I think that hood is kind of ****.
But maybe It would be pulled of well on a all black car with no chrome of any kind.

Dont know about the hood man, not trying to add on to all the hating comments on the hood. Do what you like, its your car, if you think its awsome, go for it. I think a cuda paint job on my bird would be awsome, most dont. Personally i dont like it, i like painted hoods.

one thing is for sure....it would be very easy to paint a clear hood....without messing up. It would be a sheet of glass....no debree, no swirls...no maarks of anykind because the paint would be on the inside....it it owuld show through the "clear" hood..

Well, I know a way it could be done. Plexiglass. I will say how it can be done, then say why it shouldn't be done.
First, take the hood you want to replicate off. Take a piece of cardboard copy the size and shape of the hood. Cut it out. Lay it ontop of a piece, a large piece, of plexiglass. Mark the plexiglass with a permanent marker. Cut the plexiglass with a dremel, but leave a good gap between the cut and the marks, because the dremel will melt/cut the plexiglass, and therefore make it opaque. After you sand the edges down, take a blow dryer, lay the plexi glass ontop of the original hood and slowly heat the plexiglass up so it will take the shape of the hood. Don't overheat it though, otherwise it will melt to the hood itself. Then, just use pins to secure the hood to the car, and tada! You have a clear hood.
However, you would not be able to have the engine run very long, you would not be able to have the hood outside in the sun, and you would probably have to make a new hood once every two or three years. Plexiglass doesn't handle weather to well.
I do think it is a good idea though, but it would be tough finding a material that would be usable.

What you would need to do the job properly is a device known as a vacu-form machine, basically a very large zip-loc bag attatched to a powerful vacuum, an original hood would be used as the master mold for the plexi which would be kept under a uniform heat for an extended period of time.
We do this kind of work all the time but not with auto parts; what about keeping your stock hood, cutting out a section down the middle and mounting a 3 inch clear plexi riser?
Now THAT would look sick, plus it would solve a million problems in engineering a plexi full hood that would work and last.
BTW, Ferrari has done all this before, I think it was on the F-40, looks amazing.
Good Luck!

The only company that makes clear hoods is www.streetbeatcustoms.com
But they are mostly for imports. Not sure if they would do one for a Camaro.

I like that idea too. Also I really liked the Supra from 2Fast2Furious (I know I know, keep your comments to yourself). But it had a hood that had like a pentagon type shape cut out and replaced with plexiglass. What do you think about that?

If you didn't mind sacrificing the original hood to use it as a mold, you could vac-u-form one out of lexan. It would probably be lighter than stock too, but if it got too hot under there it would start to soften and sag.
You could also make one out of clear fiberglass, but it would yellow a bit. If you tinted it, the yellowing wouldn't be as noticable tho'

There is a company that makes those kind of hoods but is mainly for fwd imports, which I saw in old issues of my import mags.
Even with an awesome engine I think they are stupid unless for at car shows.
It takes all the fun out of showing people what you got under the hood, and in my case, prevents people from seeing what I actually don't have under the hood.
One thing I saw at a few cars was like "windows" cut into the hoods to show certain parts of the engine, I thought it was kind of cool.

I know this is kinda of Beating a dead horse But what about Lexan to make the hood. One Question though, Doesnt Lexan and Plexiglass and all types of clear "plastics" Cloud up after a while Im almost certain Plexi does. I have to second the comment about loosing the fun of poping the hood. I personally like poping the hood slowly and hearing DDDDAAAAAAAMMMMMNNNN. but thats just me

i think it might be ok, if u had a awesome engine bay with a nice clean engine, just for show tho, but i think a painted hood of any kind would be better than the glass one

I saw a orange supra with a clear hood. It was painted and they left some areas unpainted to look in to the hood. the areas that were unpainted looked like a tiger or something had scratched across the hood. it looked cool as ****. If i could find a person to make a hood in a smoked color i would put one on my car and do something to the same effect.

I think a clear hood is best left to ferrari. Notice they don't have round air cleaners, wires, sensors and a bunch of black plastic showing either.

They use clear engine covers on some exotic cars, one being the Ferrari F50 I believe.
Its a very unique idea...you would need a real real nice engine bay for it too look good...personally, i dont like the idea of a see-through hood on a normal car.
Now a semi-transparent, colored material.....if you made the whole car out of that, that would be freakin cool. Could you imagine a whole see through car pulling up next to you at a light? heh. I wonder if they'd pull you over for that.
Obviously the frame and stuff would need to be painted up nice and spiffy and free of rust. And all the other inside parts you normally dont see. But it would be a very very unique car.
