Is Armorall good to use? I've heard otherwise.
Is Armorall good to use? I've heard otherwise.
I got a full Armorall kit for Christmas, its loaded with lots of things. But I've read some detailing sites, and they say they use petrolium based products and it eats paint after a period of time. Now I don't know how old this info was, but on the back of the bottles it says they dont use any. I don't want to just not use them, since they were a gift, but I also dont want to use them if they are harmful.
Things change, and I was just wondering if you fellas knew or use/have used them.
Now I'd use it on my Bronco to clean it up real nice when its time to sell it. So I'm not entirely worried about long time damage, since I wont own it. But I don't believe in thrashing a vehical or not taking care of it just because you're going to sell it in the future.
Not to mention I'd like to know for use on the camaro when I get it.
Also...I've seen a few cars that come into work that use the interior cleaners (not sure of brand) and either they use way to much or whatever, but it looks greasy and dust sticks to it. And everything you touch feels oily.

Well the bad thing about using the armor all is that you must keep on using it or the int panels will dry up and crack. I've always used armorall on all my int,
but I have yet to have any problems using it. I always use some on my car each week. I know I should go to using another product but I like the smell of the armorall
LOL

LOL I used to use armor-all only and nothing wlse until a friend gave me a bottle of stuff he found called Plastic Trim Detailer. Works 10X better, stays shining for a month and a half, and doesn't dry out anything...I would suggest picking some up at your local Advanced Auto Parts!!! I highly recommend it

Is there anything that doesn't attract so much dust?

This is a common question actually. Now being that I have detailed cars for over 13 years now I will never, ever use armoral junk on even my enemies interior. Not only is it a dust magnet, but it prevokes cracking. I actually use nothing on the panels. If you keep the plastic clean there is no need for shinny crap. Armoral is for cheaters who are to lazy to clean it right IMO no offence meant to any who use it, but that is my opinion. Simoniz or however you spell it make a good semi gloss wipe, that works very well and easy to apply. No overspray on your windows and what not. But again this is my opinion. D what you wish, but I will never use any armoral product..never!:nono:
whats wrong with amorall? I've been using it ever since I got my car and have had no problems with it. Maybe it's cause I armorall my car all the time(not lately since its winter). Its the only thing i've used in my car and I think it works great, maybe I should try something else....spring is around the corner, any suggestions?

What about baby oil? Does anyone use it? My friend always uses it and says its better than anything out there. I personally like the mothers.
well, personally i take my leather conditioner after i have done the seats etc . . . and tiny amoun left on the vloth to wipe down the plastics and dash areas . .
also, a California Dash duster makes it easy to keep dust free, if i recall, you third gener's have really large dashes ?
and then there is 303 Protectant . .excellent stuff . . .

Amour all is bad because it has water in it! The water must get absorbed into the plastics, but it will actually age it quicker and dry it out quicker. You would have tpo stay on top of it all the time reapplying...Not for me. Plus it leaves an odd residue feeling...
Silicone is the best for plastics. I have been using Black Magic since 89...the stuff is amazing! I still have the stock dash no cracks...I also still have the factory weather strip in my t-tops, not a single leak ever. They have never had to be repaired either. They have a low gloss interior protectant spray and a thick silicone for the exterior trim. The black Magic has plasticizers that are absorbed into the plastic and they recondition it. it also has UV protectant.

MY car has had armor all used on the interior since it was new and ALL the plastics and dash pad are still in excellent condition,17 years later. Its a matter of preference.
The water won't hurt the plastics. The thing that is the most damaging in Armor All is the alcohol. To thin it out, alcohol is used. This is what draws out the natural oils and causes the dash to crack.
My belief is the same as it is with the tires. These items are not supposed to have a reflective shine. If they are kept clean, the dust will not attract to the oils in these products causing the constant necessity to dust or clean again. I use 3M's plastic protectant. It gives it the new car look with no shine and it repells dust

I've heard from many different people from different places, but I like to hear more, just to know what everyone uses. And it seems like the majority like Mothers, Black Magic, and Maguiers.
I havent used that armor all kit because I've heard so much bad stuff about it. But I figured I'd ask again, since it was a gift from my mom....heh.

Take note of this:
Last Christmas somebody gave me one of those armor-all kits and I used it all last summer on the inside and outside of my car and the tires too. Wouldn't you know that progressively over time all 4 of my tires DRY ROTTED! (which were bought at different times and had different mileage on them). I have used Armor all on most of my cars in the past 15 years and can remember most of them had problems with dash pads cracking and tires dry rotting.
I would never use that crap again. I wish I could sue them bastards for wrecking all the **** their product has ruined in the past.
To anybody thats used this on their tires, please check them for dry rot and post here. If we can get enough people together maybe we can get a class action suit going?
