16/17 yr old thirdgen drivers?

i mean the owners are 16-17...not the car .post what ya got/ had when you were or are 16 or 17, and tell about it.

i'm just turned 17 last month...i joined the website when i was 13..and i loved thirdgens. i had a summer job and saved all the cash that i could, so when i was old enough to drive...i would have one. after reading through local classifieds for 3 years i finally found one for me..my 91 GTA. had to get a loan from my parents thats still being paid off...got the car when i was 14 and had it parked in the garage for a couple of years. but i kept looking for another thirdgen anyway cause i wanted one i could work on too(the GTA was/is near mint, and needed no work). so just a couple of months ago i bought my second thirdgen...the 85 camaro..i paid $700 canadian for it(great deal), and have been workin on it ever since...its almost done now. i bought the my third thirdgen just a month ago for $100 canadian(amazing deal) to use for parts for my camaro and sell off parts i didn't need...so that car is scrapped and theres not much left of it now.

and then today a guy at work told me about a thirdgen he has and is selling. its an 87 camaro with a 2.8 5spd, but looks like an iroc(minus the wheels...Z28 wheels).

so when i get rid of the firebird, and sell the camaro when its done, i think i am gonna buy the 87 camaro for a winter car.( i mainly want it cause its a stick.

here are some pics..

group shot

the GTA..305 tpi auto. (no need for before/after, cause i never changed much on the exterior, though i am saving up for a motor swap..406 minram)(i'm keeping this car forever)

mega shifter yet to be installed...

My car had been in the family since 86. We bought new but used (it only had one other owner who bought in 83 and then traded it in after 6 months).

I got 4 months after I turned 16 because my POS accord died.

It looks like you need to change your nickname though

I'm 18 now (Still have the maturity of a 6 year old though, so it evens out ) but I've had my '83 Z28 since I was 16. It had a good body, but the 305 burned oil, coolant, and gas occasionally as well. Since then, I've got a 350 in it, and some other stuff too, like new ignition parts mostly...

On the way is a Holley 750 double pumper, Edelbrock manifold, headers, and a '82 Borg Warner 4 speed.

3.73 gears and no OD gear will be interesting, lol

my GTA got 3.73's and when i just drive that in D, not OD, its nuts. i only do it while drivin slow through lots or something to make it be rev up louder...jezus, i have no choice but to shift to OD or i'd blow the motor on the highway and get maybe 5mpg while i'm at it!

BTW guys: WHERE ARE THE PICS!!!!!??????

i am 17 and my camaro is the third car i've owned. i had a 72 lincoln continental before i had my liscence, never got it on the road, was workin on it in shop when i realized the frame was bad, junked the car and now i have the motor in my garage. i then drove my sisters hand me down saturn for a while, did a little to it, had a system and whatnot. then i sold that in search of an f-body. (purchased when i was still 16). motor blew, 17th bday past by while rebuilding it, put it in, tranny blew, which gets us to the current state, with the tranny somewhere else, soon to be shipped to me. being 17 and having a car that craves constant attention kinda sucks. it almost seems not worth it, but i'm sure when i get it back on the road it will be. cause im 17 i cant have a very good job, so i cant pay for my parts really quick (seriously, my tranny is 1 and a half of my weekly paychecks) and still owing my rents a grand from the motor build and insurance payments and cell phone bill and other stuff. its kinda overwhelming. luckily gas prices have dropped slightly.....but hey, i love my car, and so far, nothing has stopped me from owning it, and alot has been thrown at me. i give a huge hell yeah to all the other young kids with f-bodys out there. we deserve it.

some pics of my car and the buildup

^new motor parts, yum

^new motor in the car, right after i got it in. first motor swap/build, kinda a proud moment for me.

^garage floor of the build. it accually got alot worse and then a little better, but i havnt cleaned it in awhile. gotta get on that, dads startin to get pissed.

Im 16 and my first car was a black 1985 sport coupe camaro,T-tops, No power anything, no ac, and the weezer 2.8. It was a pretty bitchin first ride, paid $400 for it and the body and interior were almost mint. Sold it to get my 91 short box chevy.

I now own a red hardtop 86 firebird with the grocery getter 2.8 that I am driving for the summer while I put the vortec 350 in the pickup, and am fixing up an "almost" mint 85 Trans Am that is black with the gold ground effects. Paid $350 for it because the previous owner put a 350 in instead of the 305, it wouldn't run, so he took the engine and tranny out and parked the car, then I bought it.

