interesting paint scheme idea
interesting paint scheme idea
I was thinking up paint schemes and came up with something that, as far as i know, is somewhat unique. I was considering painting the car artic white. Nothing special there but my idea was to put two candy apple red stripes down the full length of the car. Not like the 25th anniversary paint scheme. I want stripes that start at the front ground effects panel, go up the grill and front fascia up the hood, over the roof and down the back of the car. And, heres the kicker, instead of painting the headlamp pockets black or white, paint them the same candy apple color as the stripes.
Is this a unique idea or am i delusional? Anyone have pictures of a car with stripes like i mention?

please don't use candy red for something like that....
a beautiful peal white with candy heritage stripes or a similar custom design would be nice. solid plain stripes bumper to bumper is a bit much....reminds me alot of a car someone in highschool would drive.
here is somewhat an idea of the stripes at least...
ohhh....the humanity. stripes like this not only look unfinished but they look like they were done rather quickly often times making the appearance of the car not quite as nice as it could be. this yellow car for example is beautiful and the owner in their own right should do their own thing but a set of custom stripes or even black heritage stripes would really make this car look 100% better. so sad...

Wow. If I didn't know any better it seems like you just have these pictures laying around...Bruce (90RS305)
when it comes to appearance i have a virtual catalog custom automotive pieces....alot of thirdgen related things as well. i have at least 20 more cars with this same style done however i don't want to waste space.
that yellow vert didn't look bad from the front but it looked like crap from the back. hmmm... It seems to me that in most of those pics the stripes weren't wide enough, IMO. The silver car is more what i had in mind. maybe not quite that wide, but i think that car still looked good. I still like the idea of the twin stripes. Whats the deal? Not many people like candy apple?

I know that guy, have seen him at the same car shows in St. Louis. That is a really good looking car in person and has twin turbos under the hood. I have at least three magizens at home that the car appears in.

Kandied91Z: i remember seeing a first gen somewhere with checkered flag stripes. I am considering it for my Z and wanted to download it to show to the paint shop. Would you have it in your files?
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
Im just trying to come up with ideas that would make the car more interesting, visually. I like the body design, so im not really going to change that cept for maybe some 2nd gen style vents on the fenders, but i want to do something interesting, and maybe, different with the paint. Im not looking to be completely different here... just interesting and not too common.
I find that most people who start customizing their car worry so much about being different that they forget to make the car look good. Im trying to avoid that.

i guess i'm in the minority, altough i didnt know i was until now, but i like stripes going the full length of the car...well at least up the front bumper and down the back..i'm not sure about across the roof...but yeah i personally prefer body-length stripes to heritage stripes or other ones
if you get body-length stripes, don't paint over the grill, just skip over it, an DONT paint stripes down the rear hatch glass like in the first pic!!

well the first pic has louvers on the rear so that's why they are painted...the theme is carried.
personally, well all of you know what i think! the yellow car is indeed a nice car no doubt, it's just ruined in my eyes with the stripes that go the way they do. looks like it took very little effort and imagination....just woke up one day and said lets run a paint roller up the car. very unclean nor finished looking.
this hits it right on the head. as far as the candy color...most people love the candy color however it's very expensive to paint and typically if your going to do it you wouldn't just do stripes as they would stand out so much over the other paint it would look rediculously out of place....
CDN_87IROC is this what your talking about?

OMG that looks good.
BTW, I can understand what you mean about them looking out of place. I had never seen stripes like that on a camaro and im beginning to realize that putting stripes on a car isn't as easy as getting a paint roller out, lol. I can see, from the mistakes of others, that it must be planned out and thought of carefully
LOL, im well aware that candy apple is extremely expensive to paint. I used to have a Poppy red 66 mustang, a kinda red-orange color, that i had painted candy apple eventually. The paint/body bill wasn't pleasant but it was worth it once i drove the car to school and the kids with the BMW's were jealous of ME. But, i realized the evil of my ways and now drive chevy, lol.
I can't get over how good that yellow vert looks in the front and how bad the back end looks.

idea on checkered strips....
Personally, I think that a cool idea to get away from the normal idea of checkered strips, would be to incorporate the "magnifying glass" effect and bigger "checks(what we'd all like from the IRS!)/squares"...i think it would give a cool distored effect and obviously it would be more of an original thing to do and more of an eye catcher!

P.S-I'll try to post some pics of this idea ASAP!

NOT the best quality photoshop pic....but it gets the GENERAL IDEA across i think. You could also use bigger or smaller squares, and they'd obviously be flush with the sides of the stripes.
Let me know what you think of this idea!

i think that looks alright, but yea more space between the stripes, and i wouldn't want the stripes to stand out so much...i think it would look tacky having giant black and white checkered stripes.....if you had ghost stripes, that were lighter and darker shades of your body color, done in the design you did, then that would be pretty nice

well, the pic is just one that Jeff posted and I just wanted it to use as an example. Personally, i'd put at LEAST 5-8 inches between the stripes......that way I'd have room to ghost the outer edges of the stripes so that they look like they fade in.
Thanks for the comments/suggestions though! Hopefully this will help someone out and maybe even inspire someone to use my idea.....ok, so it'll probablly end up being me....but not for some time!
