Removing the gauge panel, 1 simple question!

Hey all

heres my question:

In my haynes book it says to remove the stearing wheel for easier access to the gauge panels, should I do this? or can I just avoid that step, another question, after loosening all the bolts from the panel how do I dissconnect the speedo cable?
I dont want to snap it or anything!
And after I install the white gauges, is everything going to be set back to normal?

I bought some double sided tape tonight and im ready to do it, but I dont want to screw anything up!!!

dont take off your steering wheel it isnt necessesary.

just make it go all the way down take everything out. there is a small retaining clip on the back of the cluster/speedo push down on it and the cable should come right off. send me an e-mail if you need any help reguarding it. make sure you know where your needles are set to before you take them off!

There's two nuts holding the steering column up. I usually just spin the nuts all the way down to the end of the studs. That gives enough room to work in there, plus doesn't let the column hang down unsupported and makes it easy to tighten back up (don't have to hold it up in place while you're threading nuts).

I'm with the guys, simply drop the column a bit and forget about the steering wheel (though you can jockey the wheel around a bit with the tilt function, which might be helpful). I also covered the column in front of the cluster with masking tape so as to not scuff it up. Also, I had good luck with a long, flat-bladded screw driver in popping off the speedo retaining clip.

Will the speedo itself need recalibration to show the correct speed if the needle is removed?

sorta...

its hard to determne there. once you have the needle back on what i did was i started the acr and drove for a bit with the bezel off. then when i noticed where the needle was while i was at a red light i put my figers behind the speedo on the round black thing that turns and held it in place while i moved the speedo to where it should be (0). i have pics at home i can post im at college now.

well guys
im ****ing pissed off...

I also had a HAynes manual on how to remove the gauges and such, I did EVERYTHING you guys said to do, except for removing the stearing wheel or steering column, but thats not the point, I got to the part where I pulled it out a bit, I couldent ****ing reach the speedo cable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and I ****ed around with it a bit more
squeezed my hand in there (got SO Many ****ing cuts)
and the ****ING speedo wont come off, simply WONT COME THE **** OFF, so I decide to do it the other way, remove the plastic take the gauges out one by one and do the conversion of the white gauges, I take the speedo needle off very carefully with a fork, and oH ****, yep u ****ing guessed it, it ****ing broke.. so I said **** this, im leaving this ****..
and thats the end of it, I replaced my lights in the dash
wooT!

yeah u know the spring that makes the big needle go up, well that still works, but u know the very little plastic peice that goes into that spring got stuck inside the spring of the speedo, so the needle it self is fine, but its the fine tip where it connects that broke off.

Thats exactly how i fubard my 110 speedo. it was alright though i used it as an excuse to get a 145.

for future refference its best to get a long *** scredriver and push towards the cluster on the clip that holds the cable in place it should pop right off. id post my pic of it again but you saw that other post i assume.
