Body shop woes...
Ugh, it's on week 4 of my car being in the shop, when I was told it would only take 2 at the most....I go into the shop today to check on the progress (I was told that some of the parts would be painted by now) and when I go in I see that my car hasnt been touched in 2 weeks!!! It looks the exact same as it did when I went and looked at it 2 fridays ago....Im so pissed. Granted Im doing a big detail overhaul (bodywork, paint) and there was some work to do.....Im just mad that they gave me a finish date, and are now overshooting it by a month (he "says" it will be done by the end of next week...6 weeks total). Plus it ended up costing and extra 1000 from what we agreed on (more rust repair was needed when more was found).....either way Im calling some major
on this. Anyone else have trouble like this??? BTW here's a link to the few pics I took the other week...

i'd rip em a new ahole. thats why you always get it in writing what its gonna cost. not a qoute. all in all i'd try to get some cash back
If its your daily driver and you have the $$$$ to have other people do all the work you're gonna pay for it. Thats the reason those shops are in business..to make money.
I do all my prep work in my garage by myself. I do some finger walking in the yellow pages and find a shop that sells Du pont paint and buy how ever much primer/paint/clear/flex or anything else i need. (mostly so i know im saving as much money as possible) THEN i take it to someone to primer for me, I take it back home and do all the wet sanding on the primer. I then take it back to the shop and have them paint it. I take it home again and cut about 1 to 1.5 coats of clear off so no orange peel. I have saved myself thousands of dollars doing this and have become pretty confident with body work
Advice is free and if you screw it up, it still costs you less money because you've done 90% of the work.

trust me man..i know EXACTLY how you feel. My baby got hit on the 24th of july.....and its still in the shop. I saw her today...its pretty much all done...just got to do a lil more buffing on her......but then the big thing hits...the bill. $3100.00. Im working double overtime all week so i can go get her at the end of the week. Trust me i was ripped. He had to replace the entire front frame clip, plus both front frame ends. So now everything from the doors is repainted, hood, both fenders, and front bumper cover. Got new moldings (AGAIN), new perimeter striping and new silver paint also. I'll gladly show everyone once its all done. But dude, trust me....i feel your pain.

Well since i work in a body shop i can understand.About the 1000. The guy thats fixing it has to make money. Its not there fault there was rust they could not see.Just be happy that they told u about it and are going to fix it.Insted of just putting some glaze on it and painting it.And in a year it rust out more.About how much time its taking nothing u can do about that.If they are taking there time on it and makeing sure its right i would let them take all the time they need. Now if its because they are putting other jobs infront of yours well thats not right. But INS work makes bodyguys and painters more money than doing a hole car so i can understand y they do it. The people working on your car are trying to make a check.I would make sure when u get it back that everything looks real good for how long it took them. Before i start going off on them about the time. If they do a good job and looks real good than whats 1 or 2 weeks more?Better than them hacking your car up to try to get it to u when they said. BUt just my 2 cents.

i'm also a painter and i can understand taking time to do a good job, but not doing anything noticible on his car for 2 weeks? i could understand a few days, but 2 weeks is bs. now if they do a real good job thats great, but its gotta be somewhere around the given timeframe

the same thing happened to me when my car got hit. they were takin forever to find a used hood cuz a gm one is like 800 bucks. i told them to put a ss hood on it cuz there was a special on it for 400 bucks. but they said they dont put that kinda stuff on. i was wtf, its my car not yours. but i didnt put up to much of a fuss cuz i wanted my car back. it took them a month to get it done.

I agree with u kretos.. They are most likely putting other jobs infront of his.Thats not right.Your it could be that the shop was to busy and wanted the job so they gave him a short time frame. Now they started on it so they will finsh it. I have worked in 2 shops that did that stuff. I hated it allways had to rush on the cars at the end of the job.

just to elaborate a little more (thx for the replies btw) he told me that he also works in a partnership with an insurance company...so whenever they bring him cars that need quick fixes....or fixing in general he said it's his job to get them done and out ASAP.....yes I can understand that to a point...its his job. But does anyone else feel that because I am a high-er paying customer, and I've been waiting twice as long...that maybe eventually he'd tell the insurance company "look I gotta finish this one car, and then Ill be all over the ones you bring into me".....it seems like my car is just getting pushed into the corner and getting worked on 'when he has time'.....ugh

the way i see it. its first come first serve. if yours was there first and he gets some work from his insurance partner, then thats even more incentive to get im to move his butt and get yours done.

*Sigh*........did I say 6 weeks total?.......I meant 8, the wait continues.......
All I can say is that I better be happy with it when it's done, it's getting close to storage season and I want to be able to drive it for at least a week

Guys, my car was at the body shop for over 3 months! It's a d@mn good thing I had another vehicle. I experienced something similar with my bike... It was at the body shop for a full six weeks and never got touched. I went and picked it up I was so pissed. The fact of the matter is these guys don't prioritize these jobs based on a 'first come first served' basis. Any number of considerations come into play from returning favors, maintaining return business relationships (insurance relationships), high dollar jobs, any number of other people that they gave optimistic dates to, and you. The chances of you ranking toward the top are slim. I'd pull my car... simple as that.

I know how you feel. Mines been at the body shop for 11 weeks now. You have to put your foot down and tell the guy for every day that it's past the finish day you are going to deduct x amount of dollars. You had a contract with the guy and he should live up to it.
I can't really complain about mine because it's being done for free!
