Louvers or Blisters?
I was washin my car the other day and my shamois(sp?) got caught on the edge of one of the slats on my drivers side louver and ripped a chunk out of the side of it. I've always debated on louvers or blisters, what do you guys think would look better?

I like louvers, but the blisters are pretty sweet too. I think the louvers look a little more muscle car/old school, and the blister look more "g machine" ish. Both fit in either case just fine though.
Sorry, this one's gotta be you're call!!!

Yeah, it really is a tough call. The blisters would cost a bit more a piece, and also would need to get painted to match the car... while the louvers I could just order up and slap right on... hrm....
Don't ya just love spending hours and hours contemplating what to do?

I love the looks of blisters on everyone elses car. After finding z/iroc hood, painting, installing, they just dont look as good on mine as everyone elses. Maybe I did something wrong?

When my car was repainted instead of putting on blisters, I had the spot painted silver instead. I had the guy paint all the way to the top of the cavity. To me, it showed up the area a lot more. Btw my car is Purple Passion with silver inserts, silver head light area, and silver lower spoiler. I like paint on mine but my car is an 84 model.
i think the only way blisters look good is w/ the 91-92 wing and gfx.
I like the Louvers alot though. I mean... the louvers is what really completes the look of an IROC.

I like the blisters over the louvers myself....they make the car look smoother...while they still hold that "kick-***" aggressive look. I agree if you had an IROC where I would keep the louvers in the hood.....but if you have a 91 or 92 RS....they would be WAY better then just a flat hood. BTW man...I love the SLP's, they look great on your camaro :

Your car is HOT and would look perfectly natural with blisters. I kept all my 85 gfx and think the 91/92 blisters look fantastic. The louvers are dated, and somewhat tacky (personally speaking).

My $.02... I don't think they look tacky. When you see a 1970 Mach I Mustang with a shaker hood scoop, is that tacky? To me, a person either buys into the in-your-face look of a muscle car, or they don't.
I love both the louvers and the blisters actually. I might switch someday, if I ever switch wheels. But I really like the whole IROC-Z 'look' which includes the stripes, louvers and the original 16x8 wheels. IF though, I had different wheels like are on Hg's car I would probably put on blisters since they make the car look more custom and match with custom wheels.
tpiroc - I happen to like your fender stripes!

I wasn't going to say anything about the "tacky" comment, because it's an opinion, and that's cool, but the whole Michael J Fox comment......
Dude, Iroc's were made IN THE 80's!!!
That's like saying that 1stgens are tacky because they're so "sixites".

Yeah that "tacky" comment is as about as retarded as they come.I don't think that 1stgenners with their SSs would say the same about their fake hood inserts,it's a part of what makes the car an SS or in this case an IROC-Z.

These cars have such a long and broad nose that you need something to give em some life up top. Either one would look cool, although i think that the louvers are a bit cooler. Heck, why not just go ram air or cowl induction? j/k Either one would look cool, if you can't really decide, flip a coin.

So true. Only the louvers make IROC's look like 80's cars

I'm a big fan of the blister! I added them to my flat RS hood
I also own a set of rear window louvers, I had them on for a while, I bought them brand new from Astra. I liked them for a while, but then they would sometimes rattle on the highway and that would annoy me and they were a pain to clean.
So I ended up taking them off and tinting all my windows for a much cleaner look

OK, maybe I'm missing something here. A few of you are saying that Irocs/louvers look like they came from the eighties, and that it's a BAD thing.
So you're telling me that you bought a car that IS from the eighties, yet you don't want it to LOOK like it's from the eighties? Maybe you guys don't actually have louvered hoods, and you'r just throwin' out your opinion...that's cool....but I hate to tell you, EVERY thirdgen looks like it's from the eighties(or early 90's). It's not the louvers.
Go buy a fourth gen.

OK, not to be pickin' on anyone...it's all good. I'm just not sure how to respond. I've been through a lot over the 4 years I've been on this site. The big wings, clear tailights, walmart seatcovers, 86 350's, "good" backpressure, my friends uncle's mother's dad owns a whatever and all the others you can imagine. Never has a fellow thirdgenner accused my car of looking like it was from the eighties like it was something to avoid.
Now look here. HG has a sweet ride. There not many people on Earth who don't know it's from the 80's. The louvers ain't gonna change anything. They absolutely scream MJF/eighties. So does the WHOLE car. And what a kicka$$ car HG, and all of us have. Thirdgens kick butt!!!:hail:

Ok, ok, Abubaca and others have been tearing it up with some good points. We are ALL here because of an 80's based generation (yeah, yeah 91/92 guys too), and are enthusiasts to say the least, correct? And some interesting references to muscle cars and older Camaros; for it would be blasphemy (for the most part) to accuse the purity of the 60’s and early 70’s era “tacky”. It’s good to see this evolve as a discussion, and not a war. I’m just thanking everyone for putting it into perspective as far as being “date-wise judgmental”. I think the problem with most of these “opinions” turn into; “what do you have?” Anyway, just some reflection I suppose.

Lookin for any other opinions... the 2 front pins that had the bolts on them for my drivers side louver broke... so now I gotta figure out what I want to do...

Like I said in the earlier post, I was washin my car the other day and my shamois(sp?) got caught on the edge of one of the slats on my drivers side louver and ripped a chunk out of the side of it... so I figure if I'm gonna rip the hood insulation off to get at it anyway, I'm just gonna buy some new ones.

normally i would say louvers, but on your car I think blisters would look really good.

I'm partial to the blisters as well. I think they're the premier stock hood decor for Camaros. The louvers are nice, but to me not completely congruous with the car as a whole.
