New looking Reservoirs
Does anyone know, how can you whiten up the plastic coolant and windshield washer reservoirs? Is there another solution than just getting new ones, so the engine bay will look like nice? the ones on my '90 RS are looking yellowish and tarnished.
Thanks,

Thanks, but I was thinking more along the lines of light sanding, vinegar, etc. to help their looks a bit. Come to think of it, I could also adapt some smaller parts from an import, to make more room.

Yeah but look how much CLR costs, that and all the extra time needed. Plus older cars one's are most likelyon the verge of cracking from the heat and age by now anyway. Just install new ones. There is a point where you are so cheap you drive your car into the ground by saving money and not doing it right, where do you draw the line?

you know a while back someone from here put a reservoir from a ford(yes I know evil
) but it looked really good. The reason why is that it's smaller and compacted looking. If I remember correctly it also had the wiper bottle with it too. Kinda of like a combo of the two. But it did look really sharp.

I bought a new reservoir for my T/A a couple years ago at the dealer cause the little spout on the bottom of my old one broke off, plus the top didn't seal well. Mine's the smaller, sort of "triangular" shaped one (for lack of a better word). I only mention this cause I know some 3rd gens came with a much larger cubic shaped one. Mine only cost $13 plus change, and that was dealership prices. Just get a new one, your old one's probably getting a little brittle by now anyways.

Get some simple green or windex, and a toothbrush, and you can actually clean them up pretty nice. Mine are 20 years old and they cleaned up great

yeah, i may actually be putting in one from a ford. its a washer and coolant tank. about the size of a car battery. empties out the engine bay a bit. snagged it from work (worked at a towing/mechanic/used car) for free. who knows, maybe it'll go in this spring

A toothbrush and some tough cleaning agent should do the trick....
They can clean them up quite a bit, but.......the cloudy yellow will stick around......
BUT they will never look as good new.....
$10 says Kandied91Z went out of his way to get red washer fluid to match his car.......

i tried bleach, CLR, wd40, almost anything i could find and it only cleaned it up a bit. i let mine even soak for a week in PURE bleach and it didnt do anything.. i would just buy new ones or look in a junk yard for some half decent ones.

I removed my washer fluid reservoir. I never drive it in crappy weather anyway. Now I only have one ugly tank to look at.
What about a black plastic or aluminum overflow tank from Summit or anyone else? Those look cool and won't need constant replacing

man.... where do you drive that thing to mess up a coolant overflow tank enough to justify buying a new one every year? jeeze, sounds like over kill to me.

I replace it every year because they are dirt cheap and the plastic does tend to go to an off white from the heat and it doesn't match the whiteness of the washer fluid bottle after about 8K miles. It just looks bad to me unless both of them match perfect... Supreme Member

$17 locally, PN 14070997 for an '86 Trans Am coolant overflow tank. GM Parts Direct $7.73!!!!!! List price was something like $13.xx... Can you say, local parts store is a rip off?
