Im getting some new tire's this week! Getting a good deal on some FireHawks SS20 245-50-16 for my Formula.

Anyway I was wondering what my car would look like with the white lettering showing instead of the blackwall.
Does anybody have any pics of a 3rd gen with the white lettering side showing???

Thanks

There's pics of one in this thread...

I personally am not a big fan of the white lettering showing, I prefer a black sidewall. It does look good on some cars, but not on thirdgens, IMO.

i say no white too. just one more thing to clean and if you rub them on a curb the look bad. also if to rub them on a curb often the become white walls.

This topic always brings in alot of different opinions, and here is one more. I like the raised white letters, don't like the white outlined ones and clean basic black is always nice. It all depends on your taste, always lead, don't follow..........

depends, i think. For a more classic look, raised white letters on meaty tires look good. For a more Pro-touring type look, black sidewalls all the way. I know if i ever actually get around to ordering slicks, i want to show off a big white M/T on the side

Damn Mettali I thought you liked my car. It's all about personal preference and what look you want to achieve with your car. Here's mine. I think i'll keep them. I get lot's of compliments. but it will be time for new rubber this summer so the situation will be re-evaluated then but I will probably stay with the RWL look.

I did not know they still made those white letter relics from the past.
One of the most dated items you can put on your car. Must be some old rubber someone found in the warehouse.

Thanks for the pics

I went 1 step further and bought a .75cent white tire crayon and did 2 off my old tires on the car. And I do not like it, so blackwall it is!

Thanks again fellow 3rd-gennerz............ Cruz on!!

I used to think it was cool... but now I can't stand them.

The only time you should ever have white letters showing is on youre slicks.

I liked the 15" BFG white letter tires I had on the 83, but I don't think they would look right on 16" or bigger wheels. Does anyone even make 16" inch white letter tires, other than truck tires?

If you've got big sidewalls, like 50 or 60 series, then yes, but they look funny on short sidewalls. I have white letter tires on my 245/60R15's.

if they're raised, couldn't you just sand them off? i can't imagine the white is that thick. or some kind of black paint at least....

agreed. i like them on mine, but way down the road when i get a solid blue paint job and 17" IROC wheels, i will be switchn' to the black side walls.

I like your car too Nite Rider!

I swear to *** I tried to grind mine off with a disc grinder. Believe it or not... it is actually white rubber somehow molded to the black... you end up with big white circles where the letters used to be.

oh yeh... i forgot to mention, those goodyear eagle GTs are the same tires that came factory on my car, so the raised white lettering has a pupose of originality too.

Heres a bad pic of mine with raised white letter. I now have 15" Z-28 wheels w/o raised white letters. They looked alright, but better on my camaro than T/A. The T/A now looks better without the raised white letters.

SMURFN' Z28
Your car looks great with them, But in my opinion, I think they only look right on cars with the ground effect stripes.
As they came from the factory.

I think the Good Year yellow letter, the NASCAR, would look pretty good. Anyone have them? I don't think they make them for 50 series and up though.

I think what it comes down to is if your rockin 15s ya gotta go with the raised whites. I have gone both ways on my car and the white breaks up the black so they dont look like tonka truck tires when the armor all wears off.

I like the look with 15's, it breaks up that huge sidewall. This is on my 91 Jimmy...

I've never seen 16" white letter tires on a car--
please post a pic whe you get them on.

I've had 16" black side wall and 15" rasied white letters. The white helps break up the huge, 65 series sidewall.
