Where to get a quality SS hood?

I keep hearing horror stories about ASCD and I love the look of a properly installed SS hood on our f-bodies however im too afraid to order one from them. I hear their customer service sucks, if I were to order it and it doesn't fit not only will i need to go through the hassle of proving to them its not my car, but they charge a restocking fee =/.

I realize the hood will not fit perfect since it is a fiberglass mold, however, I have seen a few that seem to fit on thier perfect and wondering where they got theirs. FlynLow's doesn't seem to fit right, I don't want to put hood pins on the car.

Can anyone recommend a good retailer with A+ customer service who will back thier product up? Thanks.

Well, I hate to tell you, but the SS hood is made by ASCD, so anybody that sells the hood, gets it from them.

I think that they are the only manufacturers of SS hoods for third gen Camaros.

you may have to. heard lots of stories where the wind getting in the headlight pockets at speed causes the corners of the lighter fiberglass hood to lift up.

Well guys i purchased a SS hood from ASCD and im not gonna sit here and talk bad about them, but my hood didnt fit "perfect" either. The drivers side is warped a bit (like almost an inch high!) and it had a huge gap in the front like flynlow's but a little tweaking and i have it almost "perfect" The people that have SS hoods and have them fitting right have probably all done a little tweaking also.

I have no hoodpins and ive ran mine over the 100 mph mark without any problems. Knock on wood

Damn man thats one of the best fits on that hood I've seen! Looks killer, makes me want one! You should put some grill mesh in your grill to match your scoop, and put the fogs behind it, that would look killer...like this.. pardon the crappy pic

In that case, can anyone recommend a good vendor who sells these who can give me some good customer service if something goes horribly wrong? I mean, im not expecting it to bolt right on, i'll take it to a body shop, but if I got a extremely warped side, I want something done, not get the run around. Thanks.

If you do that (if someone else even does resell the hoods) your going to be paying the middle man. Just remember that.

I should have said this in the post before, but, this is what my brother (1badrocz) shoudl have done. He should have tried the hood on for fit before painting it. Then there would have been no problem. I believe they would have gladly exchanged the hood if it had not been painted already (like it should matter anyhow), but I'm jsut saying. Try it on so you send it back in the condition sent to you if need be, that way they can say nothing about it. Yes, his is warped on the (IIRC) drivers side back by the windshield almost, sticks up about a half inch for a length of about 3-4 inches I believe, but you dont really notice it unless you're looking for it. All the same, they shoulda taken care of it in the first place. I'm just saying, play it safe for yourself and you should have no problems. Dont set yourself up for a situation like that and you'll be fine. I say go for it and order one from ASCD.

Well, I remember one post in particular where the hood was completely ****** up and the guy said ASCD would not respond, it wasn't ti'll he posted in a group purchase message they paid attention. His wasn't painted at all. Middle man is not a problem if I get what I pay for.

hey pasky i wouldnt be worried about ordering from ASCD you will get a quality hood. But if for some reason it is defected send it back and tell them you want a new hood or your money back. Just make sure you dont have it painted before hand lol. My painter actually said he could fix my hood oh well looks good i think

I like the quality of my SS hood....but it did have a few little "dings" in it I had to fill with glazing putty.....nothing major at all. I don't have any kind of hood pins in my SS hood yet...but I'm going to be adding a set of hood locks....where my headlight pockets are...it seems that air get's caught there and raises my hood up a little at higher speeds....nothing to major...but my paint is starting to crack very very slightly because of it...so..I'm going to repaint a part of my hood...and install the pins....no biggy.
