Thats the thread I learned from and using compounds gave me much better results much faster than sanding all the way up to 2000.

But both methods will work.

alright i tried a little today on the ac canister.... didnt come out the way i have seen it, but it did come out ok.... i left the top half of the canister where the fitings are cast and polished the lower portion and top.... amazing chit watching it go from cast to polished.... now more questions.... i have a couple of small scratches all over it any way i can get this out.... i went 150,220,360 wet, 400 wet (not sure on the exact numbers) tripoli then white rouge...

is tripoli supposed to be so hard comming out of the tube or soft.... i had to put some muscle into getting it on the pad....

also as far as sanding goes any ways (power tools) to make it go faster.....

start with emery compound first, then the tripoli, also, to get scratches out, make sure when you sand that all the scratches from the previous grit are gone before moving on to your next grit, and the more 400 wet, the better! Just finished my wheels

id say harder to begin with, then going to a lighter, more gliding motion as you move to the higher grits, but, you really shuld just take your time and make sure all scratches from previous grits are filled/sanded out before moving to your next grit and repeat.

As for power tools, I really cant help, only tools i used were the drill for the buff rest was by hand with a sanding block to promote even sanding.

alright cool... well i was using my hand to follow the contours of the ac canister... i have the block and it seems that it was just getting in my way...i think where i went wrong was the sanding.... i might have spent too little time on the 220 or 360 grit... as far as tools go anyone has any more input.... and the major question is tripoli supposed to be rock solid comming out of the tube its usualy in?

Yup, just let the buff touch it for 2 seconds or so, then use it and repeat. The buff shuould grab it just fine if your using a high enough speed drill.
