I was looking at my hood options, and the classic cowl doesn't really appeal to me. I kinda like the SS type, but seems a few around my area have them. Do the low profile Aeroscoops look to corny for a street car? I say street meaning it's not an 8 second 1/4 car (yet ) In other words, if I had a clean, proffessional done Aero on my car, and you drove by a parking lot with my car there, would you "yuck" or "that's cool"? Honest please

 

I really woulnt know unless I saw it. Tell ya what.. post ya pic and see if someone will photoshop one on your car. If they dont.. I will.. but tomorrow. I hope

 

Dont do it unless your car can back up the image it's protraying.

I didn't really think that the low profile Aeros were portraying to much. I thought it might be a refreshing change than everyone elses cowls and such. Going to carb and have hood clearance issues anyway, so I figured what the hell. Thanks for your opinions!

Here's the kind I'm taliking about, it's overall dimensions are
36" long and 9" high. They have one shorter that is only 7" and a mini even shorter that is 4 1/2" But that has to be custom made. The shop I'm getting them from if I do get one want roughly $250 a piece, customs are higher.

Only problem I see with it is that the areo schoop wont fit flush on the Iroc hood. The vents will cause a probem.

If you can score a flat hood for cheap, you would be fine.

I say do it. dare to be different. just go with the shortest high scoop they have. There is one that bolts on, but the flange is inside were you dont see it.

As far as being able to back it up, didnt you get the head and cam swap done. Should be a strong motor.

Hell, I still have my stock 92 Z hood, which I plan on keeping, just because everyone else is changing theres.

 

Here's a pic of one on a Camaro, but I don't think one this big would be good on a street car, like the others said as long as you can back up the looks.....

 

That's a bit big G-91Z, I was looking at one quite a bit smaller. I think the dimensions were 36L, 28W, and maybe shelling out cash for the 4 1/2 " tall. I'm going to the shop later, he has a pic of that small Aero on a Mustang. If someone could fotochop that aero on mine I would appreciate it!!

 

I'm in the middle of the swap now, having some wiring issues. I've got a new Air Gap RPM I'm gonna trade for, and about a 150 shot with that. TH400 swap is also coming, just have to get the driveshaft.

 

You should be ok about backing it up!

Pm me if you have any questions on the swap. All I like is the heater and raidiator hoses. And clamping off a fuel line.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Like 12 Sec GTA said, you need to have the HP to back it up or people will think you're a poser. My friend had a Malibu with plexiglass side windows, plastic bucket seats & Simpson harnesses. It ran 13's. People laughed. Eventually, he built it up til he ran 10's. I'd wait on the big scoop until you get into the 10's.

 

Hey man do what you want. Its your car. Id go with one that sits almost right on top of the hood, something real low profile but i think if you do it right it will look sweet.

Also if your just looking for something interesting that not a lot of people are running check out this hood by Cervini.....



Its kinda cool looking. My ex-girlfriend had one on her 92 RS and it looked pretty sweet.

 

i think they look bad ***. i was seriously considering one myself. i would stick to the smaller bolt on styles. there was a fox body around here that had one, it looked killer

 

Thanks for the chop job and ideas. The cowl and SS looks are popping up everywhere, I was looking for something different. I like the one you posted 88blk, think there is enough clearance for carb with 1" spacer and RPM Airgap? I looked at the Mustang and it was real nice. The opening came down flush with the hood, and there was no large bulge in the middle of the scoop, just nice slope. Thanks again guys!

www.cervinis.com I dunno how much space it provides for a carb and whatnot. Id assume about as much clearance as a 2" cowl would give you from the looks of it. Maybe the company can give you more info.

 

Yeah I think an aero that was cut in half then put on the hood would look cool.

 

I think it looks silly on a car that is purely street driven. If you drag raced your car on a regular basis then I think it would be ok. If you are getting it for looks, I have to say no, unless you can back up the looks of that scoop. When I see scoops like that on cars at the track, they usually run lower than 12's. Most people who have them get them for thier function and not looks.

 

The Mustang that had the mini Aero looked like the bottom "riser" of the scoop was trimmed and molded. The opening sloped same as the hood, it was nice. Could see the air filter assembly through the front. I'm looking for function, as well as look. I said it will see very little street, but when I do drive through town or to the track, I don't want to look like a jackass. Fresh air intake, clearance for the carb, lighter weight, and great looks. That's why I'm going through all the trouble of this, otherwise I would just get a bolt on and live with it.

I'll check that website for the Cervini. Hope it meets my needs, cause the look is sharp!

 

I've found a winner! Thanks for showing me this hood! It's $399 fiberglass, and has a cooling effect. It's the same as a 3" scoop in clearance. Thanks again for the help and opinions!

 

that is the pelech bros. car.(i know them personally) that car runs 7.90's and 7.80's in the 1/4. personally, the car looked better with the 6" cowl hood it had on it before the aero, however, the car can get a significant increase in air flow since it goes so fast. i (personaly) would not use that car as a role model (appearance wise) for a car that is going to run 13's/14's.

p.s. i talked to the pelech bros at the last nmca race (in commerce GA) and they seemed a little disturbed that their car was all over a big website that they have never heard of.

I don't see how it performs affects the looks either ay - it's either nice looking, or it's not. Sure, it could be functional, but toilet paper isn't nice looking when it is or isn't functional...hoods shouldn't be different. A car may NEED a parachute to stop because it's so fast, but that still looks dumb. Personally, I think it's a bit obtrusive looking for your car, but meh...

 

I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't condemn you for doing it.
