What color to paint my 87 TA?
I'm about to start the bodywork on my 87 TA, and had planned to paint it the factory red (slightly darker formula, like Redraif's). I even had the paint, but it turns out I'm going to use it on a friend's 84 Firebird convertible instead (I get my paint for free through my job). Since I'm going to have to get more paint mixed anyway, what color should I paint it? Red is ok, but I'd really like to do something different. The interior is black, so whatever I use has to look good with black. I'm considering:
Corvette Millenium Yellow
Sunset Orange Metallic
Hugger Orange
...or possibly black...maybe even one of the newer black metallics like they're using on some of the Benz's and Volvos now. Any other ideas? What color would you paint it if it were yours? Metallics are fine, but no candies (this is a daily driver).

I'm thinking go Hugger orange like mine, but do base/clear and add some dark color pearl to it, like deep blue or something?...
just throwing out ideas...

Yes, free...I work for a paint booth company, and a couple of the manufacturers we work with will provide paint to me from time to time. So, anything HOK is out for now. I'll use some of their stuff on my 85 possibly (for the graphics), and maybe Shannon's 82 (the flames). My 85 TA is going to be black, I agree with you there. I'm sort of known for black cars, so I want something different for this one. Red (the factory color) is ok, but I don't want it to look too much like Redraif's car. Its weird enough seeing two red 87 birds in her carport now!

People at work thought I was nuts...it had so many coats of paint on it, I had to strip it down with aircraft stripper (several applications), prime, fill, sand, prime, fill, sand...painting the back half esp was a pain. The back is cast iron for weight, and very porus, so getting it slick was a lot more time consuming than I thought. No way I was going to cover all that work up with a "stock" yellow paintjob! I'm laying out the flames now (first time for that), and I'm not happy with them so I may let Redraif give it a shot this weekend. I can get the basic pattern down fine, but the thickness of the licks isn't consistent enough for me. The painting is the easy part!
Once the painting is finished, I'm going to finish it off with yellow rollbar padding and maybe some chrome zoomie style exhaust and a Mooneyes side mirror (the cross style like Jesse James uses).

No one uses it but me, and it goes days at a time without being used at all, so it should look good for a long time. I'll post pics when its finished, with a 3rd gen in the background of course!

OK, I've decided...Sunset Orange Metallic it will be. I just found a deal on an ASCD Ram Air 1 hood, I'm shaving the door handles and antenna, and for now it is going to be spoiler-delete (at least until I decide what spoiler I want for it). I'm eliminating the popups, sort of like Redraif's setup but with clear lights (hers have a bluish tinge), turn signals, and side markers. The tailights will be stock, but polished. It'll have the stock wheels for now (polished lip, painted centers)...the same ones 82Firebird has in his post. I'll finish the exterior off with some tint (20% or so) and new window weatherstrips.
