side lights and LED's

right now the only thing keeping my car from having this really dark flowing look to it is the side markers, that orange stuff is fugly. so i was wondering where i could pick up a set of clear lenses (i guess thats what they would be called) i'de spray them with some smoke and then put a yellow LED behind it to keep it legal. so where can i get the light cover and a LED that would work?

thanks alot

you can buy the lenses off ebay for about 20 bucks from procarparts, thats where i got mine and you can buy LED 1157 bulbs from this website http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...gi?product=CAR

hmmm never noticed that there was a difference. Well i just found two auctions that would suffice for your needs, just bid on the one that looks like the amber lenses you have now

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33715

or

the ones that you looked both appear to the same but i'm not sure, you could always email procarparts or if you could snap a picture of the inside of the lights i can determine if the other ones will work as i unfortunately haven't had any expereince with the earlier thirdgens

those were the bulbs that are in the fender for the light. anyway that auction includes 2 bulbs so it wouldnt matter. but i still would like LEDs... they are alot better looking in my opinion

yea thats why i went with the procarparts piece as well because it included the bulbs. I did a search online for some led 4015 but couldn't come up with anything so i'm not sure if they're produced. I'm sure you could rig something up if you have the know how.

i asked my neighbor who has an import body shop (hes into flashy lights...) and he said that as long as the LED fits into the orrigional socket it will work. i'm not sure about it but... sounds good. any opinions?

check out the article on installing LED's in the dash here https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/leddash.shtml and hopefully that can provide you with some ideas on how to fab up some LEDs for your turn signals

Autozome carries the amber LEDs that will work. I had to special order the red ones. APC puts them out!

You have to use yellow LED's if you have clear side markers or else you will get pulled over like every day. At least around here you do. I think most states it is the same to.

i think i'm just going to go with clear markers from procarparts, niteshade them, throw in an amber bulb and call it pimperific. i just finished spraying my turn signals. it looks really good! its very dark (so dark that you cant see in) but still blinks orange. the only bad part is i goofed a bit of the nite shade and it got thick at one part, the light shines through really red at that spot but... its still awesome. i recommend everyone doing it. thirdgen or not! rah!

Nope; it's legal to emit white from the front end of a vehicle (ORS). I've been pulled over for other things and been told "That's pushin' it bud..." because they have a blue/purple tint.

What's the point in paying for the clear side markers only to anhiliate them the moment you get them with "Nightshades", why wouldn't you just save so dough and paint the amber ones? Yes, it may look slightly different, but nobody will know the diference, save $30 or go clear, man... Just my $0.02, we all got preferences...

it would take alot more shade to get amber lenses dark. i can use only a couple of coats to darken clear ones as much as i'm wanting to go. and if i went that dark with amber lenses even with another amber bulb it wouldnt show through very well...

ohya, i'm also a strong believer in "do it right the first time so you dont have to pay more later"

My argument was that using a clear sidemarker painted black will yield similar results to an amber sidemarker painted black with a clear blub, so why waste the cash on a clear one? As far as legality, turn signals "must be amber", but again, I've had mine setup like this for over a year. All the ricers sport "superwhite" bulbs, anything but blue doesn't annoy the fuzz around here too bad. Besides, who cares? It's a petty fix-it ticket, it's not even a moving violation.

i'de have to use more niteshade on an amber marker to make it blend with the car than i would on a clear one. (trying to cover up the amber...) with more nite shade on it less light would get through.
