and yet another 4th gen dash done, plus irocs and aero on my 84 ta

well this past weekend i finally got to work on my own car! after doing customer cars for 3 weeks ahh well pays the bills

anyways, since my cars been taken out of service while im waiting for my 383 parts to arive,i decided to throw my aero wing on my 84,as well as the iroc wheels i had laying around...

got all this stuff done, and decided what the hell, might as well toss in my 96 t/a dash while im at it!

Aero wing and the irocs wheels

side shot in my shop

and heres a few shots of the actual dash swap, yeah yeah i know its not cleaned up yet,its dusty and everything, its about 80% done,in the morning i have to "hardwire" the guages,i ran a schematic test first and checked em all before i cut ANYTHING,i wrote all this stuff down in case anyone needs/wants a "tech article" everything is fully functional, down to the hvac, gauges, and headlight switch, only problem ive had is my tach and fuel gauge wont work for some reason,i got tired and gave up though ill finishthat stuff up in the morning. anyways,on to the pics...ill throw more up later in the week when its 100% done and cleaned up.

speedo cluster

Hvac and pioneer mp3,xm,graphics deck

headlight/dimmer switch

the whole dash/console/seats/spaghetti mess wiring

my seats btw,the drivers seat isnt ripped, thats a screw

side note, these are so pretty they belong in the apearance board polished air gap vortec

the new vortec heads i purchased

another angle

alright, thats all of em till mid or end of week, wutcha think guys?

I also like the wing its very clean according to the pic.. Not a fan of the cambird either. BUT to each his own. Are you going to put the 4th gen door panels on? Is it worth doing the dash?

Nice Job! Love the dash. I'm with nolan on the IROC wheels though. Something about Chevy wheels on a Pontiac just isn't right.

I'm gonna be different and say i dont really like the interior but those rims look amazing always felt the birds looked somewhat like a C4 and those wheels make it look more like that

I am going to do this swap pretty soon. I need all the wiring information you have. I need the speedo cluster wiring for a '90 Camaro, and the HVAC controls. I want everything to work!

Not really digging the 4thgen dash nor the irocs on the 84, but I do love the arewing on there. Its a very nice touch for an 82-84 bird, makes it look a little more custom. Its getting to be that seeing those 82-84 smoked taillights are getting rare. I see them so seldomly that I'm really starting to like them even more.

typo lol,its an 84..

i used a complete rear hatch/spoiler from a 87 formula, also added rear defrost which my 84 didnt come with factory.

and the irocs are only temporary, they will end up on mine and my gf's IROC once i get adapters for my zr1 wheels.

Did you get the 4th gen HVAC to work completely? If so, I think you're the first and I'd be very interested to hear a very VERY detailed report on how. ^_^

Also, you got the tach and fuel gauge working now right?

I can't wait til it warms up a bit so I can toss in my 95 Camaro dash... it sucks not having a garage in 0 degree temps. =\

Quick question: Are there any differences in the 4th gen clusters? (besides V6 and V8)

And... would it make it more difficult to do this swap in a '90 Camaro with the electronic speedo? (90-92) Will the wiring specs still work?

yes my hvac controls work perfectly,i only have it set to switch from defrost and the dash vents though,i dont use floor heat, but everythings controlled from the selector 4th gen switch, the temp switch is used also..

and btw,for some reason i cant get the tach to work, the fuel gauge works,i still have a few bugs to work out,but all in all its well well worth the work.

my 97 console doesnt seem to line up that good with the 96 dash, the console looks as if its too long,so i picked up a 96 console today, didnt test fit it,was too busy with customer rigs.

as soon as i have time, ill write u pthe report for you guys,i forgot this weekend is the Dyno weekend,so ill be seeing how much pathetic HP my 4.3 and my iroc puts down

and to the 90-92 camaro question, ill write up schematics/color codes for all the various years once i have time, gimme a week or 2 though,im hella busy with both my biz,and getting my 383 done

take it easy guys.

I am getting VERY interested in this swap. Maybe I'm just plainly missing something - but when you say that the HVAC controls work, are you saying that you still have Air conditioning and heating function? or just that you can turn the vent on?

btw - everything is looking top notch. Gives me ideas.

as of now my hvac is fully functional,my a/c is still hooked up and actually works, wierd for an 84 huh? lol

when my 383 goes in,im not sure if im going to keep the a/c,i have a non a/c air box,it might end up in the car,im not sure yet,but as of now, everything works just like a 3rd or 4th gen dash would,i have a bit of trimmimg, and modding the stock air box that mounts to the dash, and feeds the vents and everything, but nothing serious.

im writing stuff up on the gauge cluster wiring right now
