New MAACO PAINTJOB and BODY WORK

Tell me what you guys think. I got the before and after shots. Im getting red birds on the sail panels and the bumper one. Im also tinting the windows.

You call also see that the dent is gone. The door wasnt replaced, just some pretty decent bodywork.

Maaco is like a lil bratt, you need be on that kids *** to get them to do what they are told.

Lee and I did all the sanding, I screwed up by sanding the bumper with 80 grit, took 4 hours of sanding to fix that and still shows a little bit through the paint.

Looks pretty good... Much better than before!!

At least there's less to mask on a 91-92, I've seen a lot of maaco jobs where the bumper inserts on the 85-90's just get painted right over (instead of staying black) and look like crap...

which paint job was it? macco's body work is junk and they over change badly, they told me it takes a hour to do a spot like the size of your palm. have fun if u ever have to deal with a warranty, u will get NO WHERE, except threats, and a large bill for storage.

also, is your car dirty in the pic? cause for new paint its not that shiney. mines like a mirror and its been almost 3 months

The guy from the delearship actually told me to take the car to the same maaco he takes his own cars to. I made friends with the guy who gave me the estimate and the guy who paints the cars. I don't think there should be much trouble. I was on their *** the entire time and I didnt let them give me any BS so they know if i come back with chipping paint im gonna be on their *** until they get it fixed. There is no way in hell im gonna pay 2500 to the dealership to paint my car, not right now being a collge student. The paintjob was the package that comes with uv protection, clear coat and the supreme paint. getting just the paint was gonna cost te same as getting the package so i was like whatever. So far I've gotten a lot of compliments and I hope the paint stays that way.

which macco did u go to? i wonder if they actually clear coated yours. on both of mine they did not. your car doesnt look as shiney as mine. the pic im attaching is on mine after it was painted for a month or so with no wax on it. maybe its just the pics u took that are making it not look shiney

It appears to be quite nice paintwork. Good thing you got a warranty, though, you never really know what they're doing or using unless you're watching them the entire time.

I agree, let us know if something happens within a few months.

It is very shiny, some dust and cloudy weather might be the problem. I can probably get the camera to do the same thing you did with yours. The Maaco I went to is the on right behind greenbrier oldsmobile.

Looks kinda dull or orange peeled, but like you said it could be your camera. Hopefully it holds up.

Hopefully they do things a little differently down there in VA b/c like mentioned above, their warr. is not even worth the toilet paper i use on my very own ***! I have known three people who have gotten "work" done there, and two out of the three of them got rid of the cars right after the work was done. This was b/c they were having a hard time getting the warr. work done. I believe they are like a franchise and hopefully that is the case, but these guys did not give a sh it. A few of the painters were high schoolers with little to no experience, or so it seemed. There was like no clear coat at all, and absolutely no body work. I'm not sure what my other two friends got, but my one friend got the $600 job and it was back there in two weeks. It was the NEW front bumper that was losing paint, after that, a month later the roof started to come apart. All i have to say is stay on them, and trust me, i think you will have to! My friends just gave up and sold the cars. The other guy gets his car redone every 6-10 months! This has been going on for almost two years now. Not too great if you ask me. I hope yours holds up, b/c it will just turn into another one of these bad stories about that place. Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for. later

yeah , i say take it w/ a better camera. hard to tell the paint job w/ such a crappy quality of a picture.
btw, my Z is gonna need a new paint ... i am most likely going to Maaco.
I'd rather not pay 2 grand for a paint job and baby sit my car all the dang time. if you know what i mean.

From the pics it looks alright, although I have been told that many with the Maaco jobs look worse in person.

Must of us know that Maaco are franchises and the quality is different. i went to 3 different ones and this one seemed to be the most decent one after the guy from the dealership told me to go to that one. I mean this is not a show car by anymeans but it looks good, this is just a temporal thing until I can afford an expensive paintjob.

