tailight blackouts...again
well i have some free time to put some things on that i have and i want to finally mount these blackouts. my question is can i apply heat to this "plastic" and be able to bend the edge? the problem is that they are about 2" to long and extend over the licsence plate area. it this plastic bendable with heat or should i just cut the edge off? here is a pic of the problem area.

who made thoose? gts or wade or ventshades or whom?
I think you could heat em w/ propane torch and lay em on somthing firm and rol em over. or cut em off.

i believe these are a really old gts style. i bought them off a guy that said they were bought for an 84 and i assumed all thirdgen camaro taillights were the same length. i guess i was wrong but i got them cheap.
so you dont think i could bend them? can i take a dremel to them with a cut off disk? do these plastics crack easily?

They don't crack to easy. They are similar to Lexan, which is extremely flexable and impact resistant. Take a peice of 2" masking tape and cover the areas inside and out you plan to cut (to protect from scatches), mark your cut, make the cut, and finally sand smooth.

I've seen plexi bent before. You would need something to form it around like a mold or a 2x4 and a heat gun I've seen used gotta keep the heat moving and try to bend it easily but it could crack or break so cutting em might be the best bet.

Dont heat it up, it will ruin the finish in that area. it will become foggy and un smooth. you should be ok to cut it and then use a long file to make sure its all nice straight then sand it down for a nice finish (only the edge)

I was telling him how to bend it because that's what he originally posted about if he could bend it around so I told him the options since no one else would they'd only say cut it off which is also what i said was his best bet unless he wants to chance heating it up.

I don't see bending them as a alternative. They have a lip that rolls underneath of them, and that would distort if he trys to heat and roll them.

lol it's cool man.
I love the look of the licsense plate cover and al so its black all the way across but i couldn't do it to mine we have rear plates here and it wouldn't work we don't have to have fronts but I think they'd gimme hell over having em on front and not back and if I had the solid cover I'd have find a new place out back to mount mine.