By the way, I work 3 jobs, and I pay my own gas, buy my own cars, pay for my own parts, and I pay my own insurance. Where I live I am maybe the only 16-18 year old that can say that!

cool keep em coming!

i had a couple of other cars too before i was old enought to drive. i had an 87 accord hatchback( $75 candian!), 5spd, ihad a 93 cavalier wagon(freebie) that i had riced to death(for a laugh)..i had 2 93 dodge colts($200 and $300) one was a parts car for the other..i still have one of them that i use a s awinter car and i hate it and i have had it for sale since febuary!...i sold each of these cars for profit ..you see, i worked my way up, plus i was very lucky to have a job since i was 13..i now have a different job geting 50 hours a week, and $2.55 more than minimum wage(very good find, but very hard work).

i don't like how some other people at my school just get brand new cars bought for them when they get their license! or others just drive their parents cars or whatever.

there are only about 3-4 out of the 800 of us that actually bought our own cars.

and my parents are ALWAYS bitchin to me to get rid of some of my "junk" cars! i am trying to..my colt is for sale, the firebird is almost gone to pieces, the camaro will be sold when i finish it...then i'll only have the GTA.

I got my car when I was 17. Then turned 18 without it. :-( The small auto dealer I bought the car from did soem work on it for me because it was a Piece of S**t when I bought it forgot to add anitfreeze to the water. Yeah, bye bye headgasket as temps went off the gauge! So my baby went down from Early January to late June. Now I have it back and am loving it. Just have to get the damn carb rebuilt and tuned and it'll be back to it's old self. Actually, I take that back, it'll be 10 times better because I'm gonna take much better care of it. Guy before us had different brand sparkplugs in the car. Never did any tuneups or anything to the car. The heads were completely black when we took them off. So abused!!!!! But now it's mine and it's gonna be well fed and loved, exactly what it deserves after such a hard life.

first thirdgen i had was an 87 IROC-Z red, t tops, lb9, automatic, black interior. the engine was no good and it needed some body work. i traded my 1992 KX125 for it, which now i realize wasnt so smart. before i got into putting together the 87, i found my 89 and figured i was better off buying a car that needed no work, i paid 1800 for the 89, then a few months later i sold the 87 back to the kid i got it from. i did take the 16 inch wheels off the 87 and put em on my 89, the 15s on the 89 werent cutting it.

no pics of the 87

but heres the 89 when i got it:

16" wheels, sportline springs and a coat of wax:

then a stupid bish hit me:

which basically started a complete restoration...
the rest of my pics are on my cardomain page

bought my 87 bird when i was 16 for $400 (really good steal, ran great and no serious rust) stock 2.8 5-speed but got rid of that in 2 weeks of owning it. now she sit with no engine or tranny. got a 350 from my uncle and is sitting in his garage where im stripping it down for rebuild to a 383 and a t-56 tranny. rite now im tearing out the interior for some nice 4th gen leather. she and the progress can be seen here: http://members.cardomain.com/87deathbird
she aint much to look at now but shes getting there.

next thing im doing to the 85 sport coupe is a nice paint job.

i'm 18 now, had my car for about 8 months now. like some of you this was not even close to my first car, more like my 6th. i started out with 85' RX7 drove that for 6 months and sold it cuz brakes needed reworking and didn't have no money. then i bought an 85' s-10 blazer-6 months on that and it threw a rod. then i got a 92 subaru legacy-had for almost a year and then i flipped it end over end. then i got a 90' Cutlass supreme-had for about 4 months and hated it so i sold it. then i bought a 88 F-150 and had that for about 9 months. i really wanted a f-body by now so i had looked forever for a good one, then one day my ex gf(we were together at the time) said she saw a really nice camaro at the hospital for sale, so i called about it, went to look at it, and had to have it. my parents agreed to loan me the extra money for it and i had it the next day, sold my truck a week later, then the next week i had to get the tranny rebuilt. i would post pics of it, but right now its getting painted so i'll post pics then. and i pay all of my bills too, gas, insurance-full coverage, even my own damn food and clothes.

I'm 18 now but got my firebird when i was 15 and got it pretty cool before i got my liscense sold that in november after playing with it for 2.5 years and got the rs. I pay for everything on my cars i dont even so much as get loans from my parents if i want something i have to have the cash and if soemthing big breaks and i dont have the cash the cars sit until i do.
Not to many youngens liek us have modded cars so its cool to see other guys in the same spot as myself. Except i'm now working 90 hours a week between two jobs becasue i want my paitn so bad.

Crappy pic hopefully this afternoon i can get better ones

1 thing i dont like about being 16 and having a camaro is that i wish i was around when they sold these right out of the factory cause i kno i would have taken much better care of it then it looks like the drunk drive did.. running up on curbs.. hitting stop signs.. wtf

the car was orgionally a v6 5spd, but swapped to a 305 auto...pedal is left hanging there incase i manage to find a t5 for the 305..

also you'll notice in the "before" interior pic that it has a camaro 5 spd console, and in the after interior pic it has been swapped to the auto console from my firebird.

also in the first pic you may notice that in order to shift the auto, i had to use the vice grips which were clamped on the the shifter cable coming up through the ash tray.

if canadia is anything like america, then go to traffic school. will cost about the same as your ticket maybe a little higher but no points on your license and no insurance change.

