it used to be a dark grayish brown, with dirt, paint, dust and road grime on it becuz it had 150,000 on the motor and now look at it. this picture came out a bit blury but the polishin job is more reflective then that.

That looks very nice! I'm assuming you used a sanding block to keep from going into the black part between the letters? Looks great!

nope it all used to be a dirty gray color, i just took an air die grinder type thingy to remove the paint on the letters and whatnot and then wet sanded with 600 then 1500 and then polished with mothers.

after that i took a paint prep spray and cleaned it good and then put turtle wax over all the polished parts and then sprayed it with flat black engine paint (2 coats) and then after it dryed good i scraped off the black paint that was on the polished arear with the plastic end of a 40 amp maxi fuse.

then taped off the enitre area that was polished and painted black and then also taped off the throttle body too and that one thing on the side u see is all dirty ( the master tech didnt want that sprayed) and then sprayed it with a semi-gloss ford grey color and let it dry good and then polished the polished area again to get anything that stayed on it off.

edit: also the black area wasnt black, it was that dirty color that i pointed out before

no problem, this is like the best polishin piece ive done. so far the only things ive polished were ya brother upper plentum on his 91 z28, my b&m shifter handle and my lava lamp (not finished yet). and my handle and lava lamp i used just mothers polish and my brother plentum he kinda started but i finished it to an almost mirror. i know my work isnt as good as some people stuf on here but its in my book good.

That polishing looks good. I don't have the patience to do some polishing. I started to do some polishing on some of my engine accessories, but I never finished. The parts I did finish looked good. I am all for polishing in the engine bay, really makes the engine bay stand out.

You should try using compounds, you'll be amazed at the difference.

Alluminum doesnt rust it oxidizes. The best way to keep polished alluminum great looking is to clean it regulary and put some alluminum polish on it too. LOL I like your avatar.
