I Need Opinions On an IROC I Found...
OK guys, I need your opinions. I found a 1990 IROC today that a guy is selling. It's a LB9 5-speed that runs smooth and strong. It's white with NO T-tops and beige leather interior. The body is straight with no rust while the interior is in fair condition...no rips in the seats but the leather wrapped steering does have a tear in it a the top. It has 16 inch wheels and the tires are very good shape. The power locks and power windows don't work either. It has 130,000+ miles. He's asking $3900 for it and I can't decide if that is a fair price for that car. I've tried to get him down to 3600 or 3700 but he won't bite. What do you guys think?

I think it sounds like a pretty fair price. If it was in very good condition it would probably be 5-8k, so with the problems it has and the miles it seems like a fair price to me

knocking $100 off $3800 isnt much
I think that's pretty high. Granted the LB9 and a 5-speed is a nice combo, and 90 is a comparably rare year for an IROC, but that's a lot of cash for such a high-mileage car. You already know the power accessories don't work....you don't know what other problems will reveal themselves on a 130k f-body, now, and not very far in the future. Did you check the brakes? Did you try opening and closing the hatch? How's the exhaust? And it doesn't even have T-tops. That's definately a $3000 or best reasonable offer car if you ask me, and that's assuming the body is as nice you described.

You should do more research. The license agreement with the International Race Of Champions ran out 12-31-1989. IROC's were built in the Van Nuys plant until that date with the redsigned interior (airbags) and release as 1990 models. Still need proof?? Try the Tech Data section.

The 1990 model year was only a half year of production due to Chevrolet not renewing the IROC contract, no IROC-Z's were produced after 12/31/1989. Instead, the 1991 Camaros were introduced early during last half of the 1990 model year.
1990 IROC's and RS's are easily identifiable: 1990 was the first year for the updated interior which included drivers side airbag, redesigned instrument panel, yellow lettering on dash, rounded controls, etc. So 1990 IROC's are the only IROC's with the new interior. 1990 RS's are the only RS's with the new interior and the older valances (before the new `scooped' side valances).
sorry for shooting my mouth off when alls i read was the top part
when you said 90 i was thinking so they did not make any, so none were tiled that way and no i was not owned!

well now you're just contradicting yourself. What you said in the previous post is correct. The post in which you were "owned" contradicts what you just said. You said there was no such thing as a MODEL YEAR 1990 IROC, meaning that no IROCs were released as a 1990 model year, which in fact they were as you just stated.

so i assume that is the same car in your sig. if so welcome to the 3 third gen owners club. check my sig
i paid 5K cash for my 91 Formula 350 with decent paint, clean and strong running engine, good working tranny and clean interior. the car itself had 112,000 miles on it but it didn't look it so i think i made out good. however the dealer wanted 7K if paid by credit. THAT woulda been too much.
later on i learned the motor in it wasn't the original one, but it may have been a good thing. 112K miles on an engine is too much IMO.

Sounds like a nice car but the price just sounds to high unless there was recent work done to justify the price. Was there anything done recently, clutch work, engine work, modifications, anything ??? Also, If he wont budge on the price perhaps he would fix the pwr windows and locks

The power windows and locks problem was nothing more than a fuse. The seats have been taken out and the carpet steam cleaned. I've looked it over thoroughly and have found no mechanical problems. I've put some 17 inch ROH ZS wheels with Kumho 711's on, tinted the windows, and removed the pinstripe in the two months that I've had it. Overall I've been very happy with the car.
