Homemade clear front runners **pics**
Looked at a guys how to for them a few months ago he had a maroon iroc cant remember the name, havent been able to get online and wanted to do em so went ahead. I cut the stock lenses off and the inner lens out and sanded the bezel flat then cut out 1/8 plexi lenses and ground them to the right curvatures on the grinder glued em on siliconed the joint and painted around where you could see the glue and sealer through the plexi. The look so sick, this is the best homemade mod i think i've ever done. Couldnt kee the stock chrome bezel color it was trashed so just painted em an aluminum color.

I'm gonna say I don't like it...I don't like how you can just see the bulb right there...needs some sort of diffuser.

Looks a little tacky!! Sorry bro but I don't care much for those clear lenses showing off the stock bulbs. Of course everyone has there own opinion. Looks like a lot of good work went into them though, looks clean. How about this though...remove those lenses and sand blast the back side and replace those stock bulbs with a LED color of your choice. That would give you a sort of indiglo glow. Or better yet leave em clear and mask of some sort of design like a bowtie in the middle and sand blast that area so you'll end up with a clear lense with a glowing bowtie.
Yeah Silver paint should do the trick, but if it dosnt work out you could try the Supermax Stealth Chrome 1157 bulbs. They glow amber, but are covered with a chrome finish that matches the insides of your enclosures. They were made specifically for clear taillights.

I had mine like that for over a year, but not with silver paint...Still chrome on the inside. Now when I cut and installed my billet grill, I used all the left over billet bars and made mini grills for the lights....Now I like how it looks!!

WEll then why not just get the stock ones seeing as how thats what they woulkd look like. Thats the point to look different from any other camaro. The bow tie idea in the center is kinda cool though i may play with it a little

If you like it don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
I like the overall look but I think it would look alittle better if you could somehow set it off. Not sure how though.
I'd just like to have a diamond/clear cover instead of the tinted amber one. Plus mine leaks and is full of condesation.

what about if you put the plexi on a mill, and cut a few thin horizontal lines across the back of it.
thats what the OEMs do to break up the flat clear sheet look of some light housings... it makes it look "modern smooth" without it looking like just a sheet of clear plastic...
it'll also cover the lightbulb.

Looks like you were talking about my car...thats my page above and my iroc is plum close enoght to marron i guess haha.
I think it looks good for sure,,,, i think what is throwing everyone off is you black border you painted on isnt wide enoght on the sides to cover the ends. Also looks like you painted the houseings with chrome or silver paint. I hate that chrome paint for the simple fact it never comes out even close to the cap. For ppl that want to paint theres cause the factory stuff is wore off look at this link ive never tryed it but i "hear" is better then the chome "like" paint.http://www.alsacorp.com/ChromeFX.html
Everyone else that doesnt like it has to realize before i did mine i had lenses that were majorly cracked and foged up soo much you couldnt even see the ugly amber defuser. Some lights came with clear defusers and were nicer looking. So instead of paying 56bucks can. each for new lights i thought id do this almost free mod. So you cant blame a guy for makeing his car look better for free. Sure i wouldnt mind having a brand new set of (clear defused) turn lights but i think mine are just as nice, and i saved myself over $100.
Mine fog up alittle still not very much after i did the light recall mod on the TGO tech. artical pages (cutting notch in ft nose piece). Also about every 2 yrs or so looks like im ganna have to take them out and rince them out...they get dust inside but not very much. I personaly like the clear look..all cars nowadays are switching to non defuser lights and IMO i like it.
heres a pic of mine now with blue bulbs....

That was your name i couldnt remember it from a few months back. Yours look real good apparently the certifit out here has em for liek 10 bucks a piece so i may get them to get that chrome inside. I hate how the chrome paint looks to so i just painted them a krlon aluminum color. Mine stock had the clear difusser but that and the lense had turned a foggy brown color over the last 12 years so i blacked em out but liked how the clear look better.
Yours look real nice man i have a set of clear bulbs laying around here somewher i may try like a blue bulb though.
I'm diggin that grill too!! I got that stuff at the shop may have another free mod coming.

As I sit in an office reading this I look up at the flouresent light grids on the ceiling and BAM it hits me, the grid pattern plastic would be a perfect difuser.
Crazy-
Those chrome/amber lights you mentioned tend to loose their chrome after a while. The Osrams are a little better, but they do it too. Turn amber that is. I wouldn't recomend them.

ohhhh yah thats right i think they started making the turn park lights aftermarket just a few months ago..cause before that i couldnt find any (except gm)...now they are all over ebay.
mm about the floresant defuser that would be a good idea for ppl with fogged up lights and dont like the clear look. Id still rather my (non defuser) clear look it matches my high beam spot lights, and semi clear h4 low beams.

I think its too clear...you need to blur up that clear lense and put a clear bulb in it...almost like how it was when they were yellow, just clear instead...just so no one can see the bulb...otherwise it will look like it does now...and im sorry to say man but it looks like your car has orange nipples.

I did a bigger border on mine painted to match the car color...Quite frankly I dont like how the stock looks and thats why I did this mod...But everyone here keeps giving suggestions on how to make it look like a stock lense? I mean mine has billet grill over it now so you cant see alot of it. But I liked how it looked... I mean just look at jcurrieirocz....Thats hott!

I don't think people are telling you to make it look more like stock per say, but more finished....the way it is now just looks like it has something missing. It might work for you and thats fine, its functional so it works...nothing wrong with that. Although I must also say that I don't like jcurrieirocz either, he has two bulbs on each side just showing like that, so I might say it looks doubly bad....nevertheless its only my opinion.

a simple way to make them clear but not see thru is to blast the inside of the lense.
sandblasting will give a very frosted look, while plastic blastic (if done not tooo hard) will just give it a clear but difused look.

i have had an idea to take a clear plastic like that, except have a whole bunch of etches of some sort on the inside of it, and run LED's all around the border, (out of view of coarse) and when u turn them on, they would shine straight through the plastic on the sides, and reflect off all teh grooves, giving the effect the plastic cover itself is lighting up.

The more i look at jcurrie's the more i think a bigger border would look a little better on it. Still gotta throw in the clears to see how they look but i dont want to look ***** having a "foglight" looking thing in my housings that flash when you turn alot of kids out here rig up their fog lights to act as turnsignals and i think thats really gay.
Just think you may not like it now but i bet the first time anyone saw a chopped 50 merc they thought it was ugly and those are hot rodding icon now. lol
As iroc2nv says a thirdgen thats different, what a concept.
