Car back, im not happy
i got some stuff done on the engine and i thought everything was okay. i get home and parked it and when i looked at the back of the car, my hatch looked like it was open, so i didnt think anything of it, but when i tried to open it, the thing wouldnt open. i opened up the car and hit the trunk release. that didnt work, by this time i was gettin irritated knowing that the guys slammed my POWER HATCH! i pulled down my awesome license plate and unlocked the trunk....they are lucky it opened, i lifted the hatch and set it down and let it close. i was almost in tears knowing that someone was so careless with my car. then i looked at my front end
the guys cant drive either...they hit something with my nose, right on the corner by the headlight pocket, they tapped something with it and scuffed the paint really badly, and some chipped off, what do you guys/girls suggest i do?

i had my tranny rebuilt a few years ago.. i had the guys at the shop drop the car off outside my work, about 3 buildings down the road... i came out after work to find the car parked into a 3 foot high curb.
it was actually still sitting up against the curb. i couldn't believe it! i had 4 guys from my work come out and witness the damage for me, and then we pushed it off the curb.
i went over and spoke to the manager, and he had me get an estimate on the body damage. i did so, returned it to him, and he agreed to pay for it, after i had informed him of my several witnesses.
i ended up with a mint front end. i had to pay for some of the repair, because i had spider cracking and i wanted the whole thing stripped... but it worked out well in the end. try it!

sucks man Insist that they fix it, and when they say they arent responsibe have a lawer insist they fix it. I always walk around my car when I have work done and check for crap like that. I've yet to have a tire shop not make some dumb mistake like. I have one mechanic I trust with my car if I don't have time to fix something mechanical. But tires are another story.
So far one shop bent my fender mount. (fixed at body shop and mounts repainted they paid for it)
One didn't use rubber pads on the lift and scratched the **** out of the paint on the frame rail. Made them pay for the paint to paint the rail.
minor no big deal things
One put the rear wheels on the front and front on the rear.
And when I had my old wheels they were directional and I had right and left wheels and they swaped the two front ones.
yes I know I am a picky person but hey its my right to be when I am paying someone to do work at 50 an hour they can pay close attention.
I step off my soap box now and go back to work lol.

what you do is put a bloody louisville slugger in the backseat the next time you take it to those guys. you can even put a little ASE imprint on it for effect. if you have a "crazy look" in your eyes that helps too. :lala:

the guys being the mechanics. i might be selling the car, so im gonna get them to fix everything first, so i can get the money and fix it myself, then get some extra cash. they also bent my hood latch, so looks like thats getting fixed.
if they dont fix all the stuff, they are gettin a nice little call from a lawyer, enough said. i dunno, would it be possible to blame some dints on them? i mean it would be better to get a lot fixed right?

Hell yeah threaten them with everything that is wrong with your car, tell them to fix it or they will be hearing from your lawyer. I was just involved in an accident where my Dodge was totalled, it was the other guys fault and i'm am getting like around $1400 out of the car, whereas I only paid $500 for the car, so yeah drain them for all they're worth.

dont threaten them with having to pay for dents that were already there... just go to a body shop that will write them into an estimate

Take the car back to the shop and talk to the manager in a calm manner ASAP.
There is a statue of limitations. One, if the hatch was working before they touched it then they WILL pay for it. Most business' don't want the bad news from that. Specially if you bring the Better Busines Bureau in on it.
And if they don't quake in there booties over that then write to your Attourney of State and file a complaint.
The BBB can only black list people, the AoS however can take them to court. Often the threat alone is enough to make them settle out of court generously.

well, the other side of the story, as i'm a so called ase mechanic at a gm dealership. you wouldn't believe the customers that want to blame the mechanic for everything wrong with the car "it wasn't like that when i brought it in". i agree some mechanic's are careless, and don't treat the customers cars properly, but there are also the same kind of customers that want something for nothing. as for calling your lawyer, we've been threatened before and laugh because we know we were in the right. best of luck, tom

ROFLMAO I love it!!! When I worked at a dealership, people would ALWAYS try to scam us out of free work. My favorite one was some lady who ordered a right front axle for her car. I replaced it, but in doing so, caused the entire exhaust from the 2nd cat back to rust up with holes and everything.

