I HAVE A QUESTION

How do you get rear hatch glass off of the hatch lid without breaking the glass?

THE HATCH LID, THE DEALY WITH THE SPOILER ATTACHED TO IT, IS GLUED TO THE GLASS. IF THE HATCH GLASS IS PUT IN A BIND THE GLASS WILL SHATTER. IS THERE A TRICK TO GETTING THE GLUE TO RELEASE FROM THE GLASS?

Have you tried running a length of piano wire or maybe guitar string in between the two to break the bead?

why do you need to remove the glass? there may be an easier approach to what your tryin to do.. id be leary trying to remove the glass myself as it is extremely delicate and will shatter if not properly handled without the metal frame.. you dont wanna remove the frame either as without it the glass is all thats holding the bottom portion of the hatch on...

ok i thought you meant the entire hatch. i think i'd ask a body shop, or let them do it. if you're set on doing it i'd try the wire and a heat gun.

well my car is painted with pearl white paint. if you know anything about paint a person can never match pearl twice. so instead of painting the whole car again i thought that I might just change the glass.

Moving this to the “Appearance Forum”. You may get more help there.

I DID IT! I got it off all on my lonesome. I took a guitar string and ran the length of the glass. It was actually easier than previously imagined. Is it butal tape that you use to put it back on though?

That is good news! I have never personally heard anyone doing that. There have been many people mention that the rear hatch gets misaligned over time and I suspect that the tape is allowing the hatch to slip on the glass a little.

I would contact a big GM dealer that has a body shop and ask them what to use to attach the lid to the glass. I have no idea what I would trust to do that.

You could try construction adhesive avaialable at the hardware store. I used it to re-attach the lip of the spoiler on my convertible trunk lid.
