tint anyway. When I finish the interior on my 91 z, I plan to do the hatch and side windows double 5% (comes out to 2%) and the windshield 50% titanium again. Keeps the car alot cooler on the inside. The 90 rs will remain untinted as it will be a 'track only' car and I want to show everyone my rollcage madness (joke!).

no i still dont have the windows tinted. you'd think i would, considering ALL the money i've put into my car, and the LITTLE amount it costs to have tinting done... but nope.

it has been on the top of my list for quite some time now, but i'm putting it off right now, cuz i think my girlfriend wants to have it done for me for X-Mas.
