Tell your procedure for storing your car.

This is my first year storing a car of any kind. My 92 Camaro will be stored in my cousin's garage and I need to know what direction to go in with car covers as well as anything else I should do before kissing it goodbye.

What do YOU do before kissing your third gen goodbye?

Change the oil and filter, top off all fluids, add fuel stabilizer, air up the tires, throw in a box of air fresheners and throw some packs of D-con around the car. Put the car cover on and wait till spring... I probably forgot some stuff, but I got the basics.

Does anyone have indoor car cover suggestions. What is the best cover for the price?

As long as they are 100% cotton, any cover is O.K.
Stay away from synthetic outdoor covers.

Don't top up your fuel tank, that's around 20 gallons explosive fuel inside a closed garage, a small unnoticed leak, weeks of not opening the garage door, one spark..... goodbuy car and the rest!!!!
Empty the fuel tank, put some fuel stabilizer in for the remaining fuel, and than.... put some Enginewise V2K oil in the tank and you're set!

Wait, so should I be topping off my tank or not? I don't see why the gas should be a concern, it's no different than when we leave a gas can and two lawn-mowers in there for the winter. Besides... my 11 year old camaro does not leak!

I forgot to mention that, don't top off the gas, there's no reason why you need it in there during the winter b/c when you pull it out form storage it will be old, and possibly bad, even with the stabilizer. Drain it as much as possible and do what Digital said above.

I used to have the same mentality unitl I did some more research on it. I think the jury is still out on what works best. personally I am impartial to either. I have read numerous horror stories of guys who have empty tanks only to get their cars out in the spring and have to replace their whole fuel system because there is so much corrosion coming off the inside of their tanks. I don't think that this is a serious probelm for our cars more than it is for much older cars. I have stored my car both ways and haven't had any problems at all. I leave mine about a half to 3/4 full. Everyone on ls1.com says to top off the tank. I geuss it is a fourth gen problem maybe.

How about interior wise, I have heard that both moth ***** and dryer sheets work well for keeping unwanted insects out. Am I going in the right direction with either one?

dont forget to unhook the battery, if there is going to be a short and a fire you wont know until your car and garage are turning into carbon.

Do not unplug your batery. If there is a fire where your car is stored you want to get it out!!!! Trust me

Moth ***** is what I use to protect the inside indeed!
Leave the windows slightly open, though.
Have you read the info on V2K oil, than you know why an empty tank is best! (lots of storing tips on that website!!)
And yes,I unhook my battery as well!
And altough my garage is isolated and dry, I have an electrical air dryer next to my car(s).
Once in a while I move the car slightly to prevent flat spots on the tires and to protect wheel bearings and brake discs.
Also, I don't close the doors, trunk and bonnet all the way,to protect the weather strips.

I'm just worried about that wonderful old lady smell lingering in the car when I pull it out in 8 months

Bounce dryer sheets are the only thing I use. I read a study that said rodents cannot stand the smell of bounce. I had a mouse in my engine bay after the first year I stored it and since then I have used Bounce and haven't had a problem. I cannot believe some guys use moth *****. That has to be the worst thing to use. The smell is just putred. Use the dryer sheets, smells a lot better and fades unlike moth *****.

I dunno if this applies to us.

But I read a long term storing guide for old MOPARsD )

And it said something like "It is not a matter of if the heater core goes out and leaks all over, it is a matter of when"

So maybe cover the carpet in that area.

Someone else might be able to elaborate
