I've gotten a few PMs about the grille screens, so here's a breif guide as to how it's done.

Step 1: I used APC Universal Speed Grille. It comes in 4' x 1.5' in red, silver, and blue. I used silver, and cut it into 2 squares just over 6 inches. I mean to measure more precisely but I didn't want to take them out again. Mine are a little too large, and distort during installation.


Step 2: Then insert each piece from the bottom with the narrowest portion going through. Once it's up there, rotate it sideways so the diamond pattern is facing the correct way. What is circled in blue is where the base of the screens will rest; on the support braced for the lower front end.


Step 3: Once rotated properly, slide the piece upward into place. The screen on the left pictured below is ready to go. The screen on the right just needs to be moved upward. To secure them, you can either use steel wire or zip ties to hold the base of the screens to the lower front end brace. Before I used small segments of steel wire. However, the front grille pinches them into place so you may not find additional supports are needed.


Step 4: Reinstall the front grille, and line up the screens before securing the front grille. Circled in green is the fog light bar. I initially painted mine flat black so it couldn't be seen. Mine is red and it's sticks out, for the time being I don't mind because it's fresh clean shiny red, but will want it black eventually.


Step 5: Enjoy!

You ougta paint that ram air setup flat or gm satin black inside and out, I think it'd look a lot cleaner. How much for a setup? I'm tinkering with a tube setup that should do the trick but that's a real nice setup you've got.

its so much easier if you take the skirt off... :P thats how i did mine and while its off you can measure it better..and secure it more safely and securely ...i used bathroom silicone..works like a charm..

instead of using the APC stuff, you can use gutter guard, available at most hardware stores and its a lot cheaper to.

Hey guys, if your looking for an even cheaper fix for grilles to replace the originals, here's what I did. My 84 Camaro was missing the grilles, and they are 45 each new and junkyards around here dont have cars that old. SO I was bored and spray paintes a milk crate bottom black and zip tied them in. Honestly, they look great and no one has been able to tell their fake. They look a lot better than open areas and they cost me next to nothing.

Thats exactly how i put mine in its pretty easy to figure out where it needs to go. I think i got the brand of mesh to use off u.Not to good of a pic of it tho ill have to take some better ones.

How did you get your hood to sit so flush and perfect?

Mine is pretty good in the middle but the side stick up and aren't even witht he sides of the front facia.

I did alot of adjustment with the bump stops the hinge adjustment also bump stops on the hinges and the latch adjustment.Its takes a lil while to get it all together right but thats it any lower and it would smack the front bumper and the gap on the sides r perfect.

His grill is a normal Camaro grill that says Camaro. He had the letters sanded down and filled. It was then painted a flat black color and the new SS Silverado emblems were then attached.

Figured I would help out a bit there if you don't mind TPIROC.

The grille material is about $30, however you could use whatever you like. The APC stuff is particularly shiny though. As far as the front piece; I simply sanded the Camaro letters down, and put the SS emblems on (Yes, 2003 SS Silverado) after it was repainted. The emblems are about $50 for each "SS" pair.

EDIT: Yeah, AutoZone, CSK, Etc., carries it.

beats spending more money for the APC stuff, if you want tthe gutterguard to be shinier just spray it with chrome paint or whatever...

i had an idea im probably going to do this winter that is simmilar in theory but completly different i have pics to explain easier but i took them in a matter of 3 secs and theyre awful so bare with me

Pic 1 Shows the fog light area. That whole thing is just going to get gutted black piece, lights everything. and replaced with mesh that goes right accross and ties right up against the sheet metal. my friend is also convinced he can do custom fiberglass so were going to make a ram air box that goes the width of the opening either out of fiberglass or sheet metal if we have to.

i cant figure out how to tie multiple pics into the same post so srry about this.

