Alright guys, a friend of mine, his street name is 8ball, has a family in the auto body finishing bis. He told me he could hook me up with the best deal anywhere in half for a complete strip down and paint. He said pretty much i'd only be paying for the paint.

My car is Chrysler Platinum,



I love the color, but dont i dont really see many cars with this sorta color winning a car show. Can it still win? I mean i can get a complete paint job for cost of paint and thats it, and sooner or later my car is gonna be entering in some car shows once i'm done. What would the exterior really need?

yeah well, i did get my car painted a few months ago, but i'd rather like a very nice paint job than the "good" one i got. I mean it was the best $680 i spent on the car so far. But i can get a show car paint job for less than that and i'm gonna do it. 8ball graduates this year and i wont be seein him so much anymore. So i need to get this done while we still know each other ya know. I'm still a junior(class of '05 represent), so i got another year to go.

I love my paint job in everyway but there are minor impefections that i guess only i notice cause everyone thats ever seent eh car loves the paint job. I get people driving up next to me saying they love the color. I dunno, maybe the color is rare, yeah it is, only two of us got this color. Flyinlow89 and I are the only ones. I dunno if he got the expensive paint job or what but in a little while my car will be super flashy.

I guess when i get the exterior done i need to start matching the interior to the exterior themed colors, correct? The exterior being Platinum and black. Black seats and then go from there. I think might just reverse the interior main color, outside is mainly platinum and little black, interior will be mainly balck and little platinum. What do you think about that idea?

I'd also say Candy colors stand out, bright reds and yellows, flames, and color changing. Blacks tend to stand out also, because it will show how perfect the body of the car is.

Paint QUALITY plays the major part in the paintjob appraisal.....Now tell your friend "8ball" to do a good job and you will win a show, your car could be pink, BUT if the paint had several layers and had alot of intricate details that would catch the attention of the judge, then you are good....

A show paintjob is at least $5,000 for a good one.....a nice one will cost you double that....

 

he guareteed me a perfect paint job or it was free man. My d00d 8ball hes cool. His real name is john but he hates it when we call him that. Hes a big d00d and has a very nice body shop on the northside(the bad side of town), i went there yesterday after school and i talked to the owner and 8ball was there with me and they said i could get it for labor free, cost of the paint only. I was like really? he said why not. Then i was like, is this gonna be a complete strip down sanding and all, he said yeah thats all we do, most people come in here and spend a good $4500 and leave with cars that goto car shows. I was like oh ****....i didn't say that though. Its pretty cool. I just gotta scrounge up the money for the paint and the clear coat. He said prolly around $900 for both of them. I though it was a good deal.

im suprised so many people are in the class of 05! i am proud to say i am the youngest person probably on this board that actually owns a 3rd gen. but as for the topic.

if you can get a show quality paint job for anything less than 1200$ then what are u thinking about it for? done even ask us, u know youre going to do it anyways lol. i want to get my car painted as well, but being that i dont have a job yet, it wont get done until the summer(when the car probably wont see much downtime) so ill haveto drive mom's car. i was actually thinking that 200$ would cover a very nice paintjob, and to be honest, i havnt gotten a qoute for anything less than 2600$ and thats for show quality. jump on the chance while you can, dont let it pass you by.

if you get it done, then they will know that you will come back, so if you need something painted later on, they might just do it for you

damn was just talking to the girl friend and she said how are you gonna pay for that when prom's gonna cost you a little less than a grand. I neglected to tell her the price earlier. Man prom here is expensive, $80 per ticket, $95 for a suit, $600 for H2 limmo, lots of money for a very romantic dinner. I'm gonna be paying out the *** for that, then hurrying up to get enough for the paint. Man this sucks.

Forget the Limo, ride in your newly painted, fly as can be, Thirdgen. You can't drink inb the limo anyhow.... And if she ain't hooking you up, why should you pay for crap that she wants??? I see dozens of H2 limos, A badarse Thirdgen gets more attention.

 

ummmm what she wants she gets or there is no "hooking up" for a month or two. Thats torcher man, you guys know. She also wants a limo so while we are in the car i be able to pay attention to her and not the road.

The thing is everyone's seen my Trans Am, i've gotten so many threats, people said they would key my car, cause they were jealius. I told the deans office and they said to park here right by the security camera, only one for the parking lot and its a peice of ****, so closer you get more better they'll be able to tell who it is. Everyone loves my car, good thing my gf and i got together cause as soon as i gtot he car i was suddenly even cooler than i already was. Everyone knows me at school. You ask whos sahne and they'll tell ya. i leave a legacy where ever i go. My car has made me cause now i can go places, take her places, and just drive. I mean shes's 19 and she still dont got a license; Shes getting it this friday in her new 79 Z28, that i helped her find. Those things are cool and fast.

the thing is i'm on this board atleast 3 or 4 hours a day at the minimum. If you want an admin to check they'll show you the records of when i've been on here, and i'm on here all the time. I do post a lot in my threads due to the fact i keep in touch with my posts. I dont even care how many post i have, what is it, something over a thousand last i saw. I have like an average of 4 posts a day since jun 2003. Which isn't bad i guess. I'm on here more than some moderators. well my and my gf started going out before he handed the car down to me. before i even kne wi was getting a car so i know its not becuase of the car. We've liked each toher ever since we saw each other in the hallway everyday. Finnally we had our first class together then it started.

