Pics of wide tires on 7inch rims?
Pics of wide tires on 7inch rims?
If anyone could post them that would be great. One of my back tires got wrecked last night and are discontinued so I wont be able to get just one. Therefore! Im getting widers tires for the back
Any one have pics of some fairly wide tires on the early 15x7" Z28 wheels? Any 15x7" rims will do though. I have 215/60s right now and those arent nearly wide enough....
Please post all the tire specs and stuff as well.
Thanks A Lot

I had a set of 295/60/r15 rear and 225/60/r15 front on the 15x7 rally rim. They worked good just don't load down the car to much. don't have an pics till I get the scanner to work.

lol..personally, i think you are better off scrounging up some later model wider rims before stuffing oversized rubber on thoes thin rims.... not only does it look tacky, but it causes the flat rubber part to cup and the tire doesnt wear evenly...

i'd say as a good rule of thumb you shouldn't have tires that have a tread width more than ~2" over the width of the rim, or you're starting to push it. On a 7 inch wide rim, i'd say 235, maybe 245 mm width is about as far as you'd want to go. 235mm = 9.25" tread width, 245 = 9.64" tread width.
Also, it's important that you preserve the overall height of the wheel and tire package as well, or you'll throw off your speedo and possibly run into fitment problems.
the stock size for the 15" rims is 215-65-r15, which is a 26" taller, the 295-60-r15 size mentioned in this post is almost 29" tall, not only can i see that causing serious problems with rubbing, but it throws your speedometer WAY off, like 25%.

245's was about as big as I was planning on going. I dont want stupid huge tires, just tires that "take over" the rim kinda thing. Cause I dont think my 215/60's even stick out further than the rim very much. If at all.
Okay I bought some 235/60's today and they look a lot better IMO. They are not to big but fill up the wheel wells nicer than the last set did and obviously the car rides smoother. I will post pics tomorrow if anyone is interested.
How much could this throw my speedo off? The old tires were 215/60's. Beauty of it is that the speedo was already off about 20KM/H at 100KM/H. Meaning it read 120 at 100. Could this possibly correct it?

the 230/60 would bring it back to 26.1 inches...
If you dont know how to read a tire, the first number is the width of the tire in MM. then the next number is aspect ratio... what i really is that it shows what percentage of teh width is the hight of the tire... so 235/60.. .the sidewall is 60% of 235.. that makes it 141mm. Then divide that by 25.4 (25.4mm in an inch) that shows you how many inches the high of the tire is... double it cause the tire wraps around the rim, and then add the size of the rim.. so 141/25.4=5.6 5.6*2=11.2.... 15+11.2=26.2 so thats closer to what it used to be. I have 215/60's on my 15's and I havent noticed that much of a difference.

stock size on a thirdgen with 15" wheels should be 215-65-R15, so that's probably why your speedo was off originally, the 215-60-r15 was too short.
As al said, it should be pretty dead on now. 235-60-r15, is almost identical height to a 215-65-r15.
if you're not good with the math involved, there's a "tire math" page up on my site poorformance.net, which has some helpers for this sort of stuff. It's under the "TECH" dropdown up top.