Pic 2 shows the hood latch assembly and all of that metal is going to be removed so its a big open area and the latch will get replaced with hood pins (is that legal???). It also has arrows to the really crappy area of the air box where it gets super thin...if my friend can pull off the custom fiberglass were going to make an air box out of fiberglass that would go over the whole open area and would be curved it wouldnt have that sudden pinch in it.

pic #3 shows the area of the hood that is responsible for that pinch in the air box and where the hood latch is....were going to cut that section out (not all the way through the hood but the metal in there that isnt part of the exterior of the hood and put in bracing for the hood so we can do the custom box and not have that pinch.

What do you guys think it would look like if you completly removed the fog lights and the black piece in the middle and replaced it with just mesh that met the sheet metal. (black mesh) have to get a photoshop job done so i can see what itd look like.

How i made my grills back a year or two ago was i just went to the local metal shop and got 2 peices of alum. mesh of them for like 6bucks(can.). I painted my foglight bar flat black then i used 4 metal screws with 4 washers to mount the grills to the fog light bar (i put the srcrews an the farthest outer edge of the grills so that when i put my camaro grill back on it covered up the screws).

Your "SS" is looking sick man. Well I know what Im doing the first weekend I get my car back now! Ill definately be doing it the home depot route since im poor and my car now needs a few paint touch ups. Since this pic Ive painted the bowtie body color (sorry dont yell i know its supposed to be red..but it looks cool!) I plan on painting the whole grille body color and putting a polished alum or chrome bowtie on it which would look killer with some chrome grill to back it up. Im kind torn on one thing now tho.

Should I leave my driving lights where they are in the grill or put them behind? Im thinking leave them cause I like how they look but I dunno it look cool behind too... gimmie some insight.

how bright are the lights? If at night time they ReALLy shine through id say hide em behind the mesh.....would make your car look a lot meaner.

I'm very glad I put them behind the screen; it looks way sleek, and pimp when they're on at night. Here's another idea to consider: Cutting a precise hole the size of the fog light so you don't see ANY of the mounting hardware, just the lense, THAT would be cool.

i was just looking att he new eastwood catalog that came in today and they have the grill material in diffrent colors. just in case anyone was looking for other options..same patterns just colored red blue ect..

I had a similar set up a few years ago with gutter gard, which works fine for $5, painted black. Then when I got a set of piaa 1500xt driving lights (best fit for 3rd gen maros) and ripped it out.
Inspired by this thread I redid my mesh with a thin sheet metal mesh preforated with circular holes that I had lying around from another project. (RS grill with mesh on the outside)
I attached the mesh directly to the back of the z28 grill itself by bending and shaping it, then siliconing it in place. Then I just reattached the grill back on the nose with no problems. It significantly reduces the light output so I may have to cut small rectangles for the light to pass, but it looks bad *** when the light shines through.

when i figure out how to post pics again I have some good ones too.

Yea I think im gonna stick em behind, there really not bright at all, they just look cool and it makes the light design look nice on the ground. I really like your idea tpi maybee ill do that once I get everything together the way I want it (as in when I get money =)) Maybee ill paint em body color for now to match the bowtie since im getting the cheap kind anyways.. That kinda reminds me of the newer fourth gens, if youve ever seen one with the grill out they have the same type of stuff in the back, it actually looks better than the grill imo

My bro had them and gave em to me there only cheap 30-40 buck walmart junkies,,,there not bright enoght to see anything with them there more for looks and for others to see you. I put them on cause i got them for nothing so.... and sence my car came stock with fog lights i just used the existing wires. Just to let you know too some lights you buy look blue but do not light up blue it sucks...these ones i got light up white. I do have 100w h3 bulbs here i may try to put in there if they runthe same size not sure.

That's cool.. thanks for the info. I like the idea of smaller lights there to allow a little more air flow to the radiator, and combined with the mesh it looks more aggressive.

Spdfrk, what did you do to get your grill looking so dark and shiny? Mine's all faded. And is there anyway that the ram air setup shown a few posts earlier would provide any benefits for a tb setup w/an open element air filter?

A ss hood might help that but my grill is brand new and it came painted. It need repainted tho they didnt do a very good job.
