Actually, last summer I saw something really cool, and its similar to what you are wanting to do.
It was on a '77 Trans Am that had a shaker hood originally. What the guy did was buy a regular flat hood (non-shaker) and a scoop. It wasn't the same scoop you like, it was the kind with the 3 red butterfly valves up front. Anyway, he painted the main body of it red to match the car, and cut the hood so that it would fit through tightly. It was cut out in the shape of the scoop so the lines matched.
BUT, the scoop was turned backwards, and only 1/2 way through the hood. This way it looked pretty close to the stock shaker, but from inside the car, you could see the 3 butterfly blades move.
IT WAS SO COOL!!!

It is effective in that it gets direct cold air into your intake. I love the look of the streetscoop style with the butterfly valves. You gotta have the right setup though. If your not running at least 12's its just poser material. Not that the scoop will do much to get you there, I just associate those scoops with blowers and real fast cars.
I saw this 78 Vette at the track big hole in hood with one of these scoops sticking out, I was thinking damn can't wait to see that run, then it proceeded to turn a high 14
