shaved gas cap

folks, the gas cap is gone. I already know that it is worth the work. What i don't understand is that some people shave the door handles and leave the ugly gas cap on the car

So are you shaving the handles too? Your car will look even sweeter than it already did.

I agree, I can't wait to see the finished product. I hope sometime soon I have enough time to invest in similar endeavors...

I think our cars look funny with no handles and a gas cap. The side is so long and plain that you need a few things to break it up.

kandied91z: Well, compared to the mod's you have done on your car, it is simple. All i ever did and will do is for the looks only, such as shaving, good paint, wheels, lowering etc. I will not touch the weak tbi engine and the drums on the back will stay too. Since i don't race around (the worst thing to do with a thirdgen 'vert anyway, imo) there is no need to do that. I don't want to act arrogant, but when it comes to LOOKS and STANCE, i haven't seen a convertible on this site that i like more than mine.

For people who like the gas cap so much, why don't you put one on the passengers side, to break up the oh so ugly and long sidewall?

i don't know mr.irocz has the lowered 18's down pact but your rims with his stance would be killer as well as impracticle for driving.

as far as a gas cap on the other side.......well if i needed one i probably would.

can you show pics of how u put the gas door behind that panel in the rear, this "gas door shaving" just spiked an interest for me. also is there any problem with gas fumes in the passenger compartment?

first off i dont think anyone cares if you like it or not so go away so the rest of us who like it can find out how to do it.

anyways post those pics and maybe a tech write up on how to do it....id like to get rid of it sometime in the next couple weeks while im sanding mine down. any help would be appreciated

the flush handles that deadbird did are really a nice touch...ive seen them in person, as i live down the street from him and they look really good. if i could re do it i think i would go with the flush handles over shaved now that i have shaved mine...they are a royal pain at the moment. im to lazy to fix them so i got rear hatch entry haha. if i wanna go race im gonna grab some junkyard doors to throw on...

lol...yeah go away! come on people, no internet "bullying" needed here now. everyones entitled to their own opinions...

a member by the name of redraif also did this as well, look up some threads and you'll find a different take on it. i believe there are some pictures on her cardomain site as well that show some ideas. that is until graboid gets them posted....

that is a good question about the fumes though that i've always wondered. i would think with the cap on it tight there shouldn't be any but your going to get a nice contact buzz after fueling up for a bit.

get those pictures up i want to see them too! should look really nice with the black paint.

lol yes they are, im just in a mood today and would rather not have to sift through opinions and would rather just read how to do it, been one of those days

i have seen redriffs car ill have to look at that sometime today...give me something to do this week

i think the fumes will only be a real problem during the winter, and most of us dont drive during cold weather so thats not a big deal....wonder if there is a way to vent it out through the bottom of the car? put like a little electric fan that sucks the air back outtve the glove box out of the car. wire it up to a switch? sound like a horrible idea?

I could be wrong here, but why worry about fumes. It's a convertible. Do you suppose that the fumes would still get into the passenger area from the trunk? I would certainly go a different route in mine if I was going to shave the gas cap, but that's only because the trunk isn't closed off from the rest of the car.

mine isnt a convertable which is why im kinda wondering about the fumes....i wonder if my idea would work for that....i mean if the fumes were bad you could turn the little fan on suck out the crap and turn it back off?

Shaving is nice... Unfortunely I don't have the resources to do it at the moment.

But...

Is there anyplace that sells a gas door that is more plush with our bodies? I really do not like the little tab that sticks out for your finger, and the idea of it being made of plastic sort of disgusts me. It is like they tried to save money every chance they could

How do you shave things on the car? Do you have to weld? Or do you just fiberglass it all? if you fiberglass it how do you get it so smooth?

Or even if you weld,. how do you get it so smooth.

You are gonna want to weld.

If you want to shave your antannea, compeletly remove it from the fender, then you will have a little... I'd say silver dollar size hole. Get some sheet metal (preferebly same guage or from another discarded fender) and cut it down to size. Then weld it into place.

It is gonna be a little grotesque looking, so smooth out the edges as much as you can with a grinder, then do final touches with body puddy (bondo). The puddy should only be used to smooth it out try to use it sparingly.

there were different gas doors that came stock. They were flush and had a keyhole to access the filler neck. I'm not sure if these were plastic but if i had to guess i'd think they would use metal with the lock.
