What Does everyone do with there ride during the winter
What Does everyone do with there ride during the winter
This yr I plan on parking my car. But my question is does anyone leave them outside with a car cover, Or store them in a garage? If you leave it outside, which car cover is the best to with stand everything? And does anyone take there wheels off and put your car on blocks to make sure the tires do not dry up. B/c i plan on letting mine sit for about 4 months.

There might be a tech article about this. I read something somewhere... depending on how long you're going to store it, you should drain the fluids if it's for a while.
Personally, I drive mine in the winter.

From what I hear if your leaving your car outside you shouldn't cover it. I guess the moisture gets up between your paint and the cover and the paint which not a good thing. Also with the wind blowing and such the cover might wear the paint on the corners. Even if its not covered, you'll still be keeping it out of the salt.

there are some covers which make the claim to not damage paint and also be good for cars when in moist conditions. I have no idea whether the claims are true or not...but as for me I ordered a car cover from CAR motorsports with the GTA emblem custom embroidered on it. If you're interested in it - I think they have an ad on www.gtasourcepage.com

My car has been stored every 13 years of its existance. The last three have been with a car cover and the the other 10 were with the previous owner (just kept it in his garage). I do not lift the car up on blocks and I leave it on the tires. When I got the car out this spring (right before I wrecked it) the tires still had 35 psi in them. The car sits from late September to mid may, drives about 2500 miles a year, and never has any problems other than a dead battery. You DO want a full tank of gas. The gas will not go bad over a few months and will help prevent corrosion to the inside of your tank (far more costly than a bad tank of go juice). The only thing that has gone bad on this car from storing it so long is dried up valve seals that smoke on start up. Simple problem to fix. Other than that the car is beautiful (well until I wrecked it). I do put bounce dryer sheets in the engine bay and interior because rodents hate the smell of Bounce fabric softener (the only brand proven to work). I had a mouse nest in my air cleaner one year, used bounce and never had a single problem since.

I forgot to attach my sig. The car cover I use is not the best and allows some fine dust through but it blows off once the car goes down the road. It has never scratched the paint. Also get a car cover that can breath and wick away moisture from your paint. I would say that it is pointless to store your car outside in the winter other than safety reasons. Well unless the undercarrage only gets wet without salt.

I drive mine when there is no snow on the streets. But I will not have that problem much longer driving the IROC-Z to Florida this fall and leaving it there in a garage with a cover.

Mine sits in my garage all winter under a car cover. I go away to school, so i have my rents start it and run it for about a half hr once a week to keep all the seals nice and functional
I will try to find a garage to store it if not then it will sit outside, Im buying myself a blazer its mint, 86 s10 2dr, 84,101 miles bright red, 1 owner, all the paper work is with the vehicle since he bought it from the dealer, he traded it in at at used dealer lot and I happened to find in over the weekend just calling around and I have first shot at it. They changed the oil and tran fuild, and added new brakes. And got the motor and tran looked over. Its in excellent shape. They told me they would sell it to me for 1700. I went on Kelly Blue books and look at a private party sellers and at excellent sells for 1,935. So I cant pass on this deal. And the area i live in has alot of hills and I really dont like driving my car in the winter on them, thats why I'm buying this.
Thanks for the feedback

Mine will be on the road this winter unless a miracle happens and I get the rest of my parts and paint it in fall. If that happens I'll be buying a beater or sending my Tempo to the dealer for repair since I can't get it sold, lol.

here my philosophy...
summer= drive time
winter= project time
that way you dont have to drive it yet still enjoy owning a thirdgen. hopefully this winter will be the time to drop the 350 into the bird......

Well, by the beginning of this winter hopefully i can get my Z and GTA running and I can store them somewhere. Last winter was a bad one with me driving my firebird around and that was horrible! Every day walking out from November to the end of January looked like this.
And its not like I could work on them during the winter cause unfortunetly I have no garage. Im prepared for this winter, I just bought myself my first 4x4 so the thirdgens will be safe this year.

i drive mine, becasue i don't have anything else, it is a lot of fun, but dangerous, i usually slide sideways down the road everywhere i go and alot of times, i will just be driving down the road and spin around backwards, and when i go to leave work, it always just spins around the empty parking lot in the snow. it is awesome.
Winter storage
I drive mine. For a long time I ONLY had my IROC, I put all-season radials on it and drove it everywhere. But I also have a set of Z-chains, in case I get caught, and once I did in a WY blizzard! The car has it's own spot in the garage so that's not an issue. Now i have an AMC eagle AWD that's the 'beater' car, so I drive it when the weather is bad, winter OR summer. Nothing beats having a 2nd car to keep your 'baby' out of trouble!

I've gotta drive mine unless theres too much snow and then it sits in the driveway. I live in colorado so there can either be alot of snow on the roads or its dry and 70*. I wish with the new paint i could atleast keep it garaged and bring it out on those nice hot colorado winter days but thats just not an option for me. As my dad says we have alot more stuff that gets garage priveliges before mine does considering we have two car rental places for our 81 Z28 and 76 elcamino. I really had alot of fun wiht it last year but with the new paint i'm going to be keeping the sliding and spinning to a minimum. It's gotta be washed as soon as that mag chloride crap they spray here touches the body b4 it rusts. Hopefuly i'll have my new thirdgen b4 winter hits atleast i didnt spend alot on paint right away so i could do some nice spinning and donuts.
