Mine has white pearl flames with gold pearl on the tips. It's hard to see the gold in the pictures, but in person it stands out alot. 1 coat of white pearl was done on the nose, and then it fades into 2 coats as is goes down the hood/fenders/doors.
In this picture you can see the gold tips better -

i always thought kandy was an actual paint. like kandy red. where as pearl is a different paint that you spray on top of the base color coat.

I think its a layer of paint, I know to do candy you have to spray the car 3 times, I was assuming it was base, kandy, clear but could be wrong.

Ive always wanted to know how kandy and pearl were done as well. I love my sleeper white, but wanted to add a little depth to it.

Kandy paint,
Base is a highly metallic gold or silver, then a translucent red, blue, what ever, then the clear coat.

what do ya think it would cost to get a full car done in kandy blue?? i mean w/ no prep work.
well i waited long enough but it seems noone else is chiming in so....
a true candy paint is comprised of 2 actual color layers but at least 3 different paint layers assuming your not down to metal. t
my car was brought down to metal which was sealed with a primer base that is purely for the metal. this was a 2 coat process.
a true heavy metallic silver was picked since it could hold more metallic then gold and a selected yellow which is almost brown was added to make the base look gold. leaving the base silver here would have looked very pink when the red was added. this was a 3 coat process.
the second color or layer was actually a red dye....basically a red tint coat that is applied numberous times until the desired color is reached. for my particular combination i chose 5 layers or coats of the red dye.
typically this is enough for most deals. i had a blue pearl overlayed between the number 4 and number 5 layer to make up 6 top coat layers.
lastly was the true clear which was a typical 3 coat deal to seal off the color.
this is all pretty standard on how a candy is made...use silver or gold for the base and there are plenty of dye or tinted clears for color. a pearl is simply small "specs", more or less a top coat that is used over a solid color to give it a shimmer effect.
as far as cost....well it all depends on what your intending. i suppose if you were best friends with "joe" the painter and only paid for supplies you'd probably be somewhere around 1500-2000. however most shops that will even touch a candy and do it right your looking at a min of 7,000 anywhere up to 30,000 and beyond depending on the depth and what all is covered.
here are some basic steps....

alright....the site was giving me problems last night....
here is stage 2 and part of 3. big problem with candy is things can't completely be removed like a normal paintjob so you have to paint things twice to make it perfect. one off the car and then again on the car to make sure the red is even...this makes it expensive and time consuming.

Pearl, it can be mixed into the paint, it gives it a shine and glitter effect.
Or you can mix it into the clear coat, which is the hardest to lay down and if you ever have to repaint your car, it wont match to good, kandy, well that was already explained.

the company donated paint? how did she swing that one?
companies donate supplies all the time, however it's one of the more difficult items to pickup. that is unless your going through a program like stated then they will practicly throw it at you if you have a decent project.

ok, heres my paint,, i picked it out of a book full of chips, its called Vintage Plum Pearl Metallic......this paint has a tone of pearl added to it....the guy at the paint shop actually told me thats the most pearl hes had to add to a paint in a long time. I love the color in the sunlight BUT on clowdy days it doesnt look that good kind of brown kind of like...but heres a few pics showing off the pearl keep in mind its the same car just with the sunlight at different angles with the same camera on the same setings (and its not a 3stage paint is only base/clear)
(not so strait on it looks dark purple, which i love)

(from this angle it looks goldesh kind of red (strait on from the sun)
(heres a good pic were you see alot of colors,,,,kind of darker you see alot of red from bottom gfx and silver/blue from top of car and here you see kind of brown plain indetween with little hints of that goldish/red mixed in everywere

That's the same effect I have on my car too. In the sunlight it's awesome, but when cloudy my car just looks like a plain jane blue. Anyways that color is awesome man & I love the effect you get in the sun, just like mines

thanks guys !!!
Jgolden314- thanks i work hard with polishes and good Meguiers wax to keep it nice. Its not that hard to make a car thats got a new base/clear job look good tho. Also my body man didnt have a nice fancy spray booth system so he wetsanded and buffed the car after he painted it.
Kandied91z- yah but then id think it woulnt look the same,,maybe like in the 2nd pic yah,,, but my car 90% of the time looks like it does in the first pic, just because most of the time your not in the direct reflection of the sun....some also say it looks black. I hate the brown look in it if anything and i was going for a 3stage paint or more in this color id start with some red then lay over gold then purples and tint it to where i like it. But then again i could never offord that unless i did it myself.
acescarrsRS- that must me the characteristic of the pearl it can only reflect light if theres lots on it. I think natural sun light is key also,,,,, as floresant and incadesant lights dont show off the real color of the paint...its lacking the full spectrum.
Your car looks sweet!!! Too bad we couldnt turn the sun on when we wanted...ive had my car in 2 car shows and both days it was almost raining and not a sun to be seen...go take a look at my site youll see the pics from them at the bottom (even tho they are scaned youll see its dull brown look,,and it can look so much better
