I need knowledge on Wheel/Tire size.

I have 16X8 Iroc Wheels. I need more stickiness in the back to aviod wheel spin. What is the widest, safest, size I can put in the back without rubbing? What about the front? I don't know what size tire I have now. Also I have a set of Centerline sabers with ribbets around the center. If anyone has these, please let me know because I need to find 2 for sale. I broke 2 of mine on the free way. I believe they had 4.5 inch backspacing, or 4? I'll post pics asap.

well since the thirdgen firehawk came with 17x9.5 with 275's on them i'd say it's definately safe to run at least that!

as far as whats safe to run on a 16 like your stockers....i wouldn't go over 255. but that's just me, i'm sure you'll hear otherwise.

well i was told from numerous tire shops like i can run 245's on my 15x7's so you should easily be able to fit 275's on some 16x8's, hope that helps

I wouldnt run 275's unless you went with a wider rim. Going to wide on a narrow rim will (i can't think of the technical word) give some sidewall sway. You dont have to go wider to get more grip. You can buy a stickier compound tire in the stock 245/50/16 size.

yeah if your that worried just use some dr's....you'll be sure to rip your stock rear in half.

if you can outperform a z rated 245 tire on the street your doing pretty good. going larger than 255 on a 16" rim will hurt your performance on the street or road course.

are these tires in good condition that your spinning....?

except from a dead standstill my pilots wouldn't spin over 20 no matter if i was running stock power or the extra 125 shot.

just go with some bfg or nitto dr's on the stock rim, unless your running some serious power that's more than enough.

Do not buy tires on the basis of their tread wear rating. Do some research, call and talk to somebody at Dunlop or Bfg etc. and choose a set that has consistent grip in the temperatures you'll be running in. The last set I had was monarch. They were about 280 or something each, lasted about 8000 miles. I cant even describe how well they handled. The Dunlops on my ZX-9 have only lasted 2300 miles. I cant say im happy with the short tread life but I sure wouldnt trade grip for mileage.

I got schooled once on this and found out you can even fit a 295 on the 15x7 wheel. You can put really wide tires, but it all depends on the size of the sidewall. If the sidewall is small (45 and lower for example) then you cant go much wider than the wheel. If the sidewall is big (like a 55, 60 or even 65 like you might find on a 15" wheel) then you can go much wider than the wheel. I wouldnt trust it myself, and it looks funny, but I've seen pics and people swear by it (racing and all). For me personally I would run 255's front and rear with a 50 sidewall. Thats what I got on my 16's. Like HotRodn said, you can probably find tires with better grip and retain a somewhat close to OEM setup for piece of mind. I would go that route.