Now to keep this post thirdgen related, dont ever let girls, and stuff get mixed up with directing funds to fixing up your car. Also never let your girl friend see your pay check. Then she'll know what she can buy and you pay for. I always tell her about half of what i make so the rest if for me!!!!

 

i dunno, a lot of people complement me on the color of my car, maily becuase its only on two thirdgens. I think i'll stick with the color and everything, i will just get it show finished.

WOuld the paint color i got, do good in a car show? I mean with a color patching area everywhere? I mean, i gonna get the car color themed Platinum and Black. Maily platinukm on the outside, little black, then on the inside lots of black, little platinum. Since they dont make many platinum seats i'll have to just do it in the reverse manner. But yeah, it'll be done.

This is getting WAY off-topic, so lets get it back on-topic and keep it there. No non-tech BS.

Bright Red (especially) and Black seem to be the biggest winners at shows. But sometimes the rarer colors also do really good.

is this your daily driver? if so dont worry about a show quality paint job until u have a decent job where you can go out get a beater car and keep the TA under a car cover or in a garage so you wont ruin a show quality paint job. i mean the price is pretty damn good but what if after u get it and few months later they close shop and then your screwed. then that $900 turns into a $5000 job if something happens.

 

Colors don't win car shows. In most cases politics do. If you want to take home trophies make sure you're good friends of the people or an active member of the car club putting the show on. That matters more usually then the how the car looks.

 

Yes my car is a daily driver. However, a show car quality job for $900 is something I just cannot pass up at the moment. I will get this job done, I’m at school right now, next period I see him, I’ll have to talk to him some more. But I paid $680 for a job that will only last as long as the warrantee, 4 years cracking/peeling, and 2 years fading. I got all this for $680, but it is s nice paint job, except it does have orange peel, and I’m not experienced enough to remove it, nor do I have and Polishing compound to shine it back up. I like the paint job everywhere except a small problem area and its because of the prep work done below it was not the best it could have been and when you look at the area at like a 15 degree angle you can see it. Any other angle it’s never there. My car is very nice and all but I’d like it to be better.

My favorite color is silver. I don’t wear anything except silver jewelry; I don’t want anything on my car except silver/aluminum. But if it takes a different color then what I got then I might just have to do this.

Nobody really ever answered my question before, If I get the outside the identical color, and the interior plastic panels painted the same color, the rest be black; would al this match? Just imagine what I got on the outside on the side but backwards. Lots of black and little platinum on the inside, lots of platinum and small amount of black on the outside. Would this be a nice theme? Or would I need to be more custom than this? What would need to be done to the interior of the car to make it match the themed outside? All suggestions will be taken so please post your ideas for outside/inside color matches.

Wow, you need to get out of Wi and try some shows down here, if that happens here more than once people quit going to that show and it dies. I am involved in running two different shows and a very large monthly cruise and we try very hard to keep the voting and classes as fair as possible.

 

well if you do to much of the interior pieces in the same color as the outside then its goin to look alittle tacky and wont look as good. id say if your goin to do the inside with the same as the outside color. do very small pieces but pieces where people will be like wow that looks great even matches the outside. but just dont go doing all the vents, and gauge cluster, etc. find the pieces that you think would look good matched with the outside color and it should come out good.

 

The color you have looks fine but I'd get rid of those wheels,blehh.I bet that you could win a couple trophies if you had nice wheels,a clean engine bay(which I see you have but adding chrome pieces could help out some more) and clean interior(no seat covers and covered armrests).Presentation goes a long way in car shows.

oh yeah more info on the paint job they do-

What they do it take all body parts off the car so they can be glass/sand blasted. This takes all things off the metal for a completely new finish.


The total cost with tax is, $1069.99, that is for the highest quality color, then clear coat, they got.

I guess then maybe just a little platinum on the inside but make them things that people focus on. Like say thew radio faceplate and center console plate, Plastic door panels, and the little vents, oh wait didn't i already do all of them silver?

Nice to know there are some more class of 05's around here. People are constantly ****ing with my car at school; shoe polishing the windows (it stained the paint, grr) and they LOVE pissing on it for some reason. All I can say is that they are lucky that I have a good temper... those stupid mother ****ers!!!!!!!

well next year, i am gonna have full vehicle security, 3 cameras in the car, 1 VCR. That way if anyone ****s with my sh*t they'll pay. I'll get my boys on their ases so fast it ant even funny.

I already got a car alarm, its a Viper, but no paging system and since they wont let me outta class for it either, need some cameras. I'm thinking one in each rear wheel well, and another somewhere else. I migth just need 4 cameras.

My car has never been messed with yet, but when it does they will pay. I park as close i can to the school security camera for my protection. With this new paint job it will be needed even more than before, so these camreas will be going in. And running at all times, school lasts 8 hours, thats one 8 hour tape, when i'm driving, another 8 hour tape. If a cop does something to me he shouln't have, hes gonna be on tape. Also, when i'm speeding i'll have videos already so, better not catch me with them.

My gf, loves my car almost more than me, she brags about the times i take her 120MPH over the dainespoint bridge. Someday i feel she'll get me in trouble by telling a cop on accident. If someone were to mess with my car, she'd get her buddies too to get whoever messed with my car.

I'mthe most well known d00d in my school, and also the most hated. When your as cool as i am, people just gotta hate, they just gotta. The lesser people threaten my car all the time.

well i tried to tell her that by then the car will be aboslutely ostounding, but she was like no. She wanted to be able to sit alone in the back of the limo to do "stuff."
