hok candy red....is it expensive? depends on how you want to look at it in the grand scheme of things. most importantly you need a shop that knows how to work with it. not every color they make is expensive but it definately isn't cheap.

hey Kandied I was wondering if hok made a metallic candy red....my car is already a maroonish color so I want to keep it somewhat red....just wonderin if you could help me with that question though...also I heard that with kandy colors, you need to use a special clearcoat as well???
the top color is a dye.....mine is a candy red dye basically. normal clear on to it. candy typically is a tri-stage paintjob just like metallic but it's different in how you layer it and if you do something wrong in either of the stages you have to start over. the product isn't so much as to whats expensive but the labor process.
as far as colors. there is no metallic candy color. there's metallics, pearls and candys. you can use metallics as a base if you wish but the more metallic you use the less glow you get...same with a pearl and viseversa. i painted mine the color it was initially because my car was a stock dark metallic red for 91 and i didn't want to go extreme on the paint. later ended up pulling the motor and other various things to make it extreme but it's still the same basic shade. my new candy color will use a neon metallic gold so that it will still glow...just have to figure out how to throw in the chrome red and blue pearl. once that's figured out i'm going to repaint hopefully by november.
you can see the pics all on my cardomain page...

So you decided to go one solid color again Kandied? I remember when you were asking about some two tone ideas....... IMO you made the right choice if this is the case
yeah, couldn't figure out a good 2 tone setup without changing colors and i like using candy red too much. i'm using a one color but it won't be solid, lot of ghost and different shades but from 10' will look like a solid candy color.
