Primer will also rust in the water and stuff, cause it is porous i think

Primer is designed to absorb moisture so paint will adhere to it more easily. Problem being that it doesn't know the difference between rain and paint.

You can clear over the primer..... Just a thought. I don't care for the look of primered cars either, but those who do, clear , or some type of sealer is an option.

looks better on old muscle cars. they're usually the ones that are the fastest!!!!! you think they suck because they're primer, but then they eat you.

I am not a fan of the primer look on thirdgens either.
I am happy with a single color, nothing to fancy for a daily driver.

heeeeeey, thats not a bad idea....

ok im being sarcastic.

im just saying that im sick of having a bra on my car, it doesnt have *****, and the bastard that sold it to me told me there was no damage under it, and i was just too damned lazy to look =) so i would rather most of the car look good with the bra on, but now im noticing the bra holds alot of dirt and grime and stuff under it, kinda rubbing on the paint, so i think i might take it all to primer untill i get to paint it, or would it look that bad with just primer splotches over where there is no paint??? i wonder...

what do ya mean primer is good!!!

BTW if ya use etch or epoxy primer ya dont have to worry about water absorbtion. It does hold true with primer/surfacer tho.

if you sprayed primer over the original paint, you wouldn't have a problem right?

hey dont dis the primer coated beauties....if you saw what my iroc looked like when i bought it youd be amazed at how it looks now. it took me 5months and 34 cans of primer to get it how it is now. not to mention 2 fenders and a drivers door. (a word of advice:never try to swap power windows into a manual door, its possible, but PITA!!!! )

i love it when it rains outside because then the car gets glossy and i can squint my eyes and pretend that its painted

anyways, it will be painted for real in a few weeks.....

That is true, just don't sand it or break the surface skin, or it will absorb too.

If you are going for dull you could got get some satin paint or flat. Actually base coat is flat till you clear it then it glosses up...but it probably will allow water in too.

well i could primer over the paint but then if theres anything on the paint when i primer it which there will be no matter how much i clean it, it will get jacked up, plus the places where the paints gone crappily is like craters of missing paint you know? like all the layers of paint came off not just a scratch or nothin

I probably wouldn't do it myself, but it looks ok in my opinion. Its just like anything else - done well it would probably be ok. I'd have to see it in person to know for sure.

as long as the original paint is in good condition and is not peeling, cracking, etc. and you follow the directions for the primer you should be in like flint.
