Hows your F-body managing in Winter?
Luckily we have a 2 car attached garage, and my GTA hasnt gone through the aweful roads out there. Ive tooked the car out 3 times since Winter starting, just to get it moving and running. Of course i made sure it was a nice day, and the roads were dry, free from as much salt as possible. Plus i also just let my car run on day till it hit operating temperatures cause weather was not good outside. Other than that, everything is good, and im looking foward to spring!
Too bad though i didnt get to do any mods so far, as money wasnt available as much as i thought. School, payments, and now a damn dentist bill to get my teeth fixed which is gonna cost me a few grand, but its gonna be a monthly plan. Should of taken care of that when i was younger!
Anyways, how are your rides doing over the Winter?

well today i had it out when it was blizzarding (got like 4"). I managed to loose my steering and hit a curb and scratched the sh*t out of my rim. Luckily i didnt bend it, just marred and scratched.

well since it is my first i can compare to anything so here it goes.....
1. my engine coolant tank hose keeps shrinking and leaks tons of coolant
2. my cupholder epoxy came undone
3. too cold to wash car so new paint is dirty
i think that is it for now

Well, if you're thirdgen is your daily driver like mine is, and you live somewhere where it snows alot like here in Northeastern Pennsyltucky, then you're in for more of a treat than Richard Simmons was when he started wearing those sequenced hot pink "workout" outfits.
Anyway, I've had to manage with my Trans Am day in, day out. My apartment is on a very steep hill....when it snows even just an inch, I cannot make it up the hill...I have to park it at the shopping center at the bottom and walk....and if i'm already in my parking lot, that too is on an incline, and usually, I cant get out. I just put two new tires on the rear too. The best story of this winter for me was comming back from Christmas break, visiting my parents in NJ. On rt. 380 in the poconos, it was flurrying pretty good, but the roads were fine....I was in the left lane doing 70mph in a 65, becasue everyone was going too slow. Suddenly, the wind kicked up a cloud of snow and i couldnt see for a split second. There was a truck on my right that i had just passed, but he was still there near me....when the snow cleared, in front of me all of a sudden, was an 18 wheeler jackknifed into the median....he also pushed about 5 inches of snow out into my lane....no time to react....i couldtn even slow down....i swevered to avoid running into the back of the trailer, went through the snow at 70mph cutting off that truck in the right lane....he was fine....I though I was going to die. Once my car hit that snow that was spread out, i went almost 90 degrees to my left, and then when i tried to save it, 180 degrees to my right....this happened back and forth a few times before i got out of it............but thats the irony of the whole thing i guess....I got out of it....I dont think i was supposed to make it through that mess...I seriously thought i was going to end up on my roof, or as a new home for a family of squirrels in a tree somewhere. But I steered out of it(Lord knows how), and kept on going. So there. I had to share that story with everyone
Hope no one had anything like that happen to them this winter. I think by the end of the summer, I'm going to buy something that has 4 wheel drive and a big lift on it

My heater core took a **** today.
Up till today I was doing awesome. First winter the car started first crank after sitting outside in sub freezing temps for a week or so. And as my daily driver it took everything great, not counting a few inches of snow. Its not the cars fault, Im just a crappy driver in snow without 4wd.

my camaro didnt' fair too well in this winter. I was home from school for a month for mid semester break. halfway through my break i was heading home early from a friends house because the roads were getting real bad. I was about a block away from my house and there was a left bend in the road, as i was making the turn i had to tap the brakes a tad cuz i felt like iwas going too fast. the brakes locked up, and i skidded right into the curb at around 15 mph. was too afraid to look, but i got out, checked everything and it looked like just a little curb rash. As i proceeded to limp the car back home i realized that something had been messed up. checked it out in the next couple days and found out that i had bent a spindle and messed up the steering box
Hey GTAtransAM
Got any pics of your bird sleeping? My GTA is slumbering under car covers in my driveway.Having no garage sucks! espacially when i know i could spend sum quality time with my baby, doing all the little projects i have in mind

50lb back of sand and 30lbs worth of tools in the back well with some decent all season sumitomo htr...'s on the 16 irocs and she does pretty well in the snow. Is a real bitch in the rain though. I don't know why its so bad in the rain and not so bad in the snow, but it is. That cast iron block doesn't like the cold though, takes forever to warm up with some of the 0 and below F temps we have had lately around her. Pretty decent though.

