Johnny Lightining
Hey guys & girls.....just to make this really easy for you all....check out the Johnny Lightining brand models that are 1/64th scale.....heres the coolest part.....they're doing a promo where you can send in a pic of your own car and if they like it...then they'll make a whole series of replica's of YOUR car with YOUR paint job with a 3x5 pic with YOUR name on it.....AND you'll get 12 of your own models to give to all the ricers who hate on you, hang on your bedroom wall, play with , or give one to the local auto shop you use as your 2nd home!!!!
Johnny Lightining
...then click on "Your cars' the star"

I would like one especially with the silver trims because I was thinking of painting it like my car. I have an 84Z28 that is painted Purple Passion(Toyota color) and Silver. Sounds girly but looks pretty nice. Will get one shipped over here to Australia. Thanks for the info.

I collect 1:18 scale too but have never seen any thirdgen T/As. I have a few newer and older t/a's but no thirdgens unfortunatly. If you find one let me know, so i know where to go to get one too.

Yeah, same here Project_1986_TA...I haven't seen any diecast 1:18th 3rdgen T/As or Firebirds in my 7years of collecting diecast cars. After last year with Sunstar coming out with the 1982 Z28 there wasn't any 1:18th 3rdgen Camaros to be found either.

hey guys i was at radio shack to check out phones and they had thease tiny little r/c cars. most of them were imp#&%@ts but there was a fourth gen firebird and a fourth gen camaro ss then they had uprade and soup up kits and they had a package with extra bodys and it was a different camaro ss and a 69 camaro ss. its cool to still see raplicas large and small of camaros and firebirds even after gm decided to kill of their last true musclecar. i just wish that companys would stop ignoring the thirdgens.

That looks great Flyers- how much time did you end up putting into it? I'm a bit aprehensive about starting mine, dont want to screw it up. Especially since I am going to be putting a coat of silver over top of the molded red.

not real sure... probably a good 5-10hrs. yeah i was scared to death of messing it up... since i already had the body on and everything when i decided i was gona paint it white and i accidentally used lacquer thinner on the front winsheild to get a little over spray off... stuff like smudged the plastic... had to wetsand and polish the windsheild i had my problems... kinda hard not to unless your an expert... but it turned out pretty good i think

Heh, you have to expect some mishaps when putting any model together, but it really does look good. I have a 1:25 scale 93 pace car in progress that I haven't touched in a while, maybe I will finish that up to get some practice before I dig into the big 82. Now that you have it finished where do you display it? I have a feeling once mine gets done my wife will do her best to make sure it lives in the garage

ignore the dust... kind of just pulled it off the shelf for picture purposes and to try out a few more ideas such as the headlight blackouts in the next pic.

last one... For now...
Here's another... i need to get my camera recalibrated.. It doesn't seem to work well on Macro anymore. I scratch built the STB and MSD box as well as a bunch of other parts. I'm a detail freak so unfortunately, this car will never be done.. but I'm open to any other new detailing ideas to liven up my cars over the winter!
BTW.. I had thought about white stripes.. I just wanted to see how the all black car theme goes.. I'm workong on finding a way to make sharp bends in some thin clear plastic I have to make the tail light blackouts. Any thoughts?

If you dont mind swimster id like to know more tips too...post them here too if yah feel cool with that.
i forget if i gave some tips out on this post already or not but ill give yahs all some too im also a detail nut.
- proper use of flat, satin or gloss colors
- To do my 1:24 iroc tail lights they were molded in clear red, so i painted the hole light bar with black and very quicky i tightily balled up some t.p.(cleap non fluffy stuff works best) and runed it lightly over the lights to wipe the paint off the high spots causeing the indented areas to be black (showing the grids). I also used this trick on grills that are molded in chrome, and espesially use this trick on rims
- some parts such as engine blocks i remove them from the tree and preassemble the two halfs and use the knife to get rid of tree nipples and then paint them. If you wanna go nuts you can use a putty crayon and fill the crack up the middle.
- use things such as tooth picks to glue with...to keep from droping big blobs on your model. Also when needing very small amount of paint use a toothpick.
- Ive also used some of the chrome tree as tail pipe ends (because the black molded crome trees looks cool when cut on the bias for the tip like).
- I also save other extra parts and extra decals they give you for the 2n1 or 3n1 kits. And use them on future models. Espesially stuff like wheels carbs and roll cases stuff like that. Throwing that stuff out doesnt make sence.
- when scratch building or moding parts a dremel tool can come in handy
- becarefull when painting things cause i find the color they tell you to use, isnt always the right color from stock.
i have more but cant think of any right now

making molds
Has anyone on here model wise, ever done any mold making or thermal vaccum forming? I'd like to redo my Iroc's tail lamp lenses as the lenses are already tinted and it doesn't help the look I'm after.. i know.. doesn't make much sense since I will be covering them with tinted lens covers anyways, but I'd also like to make a new windshield as well as this one is tinted too. same with the head lamp lenses. tinted headlight lenses look s aweful. hence my blackouts. I've torn my Iroc apart last night to clean up the paint job, but made a mistake.. always write on your kit what type of paint you used.. lol.. now the body is in the stripping tank.. Not sure if i'll go with the black again.. anyone have thoughts on a new color? I have some nice off-white that I like alot.. that with some nice black stripes? or red stripes maybe.. perhaps even some electric blue stripes.. I dunno.. something I'll ahve to think about.. don't want anything radical like sunshine orange purple metalic pearl or anything like that.. mostly solid colors.. I dunno.. I'm gonna look at some more Iroc pics and camaro pics and try to find something I like as much as solid black..
Jamie
BTW.. most all of those tips you posted are ones I use regularly.. I'll post more of what I do this evening.. on my lunch break

well, like i said before i really like the late 80's model Trans Ams and would love to have a 1:18 scale model to add to my collection.I have the 2nd gens and 4th but those dang 3rtd gens are goving me a run for my money.Any help would be appreciated.
-Your buddy, 1-MEAN-T/A
P.S . Call me lazy but i like the pre-assembled ones so if u see any of them lemme know but i wouldnt mind building one.A lil off topic but a 91 model of a grandprix would also be nice.
