Color change of TA gauge cluster...

Anyone change the color of the gauge cluster lights on a Trans Am? How hard is it? Aren't the bulbs just 194? I can't stand that orange color and wanted to go with a different color. Anyone have any pics with the different color?

I'm going to change from the orange to red but I'm gonna wait for a bulb to go out in my radio before I swap them all, there's a grip; Dash, HVAC, Radio, Console...

can you just replace the bulb and it changes the color or is there something on the back of the gauge face that makes it look orange and the bulb is just clear? i want to change mine out to red to but i want to get my white face gauges and neon glowing needles first.

Yes, you only need to change the bulbs themselves. When you take your cluster out and pull the bulbs you will see that they are orange, just pop some red ones in there and your're set...

I have done this and it is very easy to do. Here is the problem. A/C still lights up orange.. I pulled it and there are some very very tiny bulbs in there that are not 194 and are clear. I think it lights up orange by some film behind the display panel or something.

the buttons on the dash trunk pop and defroster still light up orange and the dim light above the light dimmer still lights orange.

Any ideas.?

Oh so they are just colored bulbs. Good I thought there was a plastic backing that gave them their color like in some cars. Well I am going to try this out in the near future. I don't mind the AUX stuff that much. I just can't stand the gauge cluster crap being orange.

Well yeah so do mine, I don't think you can buy red ones though so you would need to find red bulbs to switch...

So couldn't I just take off the rubberish slips and put any color bulb I wanted in? Say like if I wanted blue bulbs, I would just swap the old bulbs out using blue bulbs and just not use the rubber slip?

Exactly, the bulbs are clean under the colored cover. This only applies to the bulbs in the cluster though mind you...

I bought blue LEDs from http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...gi?product=CAR

They install just like 194 bulbs.
Here is a pic.

I ordered WLED-B Blue LED bulb
I got 10 of them, the dash takes 9 if I remember correctly. I also replaced the foot lights with blue 194s, and the dome light with a blue one. It gives a nice blue glow. And if that wasnt enough I have blue neons under the dash on each side and a lighted blue switch to the right of the steering wheel.

How did you change the color of the buttons on the dash as well as the a/c controls?

The pic is photoshopped. But there are lights behind the HVAC that can be switched also. I am going to do that also but I am going to try and find a firebird at a junkyard and take that apart for practice. I have tried to take mine out and it seem pretty tough. We will see.

the lights in the back of the HVAC are very tiny and clear, there is something else to make it glow orange.. there are no condoms on the HVAC Lights.

The climate controls are muc hharder to change the color of. In fact, I am not sure how to do it. The bulbs behind the climate control panel are white. The orange color actually comes from the overlay on the face of it. Its clear plastic, which has several layers of silkscreened paint on the back of it, and one of the layers is orange paint. I have already tried just sanding off the orange, but it doesn't work, all the paint comes off, includin the black face and the letters. I guess maybe you could try and only scratch the red paint off with an xacto or something.