New snow tires!!!
We had three more inches last night along with 40 MPH winds. Drifting everywhere by the time I got off of work yesterday. I had Cooper M+S 245/50/16's on it, but that wasn't near enough. A week ago I had ordered 205/75/15 Perelli snow tires (closeout from Tirerack.com at $42 each IIRC) that I put on black steel 15x7 Chevy rims from a salvage yard for $15 each, then picked them up just last night from getting them mounted ($10 each tire mounted and balanced). The difference was night and day. Before I was sliding all over the place, even with 390 pounds of sand tubes in the rear. When I got home with the new tires on, I drove through a 3 foot drift in my driveway... without ramming my way through, or taking multiple shots at it. Nice slow pace and it never skipped a beat.
This morning was great! I passed 4 stuck cars going up a hill, where they were sitting and spinning. Snow tires rule!!!

I love my car with the winter..it gets run once a week, and it just sits in my garage under a car cover. Starts perfect every time. Nuttin like a lil Stabil and K100 on the gas tank. My car has always been stored, even by the previous owners, and it shows.

My automatic is doing pretty well. Just because it's covered and in the garage doesn't mean the single digit cold couldn't get to it. My dash pad cracked during a recent cold snap.
I have a replacement on the way though.

Atleat i havent heard too many stories of people totally wrecking their cars this winter...... i wish everyone could just park them!! This is the first year mine has been inside the garage, use to sit outside over the winter... Ive got the motor/trans/and rear end out of mine right now, re painting the 406 adding some guide plates, new pushrods, edelbrock performer eps intake, 4th gen rear end, and a new clutch that will hopefully hook up for me!!!

Yeah I baracade it up for the winter
The tires i pulled out of the garage and need to go to the dump and the "chicken wire" is used as a fence for the dog. I am just glad I have a garage at my house to keep it in. The last 3 winters I had to depend on other garages to keep it in.

I had her out while there was still snow on the ground... She did alright. REALLY had to watch that gas pedal tho. i had a blazer before this, and it had posi. It wasnt as touchy due to the power difference. This car is a totally different beast. One little flick will send the tail wagging all over the place. Good thing the rear is light so it cant pull the front along with it. It did ok though. If I HAD to go out in the snow, I could. No more than an inch or so.
Justin
P.S. My major gripe with winter...the stupid SALT!!! They pour it on the road so thick its like riding on a dirt road most of the time. Makes it slippery too, even when the roads are dry. Found that out the hard way.

Man they over-salt the roads big time! I swear this year its like they do it even when theres flurries, its totally stupid. I keep hoping i can get my car out just to drive it around the area to get it moving, but no! Dumbass trucks gotta pour the hell outta that salt.
Even when the weather is dry, im not joking, the roads are white, like there made out of salt. Trucks drive on the road, and blow that salt all over place making it looking like were in a fog cloud made out of SALT! Its horrible!
To bad all roads are not heated from underneath, that be some project to pull off, hehe.

Well, while your cars are in hiding, mine is out having fun. I spent a week cruising around in the snow at the ski lodge. People sure look at you funny when you haul skis with your T/A

But u can always just buy POS beater for the winter. Sure as heck beats from having your nice f-body out in that damn Winter.
I mean thats the only reason why i got my GTA, is cause i knew going into it that i was gonna have a second car. Theres just no way i can see myself driving that car in the Winter. Id much rather have someone else have it and store in the Winter if i couldnt do it.
Plus insurance is SO much cheaper having both my GTA and Grand Prix insured at the same time. U know i only pay $100 every 6 months now for my GTA cause we managed to put it under some "classic" insurance.
It just works out great for me.
Now i wish i had some spare money so i can mod this thing, its just sitting there looking at me, no fair.

all i can say is i hate black ice...... i was goin around a turn and hit ice and slid straight into a curb.... so then i was down to 3 1/2 rims. lukily i found a rim in a junkyard and i was back on the road. but then my dash pad cracked.