Yeah, it looks orange peeled to me too. Could be a dreary day, but even IF that, you should get shine from it. I'd say the say...give it a good wet sanding, hit it w/ some Glaze, wax that puppy, and you'll be smilin' MUCH more

Why even get it painted then if you don't care? And trust me, $2k is nothing for a paint job. Sure it is a lot of money for most of us out there, but compared to others, it is nothing. I wanted it done right, and so far after 3 1/2 years, i have no complaints! I don't know, thats just me though. if you know what i mean. To each their own.

I HAD MY CAR PAINTED AT MAACO ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, AND I WAS IMPRESSED BY THE WORK. EVERYONE DOGS ON THEM BUT THERE SOME STUFF YOU HAVE TO ASK THEM BEORE THEY PAINT YOUR CAR. I GOT A $650 PAINTJOB AND THAT INCLUDED THE TOPICAL CLEARCOAT. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TOPICAL CLEAR COAT AND BASE COAT CLEAR COAT. BASE COAT IS THE BEST BECAUSE ITS MIXED IN WITH THE PAINT WHILE TOPICAL IS APPLYED AFTER THE PAINT IS DRYED. I LIVE IN AZ AND SOME MACCOS CARRY THE OLDER PAINT WHICH IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE THE OLD PAINT SUCKS. TO SUM THIS UP IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE ONE YOU GO TO. ASK AROUND SEE WHICH ONE HAS A GOOD REP.

Wetsand, wetsand, wetsand, wetsand.

Oh what the hell, i will say it again, some wetsanding will help that out lots.

Not too shabby, does maaco use a base coat\clear coat system? I thought the stuff they used was all mixed.

I paid 2200 for my paint job, 3 years later still looks new. I think the biggest problem with maaco is the life of the paint.

Sure they give you a warranty, but good luck dealing with them.(thats only what i have heard, never had to deal with them personally)

eh my buddy got a like 800 dollar paint job done and its all wavy on the passenger side door, has this weird sort of metalic little dots all in it that dont look quite right not too bad though, and i can see a couple of little places where the paint took badly and its going to chip off and probably start to rust. Then again he only paid 1500 dollars for the car so a 2000 paint job would seem kind of rediculous now wouldnt it?

i just noticed this comment. Cars always look better in the pictures then they do in person because you cant see all of the little imperfections. When i was looking at buying my maro there was one in auto trader asking 8000 and from the pic it looked mint. Went to go look at it and the thing was probably worth a grand. Had just had a new cheap paint job, rust in the wheel wells, haha the car didnt even have a vin # it had been removed! not to mention 100 other different problems. Pictures definitly dont tell the whole story.

MOMO:

I just dropped my T/A off at the same Maaco this morning. Which paint job did you get? When I get my car back (wed, or thr) we can swap notes.

9D1BURD: Maaco uses whatever you pay for, 1-stage, 2-stage, basecoat/clearcoat. It's all ala carte.

I got the supreme paint with integrated clearcoat and uv protectiob plus the value prep. I did all the sandidng myself though. I went inside the place and the people who are supposed to sand the car dont do a very good job.

Hell, it looks a lot better than the sanded pics, even if its not a showroom quality job. Thats prolly what I'm gonna end up doing.

It's when you look at the paint, and it's not particularly "smooth"...you can see many ripples in the paint which resembles the little bumps/dips in an orange peel. Only way to get that out is wet sand until you make it completly flat, then buff it out and glaze it up

Even factory finishes have it, so, if I ever DID get a new car, you best believe I'd be sanding down that paint

LOL... Integrated Clearcoat. That's funny. That's just their way of saying it's a single-stage paint job.

I'm not rippin on your paint. I think it's silly to put a $4000 paint job on a $3000 car unless it's going to be a showcar or weekend toy. The car looks fine.

My paintjob by no means is great...but its decent. What they did do is a good wetsand and buff job...and you can tell. I don't think my camera is any better than yours (trust me the camera that I took these pictures with is falling aprart and old school) and this is about a week after my paintjob with a weeks worth of dust and driving. I say you get a good buff going on and your car will look a good deal better. Don't get me wrong though, I think that your paintjob right now looks real good.

I had mine done there a few years back but it has since been done over.. no problem with the paint just had to repair some accident damage, so had the whole car done..
