the hood fit terribly for the most part....took over 14 hours of work to get it perfect with the underside seams and the rest. the hood is somewhat bowed in the center so it's noticeable on the side....

with all things considered it was in alot better shape then most fiberglass hoods but i really don't care for the typical quality that goes with them. i just need to align it a bit better and it should be ready to drive....

now all that's needed is to finish the motor. adjust the brackets for the corbeau seats and finish the entertainment setup. have the speaker box for the subs made as well as the ampracks and the rest....

about 10 more days and it will be ready to show.

oh yeah well the 25th is setup day for world of wheels here in detroit...there are alot of people waiting to see what's going on with the car and since some know about this site i have to wait to show any real pictures.

everything else is still going on that i told you. the only plans that have changed are the fiberglass enclosure which is still going in but that won't be ready until a month from now so i'm doing something temporary which should look just as good anyhow.

we'll see i guess...

Did you ever think about making your old hood funtional? I plan on doing this soon. I think it would of added a more custom feel to it then a bought hood, and you'd have your factory fit. But I'm sure the SS looks sweet....well when you can see the whole damn car

I would like to know also. I have corbeau seats but have not installed them yet. I heard that you sit real high in them.

no i never thought of making the stock hood functional because all the work really wouldn't be worth it. as "bought" as the ss hood is it still took way to much work to make it work however the weight difference is so nice that until someone makes a stock replica hood that i can put my blisters on i'll stay with this one...

chopped up the corbeau brackets to make them fit....took about 2 1/4" out of them. corbeau really needs to get their act together on that design.

The corbeau brackets were crap? Did you happen to get any pics of how messed up the fit was? I'm debating on corbeau GTS(i think they're the GTS?) or just recovering my stock seats, this would be a major influence.... Thanks.

well actually the ss hood is raised 1/4" more for clearance and has been slightly modified in some respects but it's basically the same. i hope it looks ok when it's all together...

as far as the corbeau seats...the seats fit fine, you just have to work the brackets if you purchase them. they are the cheapest brackets to work with next to 3rdgen brackets that you would adapt to them. most may leave them but i have to bend down just to stay sitting in the car as that's how tall the seats are. if you don't modify them.

started on the new color top coat so i can show you how the front looks now. not to bad, wish the hood fit better though, still needs some adjustment but it's warped pretty badly from the factory which i can't fix without molding another....

to be honest i miss my stock hood greatly but that damn thing is so heavy that even if i wanted to use it again after having this hood i couldn't. if someone makes a stock replacement lightweight hood i may go back but until then it's starting to grow on me. definately alot more aggressive now.

that's a good question and i'm not to sure....i opened up the holes behind the grill where there normally are a few circles so i need to do something. unfortunately that black plastic grill is made to fit so nicely for the hood it would be almost impossible to throw another style and fit as nice. i don't particularly like the black plastic grill myself but it fits well.

what do you think?

I would personally keep the black piece simply because you have the whole black/candy red going on up front with the headlight pockets and the grill.......Chrome or aluminum would look out of place......

I would agree for the same reasons. It fits well and doesn't look too bad. If you didn't want it black, you might could paint the piece body color. However, IMO I think black would be better. Anything chrome and/or aluminum would look out of place.

BTW, the hood looks great. I can't wait to see the pics after its all complete and cleaned up!

Kandied91z,

So what exactly are your plans for the car or was this a post to update us on the new hood? I think I caught on that you ditched the LS1 seats for some new ones? Also did you decide on what material you are going to use for your headliner.

more or less an update to show work in progress...nothing much more.

i'm not sure what i'm doing with my stock hood. i really like the hood and between the cost of paint that sits on it as well as the rest i doubt i will sell it however if i do i'll let it be known. if someone is interested in having a similar color to mine just email me. i'd be happy to send out a paint sample or at least put together a list of numbers so your painter will know.

as far as the car. yes i ditched the 4thgen seats for some corbeau trs leathers. i'm redoing the hood liner and parts of the seats and door pannels in suede. i added a chromoly 6 pt. cage. i am in the process of finishing my entertainment install as well as having the motor rebuilt after my lovely incident with tpis. i've had the wells adjusted and my rear wheels fixed so they are more in the location they should be. i've also gone a bit wider with them.

the only two things i had planned that have been pushed back are the airride and fiberglass pieces which won't be finished for another month or so due to lack of funds and time.

larry, i'd love to have you help me. unfortunately with work and the fact your a bit further away then is convenient timing is a bit hard. i would have you just hang out at the shop though if you like. either way let me know when your coming down to autorama and i'll try to get you in!

what color were those 4th gen seats? i hate to bother you so much about old parts, but if you are wanting to get rid of them im interested. i dont know how you do it, but you car is awesome. what are all the plans for it? so far i see a new top coat, a little interior work and makin it ride on air, what else can you do to such a beautiful car?

i'm not really going to get into it. i've posted things previous about them but many of their supporters chime in with so much backlash it isn't worth it. once it's settled in court with documentation i will have a website about all of their negligence.

sum it up though i built a motor to their specifics with all of their parts possible and not only was it way underpowered but their programming was so completely off it ruined the motor in under 900 miles. yes everything was brand new and yes it was all ruined. had i done more research i would have found out i'm not the only one with the same problems.....

so now to cut things short i've removed everything possible that is tpis except for the miniram which i've had modified so that it actually works and no longer says tpis. they'll never get another penny out of me!

Red87SC i sold the seats along time ago...i had them posted for sale here for over a year. as for what's next. after this not much as everything possible has pretty much been done.

Man I am sorry to hear that. Makes me re-think a potential summer project I was going to start with some of their stuff.

I went ahead ans used a piece of aluminum grill for my SS hood...just because my whole car is black...and nooone could really see the scoop portion....so the aluminum kind of highlighted that area. I just added it over the black rubber piece. This is the only picture I have of it....since the rock hit my hood...it looks alot better...but I'm still going to sand the bad spots down and re-spray them....

I can't wait to see the car at Autorama this year. Even though the car looked great last year, I'm sure it looks better without the wheel spacers this year. How about opening everything up this time. Last year when I passed by, the tinted windows were up and the hatch was closed. Show that ride off. I think the new hood looks perfect. The hood gives the car a mean, "don't f*** with me" look. Not that the car looked "pretty" before, just needed that little adjustment.

yeah i couldn't believe how many people were more facinated by the spacers then the wheels and more importantly the nice brakes behind them......so many people asked me why i would put fwd offset rims on the car that they didn't last long. i tried to look past it and just couldn't bare driving with them as the car reacted differently too. wasn't worth it so that's why i had the new wheels made. i loved the stock 5 star wheels and they where the closest thing i could find in an 18.

as far as the interior.....well it really wasn't finished last year. now it will be so everything will be open. i have a great spot this year too so you will be able to pretty much walk around the whole car rather then just looking at one side. should work out nicely!

those of you who are planning on going to the show please make sure you say hello rather then just walking by.
