I did all the bodywork myself, and had maaco paint it. I am happy with the job and it was $329.00 total. This is the second 3rd gen that i have had painted at this shop (we had my brothers old 86 done there a few years ago).

Maaco's are owned individually, but they all use the same products. They use Western and Nason paints, which are extremely cheap. Thats how they get away with such cheap package deals. Their prep work is horrendous too. They don't sand completely nor do they remove the head and tail lamps before painting. If you do the prep work yourself, the paint should hold up okay. But if you leave it to them, you'll be left with disappointment. How do I know this?? I worked for Maaco for a long time, both in a shop and at the regional office doing sales. I know all the inside dirt. A few of you guys may have lucked out, but rest assured, a good paint job from Maaco is rare.

lol I got it at the one on Grant. If you do decide to go there though, take ALL of your stuff out of your car. They took some stuff out of my car and didn't put it back if you know what i mean. Tons of random tools and things were taken and they deny doing it. lol But at least the paint job looks good
Next time if i go there again I'm gonna remove everything i can before bringing it there. They will seriously just paint around everything. I would remove all louvers, your grill and possibly your tailights. And if you pay to have door jams painted. Make sure they do it! lol Also be prepared for some overspray. I had to get some off my tires, front lights and tailpipes. Not bad but still a bitch.

1 day my ***!! lol They had my car in there for like 2-3 weeks. But they had to do bodywork and junk. It was around like 400 for paint. With bodywork and everything I paid 1300. The managers name is Todd. He owns an iroc so you should talk to him. He likes these cars and is funny as hell! He talks like that dude on southpark with the messed up throat. You know the guy who needs that buzzer thing to talk? He sounds like him! lol If you talk with him he can probably set you up with a deal. That's what I did. Are you going to bring your TA there? Also try and get a decent warranty. Like at least a 3 year one. It's not that much more expensive. If you just want the factory color repainted, just have your paint code ready. He was more then happy to match the paint. Good luck with everything, call me up or something when it's done so i can see it! Later dude, Eric

Not thirdgen, but I just got my 93 Jeep back from them on 10/15 and its terrible.
I needed a bumper cover and fender replaced. The Jeep was in good condition (no rust, ect) just the paint was fading. I decided to get there top of line service (base/clear cloat) and was quoted $799. I also asked them to take out some dings plus go over the car and if anything needs to be done, do it and i'll pay extra.
I posted some pics, but im not happy at all. The bill for the paint alone came to about $1,100 and two weeks that they had it. The tape off job looked like it was done by some kid. Not all the dings were taken out. They put a scrath on the side. Some of the paint is all ready starting to come off. They didnt fully clear coat the back (only half of it). Theres too much to list. Im fighting with them about fixing it, but they'll make it even worse.
BTW, it is the one in Reading, P.A.

I would call their Regional Office and complain. It's in King of Prussia, PA (610) 337-6155. Send those pictures to them. You'll get your car repaired for free. That is just horrible! If you are from the PA area, there is a Maaco in Montgomeryville on Route 309. They are the best on the East Coast.
You can also subit your complaint online. http://www.maaco.com
On the left hand side scroll down to customer service.

Thanks for the info iroczgrl88. I talked to the head guy at the Maaco branch where I got it done and they made an appoitment for Nov 8 (3 weeks later) to take it back and get it right. I dont know how there going to do that because the whole car really needs to be redone. They were saying about sanding and using touch up paint...
Im going to give there Regional Office a call sometime this week and let them know whats going on. I doubt they will do anything about it, but its worth a call.
On a side note, they took the face plate off my radio and lost it in the back of the shop. Luckly they found it After a day. The car was filled with large paint chips in the front and back (had windows down when they sanded the hood?). I guss I cant really compain about this because it can happen when painting a car, but the engine was covered in paint chips. I dont know how so much could get there, but im going to have to steem clean the engine when this mess is over. Also whenever I turn the air on, paint chips fly out. Nothing a good vaccume cant fix though.
Again, thanks for the info!

I'm in no way knocking anyone that posted pics of Maaco jobs above, but those viewing them must remember that the camara can sometimes be very forgiving. I have seen people on here many times say that the pictures of their car online look a lot better than the car does in person. Things like cracks, fading, and orange peel may not be seen. Then there's the longevity issue. Most people that have posted have gotten their cars painted in the last year or two. It's kinda funny pecause people with expencive paint jobs say the car looks better in person. I think the resolution of the pictures can tend to make great paint look not as great and good enough paint look a little better. Just something to keep in mind when looking at pics online.

Mine's at Maaco right now. I'm having some major work done though.
I opted for the $800 paint job (base coat/clear coat). . . stripping the car down. . . primer the whole car. . . replace the passenger fender. . . all the lights with new lights . . . jam it out . . . add hood blisters . . . various GFX panels replaced . . . and a color change (Teal
------> Pepper Grey Metallic
)
If it's messed up, I can always take it back. And it has the 4 year warrenty thing, so I'll just take it back and get it fixed if it fades. The cheapest I was able to find from a normal paint shop around here was over $3K, and that's just too much money for something that is going to get a rock chip in under a month.

They told me Tuesday, but I'm sure something won't meet my approval, so we'll see.
If you want to see a pic of what my car looked like before, just do a search in this forum for my name and the thread will come up.

Gotta agree with jeremynyr guys cameras hide alot, take my ride for instance, show paintjob looks liek absolute crap when i take pictures of it and can never get the ghost to pop out. but at times the little pos does take good photos. I had my old bird done at maaco and they did a pretty good job, it had flaws here and there but nothing that stood out real bad, and the only orange peel was on teh roof in a few spots. But for the money it was worth it, my dads camaro was done at teh same maaco and they did a real nice job aside from a decent amount of orange peel and a few dings that didnt get removed. I decided when they did my sisters truck i'd go to them if they did a nice job... and they didnt, the entire truck is orangepeeled, sand marks left, still has dings that were overlooked and on top of that they talked her and my dad into not clearing it. Supposebly some new paitn that will last 5 years without clear, its colorado and a black truck it needed to be clear. Soem guys at maaco can do good work, painting great is all experiance, and when you do the volume of work those shops do they have to be decent with all teh practice. Just be careful what you want and make SURE you SEE in PERSON work they have done. I figured it was jsut worth it to save up and spend teh 3k on a nice job that i am super happy with. camaro hides alot of flaws from teh camera

here's one with bad luck from Maaco. The apparently didn't clean and prep the surface before they sprayed it. The top coat is peeling from the primer on the front and rear bumper covers and on the rockers now and it chips very easily. Also the paint is thin. There were no runs though
