This just SUCKS!!

Was out last night at a friends house havin a little party. No booze cause were under age. So were are on our back from a soda run I'm not use to the road going a little faster than what I should have and probably would have been fine if it wasn't for the freakin deer that decided hay lets give this dude a heartattack and jump in front of him. I missed the deer thank *** but I got into some gravel and lost control and ended up in the ditch. I tried my best to save it which I did for the most part. The passenger side rear quarter panel is smashed pretty good. I can't get the spare out. That part of the rear bumper is ripped. The passenger rear tire wobbles. There is a big but shallow dent above and forward of the rear tire from it hitting so hard. The passenger door scrapes and the bottom. Bothe front fenders are bent in at the bottom from entering and leaving the ditch and the front ground effects is cracked in one spot and missing paint. The spacing around the hatch is a little off from how it previously was and my cargo shade won't work. I'll try to get pictures up later after work. Pisses me off I just got the enginr running right and my electric fan working. I was going to do the entire exauhst next. Just seems like once one thing is fixed something else just gets totally f*cked! Sorry for the length just had to vent a little.

Easy to say, but I've been told several times that it's better to just hit the animal than to lose control of the car. Luckily I have never been in that situation. Sorry to hear about it mang.

I woulda plowed the deer.

Well I would have hit the brakes to slow down, just so he didnt bounce onto my hood and dent it.

The valance is alot easier to fix that all that you described

Sorry to hear bout it, hope you can fix it up quick!

Your better off in the ditch than hitting the deer trust me, the car is a cage around you for hitting stationary objects like trees. It is the things that aren't planted to the ground that can kill you.

Not my car but someone I know...I hit a deer in almost the same spot as he did, our front end damage was the same. The diffrence was that I was sliding sideways and the dear went over the hood and hit the side of the car.

Ive gotten my bird sideways avoiding several deer in the road, and stoped with the deer staring at me through my driver window, his breath was foging my window close. I never understand why they freeze like they do with lights coming at them. But when I was a teenager I put a escort in the ditch when someone pulled out infront of me but luckly all I broke was a hubcap, closest thing to a wreck as ive ever had, knock on wood.

Sorry to hear about this.

I had to double-check the date to be sure you weren't the guy I got my current parts car from, the damage and its cause are identical:
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=243747

Anyway, if you are thinking about fixing it, get it to a frame shop before you do anything else. As much as I hate to say it, it's fairly likely that the unibody is bent, in which case a repair may not be feasible.

Best of luck.

just for future reference on the whole hitting a deer issue.....you're supposed to slam on the breaks - but then let off them right before you hit the deer so your front end motions upward, thus only hitting the deer with your bumper.....Im from MN and Ive hit 2 deer (not in my car though) and it's just somehting that I know works......anyways sorry about the damage man, a terrible thing to go through

Yeah deer crossings suck, I don't think theres to many states that don't have to worry about it. Anywhere with woods and wild life will have deer. Those who live in deer infested areas, you ever try those deer whistles? Do they work?

It could be worse. An aquaintance just picked up his brand new Kawasaki ZX10R, riding in the mountains to break it in. Still paper plates and everything, 2 weeks old.

...you guessed it, a deer bolted in front of him and Whammo!

Broken clavicle, broken wrist, broken foot and opposite broken ankle, and totally destroyed the bike and killed the deer. Deer tidbits everywhere, we couldn't even figure out how badly hurt he was.

I am also very curious if deer whistles work?

For the record, you are better off hitting the deer. I'm sure that in many cases, you could avoid the deer and have no damage, but all things being equal, hitting the deer is the best bet.

heres one more vote for just hitting the deer, the reason is if you swerve to avoid it you may hit something worse (like another car) or go into a ditch like you did (and who know how deep the ditch is or how bad it will hurt your car). when I drove a big truck (semi) the company said "hit the deer" now granted thats alot bigger but the concept is the same. sorry to hear about that though.

imho I think all deer should die. I had a 82 Cadillac Eldorado for my first car, it was all stock, 2 weeks after totally repainting it I hit a deer at 60 mph, bent the bumper buckeled the hood and fender, busted the headlight housing, and the plastic fender nose. I know its harsh but thats just how I feel.

Just a thought... since they freeze up when they 'get stuck' in your headlights, wouldn't it be wise to turn them off?

I have no experience with deer though, so I don't know really.

I have lotsa experience with grasshoppers though
Those basterds never come off the glass when they pop!

There is no time to turn off the lights. I would rather hit the stupid thing just for the simple fact of my insurance will cover that. If I dodge it an d destroy the car I am screwed.

out where my girlfriend lives theres a ton of deer. I've had to stop in the middle of the road to let 30-40 deer pass before. I've had a few close calls, but I've been pretty lucky.

Nothings ever 100%, but from those two posts it would seem like cheap insurance to me if you live in a wooded area. They are pretty small and you could mount two, one under each side of your front ground effects. You couldn't see them unless you got down on your hands and knees and looked.

we don't have deer here(its almost a desert climate), but i've almost hit a cow. i live in a town thats surrounded by cotton fields and lots of farms and going down a small highway at night next to a big field with lots of cows. well one of them got out and the damn thing was crossing the road. i saw it in my headlights and slowed down, fortunetly it had the common sense to keep walking. i've seen people total there cars with those, almost like hitting a tree.

Flashing your lights doesn't work to scare them off the road.
Honking your horn does. They respond to noise with a quickness.
I once had tree jump in the road on me, but all animals have been scared with the horn.

Yeah the soda run is pretty funny, but we didn't have anything to drink because someone forgot it in the first place. I'll post more pictures later I've been takin off the caliper and rotor off, in between playing Driv3r and helping a friend at his quad track, to find out why the wheel wobbles. The axl shaft is bent a bit where the lugs come through. So I'll be getting that tomorow.

I dnt remember who, but someone told me they had deer whistles on their car and hit something like 3 deer. I Know the animals suck, tho- I hit a raccoon 2nite. Thank *** I had my parents' Suburban, tho, otherwise Ida prolly swerved and hit the ditch, too. I knew the 'burb would just smash him into a pancake tho so I slammed on the brakes and didn't even feel a bump.

I friend of mine hit a COW at 60 mph about a month ago. It put a nice big dent it the fender of his truck and the cow was ok.

I once had to swerve to keep from hitting a cow that was asleep/dead in the middle of the road. I mean, this was one freakin huge cow.

BTW, both of these where at night.
