alright i need some suggestions as i'm finishing the completion of my project my 6 year old paint is ready for an update.
i really like the candy red all one color but it just isn't enough to compete in shows. i'm thinking of some sort of two tone scheme still using a candy red but possibly a black with red pearl or another color thats darker......something in line with the popular boyd hot rod paintjobs.
any suggestions on schemes or preferences would be appreciated. i really don't want to ruin the look of a good solid one color but it's just that much harder to stand out when it comes to shows and getting sponsors. i don't want to do flames or some wild multicolor paint. just something that is somewhat of a classic look but with our cars its rather hard.
should i just stick with the solid candy or step it up a bit?

also as an idea i thought that which ever color was the lower half i could use as the stripe or stripes off the ss hood.....all just ideas anyhow but i would like something that stood out a bit more.

i would stick with the solid candy red personally i think it looks awesome. but if your going to change go all black with a pearl... or some sort of blue color, something that nobody else has, or very few. or go with boyd's red and some pearl or something in it, i saw it on the hot rod show about boyd coddington's shop and i guess it's easily available.

I like the red sides with the black top. It would be neat if you had it like that and then a red stripe just on the top of the scoop and one the same width on the deck lid with the silver accenting it. There was a super chevy give away car that had a similar paint job that was a little more intricate that was purple, silver and white... I've got the mag at my parents house I'm going home this weekend so I'll scan some pictures for ya.

Kandied- you've got one of the best looking cars on this board, please don't change it!!!!!! Stick with what you have now, it looks incredible.:hail: :hail:
i think those photshops u made look ugly, sorry. your car looks so nice now., but flames or stripes would be so sweet and just finish it off. i have always liked the manta stripes on the ss hood maybe a black pearl or a white pearl would look nice.

one of the biggest problems i have is cutting the colors off at the hood. i don't like how from the front it looks like you have mismatched pieces. if i were to go that route i'd have to figure out a way to encorporate the nose and hood together so that it didn't look like the picture.

here is a not so great photochop the side stripes turned out decent but the hood was hard to do. personally i would move the stripe closer to the side marker and a little farther away from the headlight.

I also think the red sides with a darker top would look best. However, I wouldn't go with black. I think a darker charcoal color would look really good.
black would be receptive to the red pearl which in turn would almost give the candy a fade from a black underside to a more prominent vision. when you look into a candy paint job you can almost see as if it has a black pearl into it.......basically flipping the effect by fadding a black with red pearl. i need to test shoot some small pannels to really see how it would flow together.
The top pic, with the red bottom and black top, looks alot like the Lexus IS430 Prototype (below), made by Rod Millen motorsports, the paint was sketched by Chip Foose, and I'd say he knows his sh*t.
I'd say to keep it all soild candy like it is now, and put on the stock hood again. But since your trying to win shows, use the fisrt design. I'd also say no stripes, but again since your trying to win shows, use the same paint you have now as both the stripes and the bottom color. I'm not sure what would be better heritage style stripes or the one that was MSPainted above.....hmmm I haven't PS'ed your car lately....

Well I hit the photoshop up, got a couple concepts
Simple Two Tone, with the front bumber partly black like you wanted, can't really see it that well, becasue of the rope, but it starts/stops right below the headlight pockets with a silver pinstripe seperating the two colors
Same kinda concept as above.
4th Gen style stripes to go with the SS hoods lines
3rd Gen style Stripes

Please note I suck at making lines in photoshop so my stripes aren't the best

Interesting concept...
I liked the Kandy sides and darker top, but I think where you split the colors should absolutely NOT be straight. The color change, weather you use a dividing stripe or not, needs to follow the lines of the car (nose to top of fenders, top of doors, etc).
The Hood stripes should also be a form that follows the lines of the car. By using sharp corners, it makes them look kinda clumsy, not flowing. The idea is to give the car a look of speed standing still, and that is with "visual flow". Notice that there are no really straight lines on the Yenko stripes, they follow the lines of the car.
I would also keep in mind that, from a distance, the contrast between the black and Kandy divides the car. Even if you run lots of pearl in the black, from 20 feet away, it will be almost invisible, and the car just looks hacked in half visually. More black in the red or more red in the black? (Just my opinion, please no flames!)
Use Photoshop and play away. It's far less expensive than repainting again and again :-) Good luck!

I like the 3rd gen stripes alot too, it would be killer if you could somehow do like red ghost stripes or just have it not as dark or a black pearl on the stripes

my opinion is to combine these two pictures. have it just like the photoshop tpiroc did, but instead of an all black hood, have the silver and maroon on it, and the silver and maroon on the wing.......i think that would be a killer combo, but i'm not too keen on the look of the front clip changing from black to maroon. i can't photoshop, but maybe the the front of the nose black? the rest of the nose (that wraps around the side of the car) and the bottom half of the car maroon but black in the front

The black on top with the slight line to make the change looks good, as long as you can get that front end integrated into the scheme. Change is good, everyone that says dont change it will be drooling when its done! :hail:

yep exactly like that...the only thing that looks out of place is the nose...there needs to be a better transition and it would be perfect IMO
*wonders if this is anything like what Kandied is looking for, or if we're just creating a car that we all want!*

hard to explain but on the rear quarters where the silverstripe meets the tail lights it should follow the taillights up and run across the bottom of the decklid so as not to give the appearance of "mismatched body panels" as you said you would like to avoid
maybe this will help

wow guys i disappear for a day and you all have some really great responses.

as i stated i'm not sure what i'm going to do with it. i absolutely love the kandy paint and its properties in the sun as well a color changing at night so i plan to keep the color in some respects but i'm just not sure how i'm going to do it. i like the ideas that i'm seeing although the nose transition is what bothers me most. i just can't come up with a good way to make it work. i also sort of see the point of how the black would cut the cars dimensions from a distance. however the black if used would be thinned so that it was layered over the candy red then sprayed with a red pearl so in essence it would be black but not a true solid black....more of a darkest candy fade possible.
anyhow everythings still up in the air. i'v also considered using the base silver or a graphite on the top instead so you don't have such a defining line.......guess i'll just have to wait until something comes up. thanks for the help everyone, please keep the ideas coming!