I'm 16 now but I got my car over a year ago when I wsa 15. I payed cash for it but I had to borrow $250 from my parents. It's a 1983 25th Anniversary Daytona 500 Pace Car Trans Am and had 42,000 miles. He wanted 7 g's but I only had 6 so I talked him down to $6250. I also had to borrow for the plate, insurance n stuff but I had it paid back in a cppl weeks. I pay for all my gas, insurance and any work I have done to it. All my friends say how "lucky" I am to have such an awesome car... I say they're the ones who are lucky- their parents mostly bought them their cars and most the the cars their parents bought them are d*mn nice... not as nice as mine but nice. I've worked for my parents at their party store since I was about 12. Then last year I started up a small detailing business out of my house. This year I got another job working at a golf course so I'll have some extra cash in the summers when I'm puttin' gas in my car. I'll be posting pics in a few weeks. I've been holding off because I just ordered some boyd coddinton wheels for my car and want to "debut" it with those.

My cars a 1988 IROC with a L98 and 700r4 trans.I just turned 15 a couple months ago. This was my brothers first car...until he got his '01 mustang bullit(yeah, hes a trader)
. His name on here was reilly8282 or somethin close to that...So when he found the mustang, he didn't have enough time to sell the car so he was going to trade it in but all they were going to give him was 2,000. My parents give us $2500 for a first car, so when i heard my bro was just getting $2,000 for it I wanted it so we bought it from him for $2,000 I have had my job for about a year now without anywhere to spend the money, so I have some cash saved up. My brother had the car painted black and a replacement jasper 350 put in with a mild cam. The engines got around 13,000 miles on it now and a fresh paint job and we only paid $2000 so I got lucky...One day he was driving home and made a legal u turn and some lady hit the car after the new paint job, he went to pull over and get her insurance, but she kept going and he didn't have the gas to chase her to get her license number . So I have a nice dent on the passenger door, and about 2 weeks ago the transmission went with 178,000 miles on the dial. . So some of my money is going to a good rebuild, and the rest will go to some interior things and possibly new wheels and tires..I luckily don't have to pay insurance on it, but anything I do to it comes out of my pocket(and it should) so i'm glad i got that job! Heres a picture after the paintjob, but before the "accident"...

I'm 17 and just bought my 88 Iroc about 1 1/2 months ago. Got it for $2900 and it has about 105k miles. Previous owner (88 Iroc Bob) ran 13.79@102 with ET streets. I ran a best of 14.315@96.42 on General 245/50/16. Had to walk it out of the hole since it would just spin if I floored it or tryed to launch...I still mangaged to get a 2.16 60' tho. This was also the first time I had ever been to the track and I was pleased. Can't wait to mount the Nitto DRs on next time I go...should be interesting.

I bought my 85 firebird S/e with the 2.8L auto (not running, torn interior) when i was 15 for $400. I sold it when i was 17 for $800 after i put in a new interior and she was running like a champ. I bought my 84 Camaro z28 5.0L 5 speed for $700 (not running, interior was crap, no paint) I got the LG4 running then swapped it for the L69 after i got her painted.

I was given my Firebird just before I turned 15 years old. Then I started tearing it apart. I've done everything on the car by myself with some assistance from my dad. I'm now 17 and its still apart! I hope to finish it by the end of my senior year (this year). I also have a 91' Lumina, 95' S-10, and 2 motorcycles. I guess you could say I'm an obsessive motorhead.

My first car I got in 2000, when I was 16. It was a 1994 Trans Am, drove it for a year and sold it to buy my '91 Z28 convertible (I REALLY wanted a convertible.) Didn't do much to the trans am (exhaust, chip, system, etc.) It bored me because it was in mint condition in and out. There was nothin for me to work on. Plus, the LT1 bein pushed half way under the damn dashboard kinda sucks. Anyway, sold it for my camaro, and never looked back.

I turned 17 last month and i got my 91 RS last new years. I sold my truck that i had in order to buy my car ... a few weks after I got my car the motor blew due to an intake gasket failure on the 355 that was in the car when i got it. Now i built a 350 with alluminum heads, headers, performer RPM intake, no emmisions and a 80 series flowmaster. I just got the car running again yesterday because of a cracked head wich is why i had to drain my savings account to afford the new heads But now i got it back so i plan on enjoying it after it being down for 6 months...Its nice to see other thirdgen owners my age who take so much pride in their cars and thats how it should be!
