hood louvers care question
i have a iroc hood on my 25th and the louvers on the hood are looking very very dull and grey, same with my grill, whereas i think they were once supposed to be a black color, i have used some back-to-black product on it, i think mothers, it worked ok for a few days but it faded fast, i was wondering if there is any product other than these back-to-black things to protect them from UVs?
my new idea was to paint them black, has anyone ever painted them?, or know if that would work out well?, theres a iroc-z that drives around my city that has its louvers painted white, to match the car, i dotn really like the body color louvers, except on a black car, but it is the same principle, they painted them and the paint looks ok, just i dont know, takes away from the hood the way they did it,
how do the iroc people around here keep thier louvers looking good?

THe louvers on my car look like they were painted black and clearcoated. It looks really sharp and hasn't faded in the 3 years I've owned the car.
Just don't use cheap *** paint and it should be ok. Take them off and have a bodyshop do it.

I didn't want them them as shiny as the paint but I did want them to look clean and new. I decided to try out using some of my Mothers plastic polish. They look great now. It buffed out all the scratches and made them look almost brand new. I'll post up some pics of them on the car.

When my dad and I painted our '89 IROC (which is currently for sale
), we painted the louvers black and sprayed clear coat over the top of them. They're as shiny as humanly possible. Turned out great, and I would recommend this method over anything else.

I've used Meguiar's Step II (polish) and Step III (carnuba wax). Looks great.

Re: hood louvers care question
I knew there was something about FedEx services that scared me....maybe in some way I felt what you felt....UPS all the way!
P.S. I buffed mine then flat blacked them....sets off shiny paint VERY WELL.
P.S.S. Try Ultra-Black for even a darker side of black. I use it at work and you can tell a nice diff in flat and ultra flat.