If they truely damaged something, go to them calmly and give them the chance to make good on it. Explain about the power hatch and point out the chip in the front nose. DON'T try to get them to pay for every ding on the car!
Not only because it's dishonest, but also because blaming them for every flaw on your car will make you look like you're BSing them. Then you'll get nothing without an ugly, drawn out fight.

id let someone smash up my car before they touched my girlfriend, i hate to say it, but my girl is more important to me. i love my car, but she is more important, and yes, i do spend equal time with both lol. as for the damage, i just want what they did fixed. when i washed the car, i looked at my fenders and there are some nice deep scratches on both front fenders like someone dropped something and tried to catch it with their knee. looks like im gonna try to get my whole front clip painted, that or ill get the money and put it toward a new paintjob.

Guys, let's get our priorities in order here! If you're in a serious relationship, I hope that you don't really value your car over your girlfriend! I love my bird (I'll love it more when it's running), but it can be replaced if something aweful happened. I can't say the same about my girlfriend. But hey... if you aren't really that into the girl and just having fun, the f-body can be your true love. lol.
Anyway, back to the topic. Did you talk to the shop about it yet?

My car will never sleep with my best friend and my car will never leave me, take me to court, take my girlfriend away and sell her.
I know true love but women are very very volatile equipment. Even the best ones. once pissed off, oh man will they destroy & take away everything you love just for spite.
Hang out in divorce court once. Women are very very spiteful creatures. And they are all angles like yours in the beginning.
Its true, women are of the devil.

Did they ever pony up for the damage???
LOL, I like the No Ma'am avatar that went with that last post.
I will be clear about my position; I'd rather let someone TOUCH my girlfriend than touch my car. If you're talking about something truly serious like life threatening situations, then obviously the car is just a car. While I'm not as one-sided as Gumby here, I do agree that many women are as he describes them. Still, there is always someone for everyone, even a girl that will love and perhaps put up with Gumby (don't mean to pick you out, my man, but your post is great), and that is something I believe in and pursue.
So before this becomes a big fairy gush-fest, let's get back to the point... CARS! POWER! FUEL! RUBBER! TORQUE! FIRE! ROOOARR!!

Gumby is one scorned dude! I've been there though and I'm fully aware of the jealousy and spite that girls are capable of. And yea, sometimes you do feel more loyalty from a machine as insane as it may seem. But kinda like CaysE said... Give me FUEL, give me FIRE, give me that which i desire! Ohhhh I can't wait to play that song in my bird

yeah that sucks about the damage they did, that happened to me when i had a huge dent in my door fixed, i got my car back and there were scrtaches and paint missing all along the bottom, like they drove over a curb or somthing, the only is u may have screwed yourself by not noticing the damage at the shop, cuz there may be no way u can prove that they did the damage, good luck tho

The simpliest way to proove that damage was done to your vehicle while it was at a shop is by taking detalied pictures prior to giving them the car. That way you have proof that your car was undamaged when you droped it off.

Someone will take it for a ride. Pepboys in not in Toledo anymore cause a non-licensed mechanic took a mustang for a ride and trash it.
Couldn't take cars or bikes for a test ride at tech school for the same reason. Some yo-yo rolled a customer car 3 times.
I don't even trust the guys who drive my car 50 feet into the garage to do tire work.
Like everyone has said, take it back up there and tell them what is the matter.
I hate letting other people work on my car. I just painted it last thursday and here one of these days it's going to have to go to a shop to have the tranny rebuilt.
Whenever I take that car somewhere, I call every 2 hours if they havent called me to inform me of what is going on. If it's a tire shop or the muffle shop, I'll stand pretty much right in their way, giving them the deathglare from hell, until they're done. Even if you get a bad feeling about a place, get back in your car and exit the premisis.
I know the exterior of my car and if I see one thing out of place, I get someone else to verify what I'm seeing and then i go and raise cain.
Take pics of the damage in case they dont want to pay. Good luck.
