Attention Detailers!

I just picked up an 88 camaro and the paint is in real good condition but the previous owner started to wax the roof but didn't remove it. So now it is very cloudy and dull.......This is not my area of expertise (so don't laugh) cause I don't want to mess it up but anyway how should I go about removing it?

Thanks

Just apply a heavy coat of wax.The new wax will soften the old stuff and you will be able to remove it. Same thing goes for polish.

have you tried washing the car?

lol

if not then i would go get some rubbing compound and lightly rub it on there until you "Eat through" the caked on wax. otherwise you might buff it out if you have that option.

Furthermore, peanut butter breaks down wax....so you can do that....my choice would be "JIF" so you can make yourself a sandwich at the same time. i'm not joking either....i take my PB and J sandwiches very seriously

Go get a $13 clay bar at wal-mart...it will take ALL residue off in seconds.

Wash your car with Dawn that will get a lot of the wax off, then I would use the clay bar like it was mentioned and you should be in good shape.. Now the dawn will take the wax off everywhere so do the whole car

try the peanut butter on dull plastics and see what happens....seriously....how is this any different than applying wax....just don't eat the peanut butter after you've used it. Results may vary....but it works if you get wax on plastic mouldings in the cracks, etc.

my customers at my old shop used to think i was crazy, now remember i did all high end classic cars, at classic car wash surprisingly enough. I had a client list of over 100 classic cars for the area. Trust me the PB is a detailers secret, kinda like newspaper to clean windows streak free. Little tips go a long way.

ditto.

Dawn will wash all the wax off... since he jsut didnt do the roof, id assume he didnt do a great job waxing the car elsewhere..

id wash it in dawn.

clay bar it... that will remove any embedded dirt, crud, wax, whatever..

then wash and wax it again.

if the paints good, it will look like new.....
