making 91/92 Z28 hood blisters functional
before i go and hack apart a pair of perfectly good 91/92 Z28 hood blisters (and my hood for that matter)
i would like to know if anybody has done this
its obvious what i am going to try to do:
cut out the fake black rubber "grille" part and also cut out the corresponding area underneath them on the hood
i think this is a great idea, not too worried about rain entering, because i think i have a way around that
also, is there anyplace i can get a sort of black rubber molding that i can put around the cut areas and the areas on the hood
and for that matter, like a weatherstripping to seal the openings to the hood......................

You would only be able to cut out the small section where the vent would be under the hood. If you cut out the whole louver section under the hood there wouldn't be any place for the louver too mount. Seems like too much work for too little gain.

yes, its a little gain, but its a free mod, especially considering my car is carbed

If you could please post more info on this, i have been thinking of doing this for a while but don't want to take the chance of destroying my blisters.

Remove the Hood Insulation for accesses to the Hood Blister attachment hardware.
Remove the Hood blisters, be careful not to scratch the hood, I would suggest Two people.
I placed My Hood Blisters upside down on some soft Towels
Next I used a cutting wheel on my die grinder and did a rough cut (undersized) To remove the openings.
Then I used some grinding bits and slowly ground out the remainder of the openings.
You’ll note that the edges of the opening will not match your paint and will require some touchup paint.
Next I found some screen or grill/grate at the local Hardware store and cut it to size and epoxy it to the underside of the Blister openings.
Now the tricky part
The holes in the hood.
I choose my locations for my holes because If I wash my car all the water misses my engine and falls just AFTof the radiator and FWD of the engine, this equates to Much less time to detail all the shiny stuff on my Engine.
You can choose a different area for the holes if you so desire.
So what I did was Tape (Masking tape) the painted side (top of hood) of hood where the blisters sit and located where my square holes are to be cut, the hole started at the front just aft of the attachment point and stopped just before the next center support point ( holes are about 4” x 4” square) check pic at (http://lbsz28blown.cz28.com/images/dscn0004(1).jpg) you may have to copy and paste to get to pic.
I used a jigsaw and then a grinding wheel then a file to cleanup the holes.
Put the Car back together and enjoy.
Good Luck
