"Racing" pedals...

So my friend just got a set of these special "racing pedals" http://www.scfyb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=51209#51209

and he claims that you can do some sort of gas/brake thing at the same time. While they look cool and I may buy a set just because they look 1000x better quality then Sparco/Razo Clamp-o-matics, I can't see how they allow you to step on the brake/gas at the same time... or at least any better then you could with stock pedals. Is this BS, or is there some merrit to "racing" pedals?

its called heal-toe shifting... its for the twisties.. its holding down the clutch brake and gas all at once as you go around a turn so you can get your rpms up as you go around a turn so you can get out of the corners faster... so in that sense yes racing pedals... i never heard of it using autos in heal toe racing, but i guess its possible. Looks very very sweet and is waaaaay better then stock or anything you can get from pep boys or autozone.

Heel toe is only useful in a manual trans car. You can use it in the twisties and you can use it while double clutching to slow down a bit faster before a turn meaning you brake later. You can do it with stock pedals by the way, you don't need special pedals.

Only problem with those metal pedals is driving a stick car with dress shoes on. I'd be wearing a tux and have my sneakers on since the dress shoes would slip off of the clutch pedal pretty easily. It also sucks when your shoes are wet or greasy.

I used to wear a tux every weekend when I was shooting weddings.

I have the same things on my car (automatic).
Last week we went to Germany to race on the "Autobahn".
After a while, driving with 120-130 mls,we went of the autobahn, drove to a small village to get something to drink, pulled the car in to a parking space,in front of a wooden fence with a glashouse on the other side,so far so good.
But when I hit the brake pedal to stop the car,the rpm's got skyhigh!(as did my bloodpressure)!!!
The car was trying to go foreward,so I pressed the brake harder, the engine revved even more!!
You all know what happened,I pressed the brake,AND pressed the gas together!!
The so called "race" flip over pedals are somewhat larger!
It all happened in seconds, but we nearly destroyed a fence,a glasshouse and the car!
Fortunately I got my senses back and threw the stick in "park",and everything went back to normal!.
Something to remember.......!!!!

I think those pedals look good, but I've never had problems heel & toe downshifting with my stock pedals. In fact, although they call it heel & toe, the name (and their graphic that shows it) is a little misleading. Most people just roll their right foot so that one side of their foot is on the gas and the other is on the break. You'd have to be a contortionist to actually use your heel on the gas and toe on the brake.

i belive that the term "heal-toe" came about because you are piviting on your heal and toe while driving.... (i know everyone right now is doing heal-toe at there desk right now trying to think this out!!!!) and i have no problem just putting my heal on the brake and my toe on the gas... but then again i dont have a stick, so never did that.

I use the my heel on the brake and toe on the gas. I am not that good at braking that way, but I do that when I do burnouts in a manual.

Or a 3 legged man

But seriously its more fun with a girl in the driver's seat too. I control the brake, my girlfriend does that gas and clutch. One hell of a ride!! Old ladies will give you the dirtyest looks too..
