shaving the antenna

i am trying to decide if i should leave the antenna or not. has anyone done this with any luck? Can you buy a different antenna that you can hide some place? and if so do they get good reception? any pics of cars with shaved antenna would be awesome

I'm, not sure where to find one, but a friend of mine has an antenna that is just a VERY fine wire on the inside of his windshield his recpetion is great and the wire is barely noticeable.

i have been toying with the idea of shaving the antenna, some company makes an antenna that would lay in the the dash pad, the area where air blows, you really couldnt see it and you would still get reception, i forgot if it was is paddock or , now that i think about it , it is in the jc whitney catalog.

radio shack use to cary the antenna in the stores....don't know if they even carry the antenna anymore. definately not in the stores by me as i've tried to find extras since they are so cheap.

i have a dakota digital that sells for 70 that is powered and works well if you can find the premium location. i however cannot so that's why i have it up for sale for 30 just to get rid of it.

as far as a car with one............look no further. you ask and you shall recieve. just look closely.

i'll try this one last one....one thing to remember is that you may get lucky and recieve perfect reception. i doubt it though. i've never had good reception for all my stations.

a nice mod that no one ever notices; give a custom feel to the car without anything gaudy. that along with the dozen other body mods that are done on the car that no one ever notices. i don't do it for recognition though. i say go for it unless you have to have perfect radio just in case you don't get it.

that isn't bad if they do it right!

it isn't so much that the work is hard but if they don't do it right you'll know.

i've had mine done for almost 4 years now and no problems!!

although i had a piece of metal welded in and only used the smallest amount of metal filler. looks great i think!

honestly i think using the stock antenna is the best route.

i just cut the bracket off that mounts the antenna to the fender so it was nice and short and hid it up under the dash....it also woked inside the long center console!

no money invested and your using stock hardware! works the same as all the above.

the best ones out there are the powered antennas like dakota digitals...however they are expensive and you have to get them just right.

I've shaved mine as well, although I let the body shop do it when they were painting the car.

It's one of those things where when gone you don't really notice any difference, but when the antenna is there, everyone says get rid of that thing or cut it down.

I'm going to be shaving mine as well...dosen't look really all that hard to do....I'm just going to weld a small plate to cover the hole....and use a couple body fillers....should work good.

why dont you just throw in a power antenna?? thats what i did. you can even put it on a switch if you want to. or if your cd player doesnt support a power antenna then you can put it on a switch.

Cause Shaving is custom.....and I hate the big Black thing that surrounds the antenna itself....

i thought about a power antenna, but i just dont want any type of antenna on the fenders. Even though my cd player supports a power antenna, i would put it on a switch, and i dont want to have to mess around and push a switch every time i want to listen to the radio.

I am just to damn picky:lala: :lala:

I found this on eBay and thought I'd link it here in case any of you are still looking for an antenna to use after shaving the one off the fender.

I never listen to the radio so I have no need for the antenna. I'll have my fender shaved. I would do it. I can barely see the antenna or even notice most of the time. The clean look of the fender is more important to me than having the antenna which I have only used 3 times since I had my car, so I would shave that antenna if I were you.

thanks man:hail:

that looks like a pretty good deal....i wonder if it could go on the back window?

i might have a deal on a used electronic antenna, but the guy miss placed it, and he has been really busy getting his car finished....i dont even really know how the used one mounts actually. i took a chance with finding an antenna and already shaved it

honestly just save your money.

do what i did and you'll get better reception.

take your mount....the shaft and all and cut the metal bracket off so that it's the normal antenna with the standard wire that runs to the back of the radio.

now just find a hole up in the dash keeping the antenna as close to metal as possible. i actually had to cut 1/4 of it off to fit it. works alot better than anything else i've tried on the market and it's free since you already have all the parts.

good luck

I know of a way to have the best of both worlds. My friend bought me an antenna for my birthday that hides underneath the metal and uses the OEM wires and is easy to mount. I don't know how it works, but it does. It is called the WonderWand antenna. I will ask him where he got it when I have a chance, but is supposedly gives better quality than the OEM antenna as well.

i've tried just about everything on the market from the 80 dollar dakota digital untenna to the 4.99 radio shack.

all of them can be made to work but none of them work like the stock piece. for function and price you can't beat it.

good luck.
