Sylvania Silverstar's!

After reading the posts about these lights, I went to Auto Zone tonight and picked up a couple for $47 after tax. I installed them tonight with a huge thunderstorm appoaching. I put one in and then turned on the lights to see the difference. There is a good difference. The Silverstar is quite a bit brighter than my old dull light. I was going to take a picture of the difference, but was thinking I was going to be hit by lightning any minute so I just installed the other one. I really like them! I can't wait to drive to work in the morning! Matt

I've had the regular ol' halogens, the cool blue, the xtravisions and the silverstars, as well as a set of those glass lenses that hold the 9004 bulbs. I think the extravisions had the best light pattern, but the silverstars are the best of the bunch overall with decent lighting with a very nice appearance.

The light is much whiter than any of the others, is well focused and lights up to road in front of the car well. It was easy to aim on a dark road due to the definition of the lighting pattern and I could see the street signs at night better than I could with most of the rest of the bulbs.

Those glass 9004 bulb holders that I tried for our cars were basically worthless for lighting and the appearance wasn't all that either. Bleh.

If you like the look of projector bulbs or HID you'll like the silverstars. They aren't HID or projector, but then they aren't 300-600$ either.

HTH!

one thing that I learned about silverstars though is that looking at them doesnt really show that much of a difference then stock bulbs or otehr aftermarket bulbs. But when you see how much of hte road it lights up thats where you see the difference. My freind has those bulbs and theyre pretty damn bright.

Are these bolt-ins or is modification required?

Standard off-the-shelf replacement bulbs. DOT approved direct bolt in.

I'm not sure my digital will get you a decent enough picture, but I'll try it tonight.

Well, not that you can tell from the photo, but this is them. Kind of hard if you don't see them in person, but they look great! I'd say they were worth the money! Very bright! I'm taking a drive out in the country tomorrow night! Matt

I've been thinking about getting those. I definitely need some better lights. Is there any problem with temperature, being a hotter bulb?

i think that if the wires going to the headlights were larger the xtravisions would be better. i have these on my supra and they really lit the road up, a lot better than the cool blue's , and imo better tha nthe silver stars, but the silverstars i seen were the small rectangular type that the camaro's use, and the supra uses the type that the t/s have, so it was not an accurate comparison, but the wires going to the lights on my supra are 10 awg, compared to 14 on ours, quite a difference.

thanks
anthony

I've been driving with these lights the past few nights and they are sweet! The light is incredible compared to the old lights. They illuminate an even amount, not spotty with dark areas like other lights. They also light up out to the sides really well. High beams are awesome! I definately recommend these lights! Matt

A good way to tell if the lights are brighter in the picture is to take a picture with your lights on in the daytime.

Stock lights in the daytime appear yellowish. If these new Silverstars are as bright as you say, then the lights should look whitish during the daytime.

I have the cool blue's right now. I wonder how much of an improvement Silvertars over the cool blues?

even the xtravisions are better than the cool blues. but like i said above, bigger wires may make the xtravisions better than even the silverstars.

thanks

I just got the silverstar's... mother of mercy are they one hell of an improvement...

I've tried cool blues, xenon h4/9004 + conversion kit, "el cheapo", "el cheapo 55 W"....

Silverstar's are no comparison to those... they are simply whiter, brighter and a major improvement...

Pics will no do these lights justice, they illuminate the road quite well.. I was able to see 3 lanes wide and a bit farther than the 55 W high intensity bulbs. (On another note the silverstar's use 40 W, stock power so wiring is not an issue.)

The xenon's were really hot bulbs due to their current draw.. heck they caused the high beam circuit to activate from inductance.. weird.. the heat also SHATTERED the conversion kit which is how I ended up with silverstars.. but I don't regret getting the silverstars now as they make the xenons look like crap.

Yesterday, at Advance Auto, I had an opportunity to see the difference between stock and the Silverstars. There was a set-up, in store, where you could actually turn on the light with a press of a button. Very impressive compaired to stock.
